Complex's 25 Most Anticipated Albums of 2010

I've given it a fair go. I really have.

Still just can't see it.

That said, I quite like Successful.

Succesful's to slow for my liking. It has a good beat and that, but just feels like its going on and on, and taking ages to do so.

Much prefer Best I ever had, oh and Forever (but thats mainly because Em just comes in and blows evryone out of the water) Drakes verse is the worst on the track imo, but still good. (If thats makes sense?)

Only two albums i can say im looking forward to this year are Underoaths new one and Relapse 2.

Don't really get what all the hype around Drake is about.

Sure, the guys has done some nifty features here and there, but that mixtape of his, which is supposed to be the greatest thing since sliced bread is pretty average to me. All the songs sounds exactly the fecking same!

1. He was co-signed by Lil' Wayne... it doesn't really take much to notice and understand Wayne is the biggest moving force in the game, even more than Jay-Z and Eminem, and has touched so many different genres and such that he could arguably be the most recognized and followed active artist in music (Not something to be proud of as a fan of the genre but power to him)

2. He HAD a buzz, a small buzz, but a buzz... Him and Trey songs always used to tour together, and everyone in Canada knew "Wheelchair Jimmy" so he really has not alot of choice but to be something with hip-hop... The thing was, his crossover appeal shattered anyones expectations, and when the mixtape came out (Which in my opinion was top 10 in terms of music released in 2009) everyone went insane.

3. The So Far Gone EP sold more than hundreds of albums... Put it into context: The thing has been out for 6 months, for free, to a whopping 5.6 Million downloads worldwide "Legally", and he can release it with a new song and the vast majority of the songs not on it and STILL sold 200K... In a market where albums and hard versions of discs don't push, he did an exceptional job making coin from the market.

4. The features... From Young Money, to the biggest song of the year (Forever), to Mary J, to Jamie Foxx, remixing a Fabolous song to high credit... to anyone relevant, Drake was REQUESTED to be on these records... Anyone who questions the kids power needs their specs fixed.

Though I can agree that the buzz seems a bit excessive, hip-hop hasn't seen his likes in a long time, not since Mase anyways, and to make it better he has appeal and he can sing... The possibilities are endless.

The album needs to deliver though.

fecking AUTO TUNE!!!!!!!

He doesn't need it though which is what makes it kind of sad.

FWIW, that song went #2 in the US, #1 in many countries, and was nominated for a Grammy award... And it's off a mixtape.

Forever was a Drake song wasn't it? So he can hardly have been requested to be on it?

Not that it matter...

I'm not questioning the fella per say, I'm just saying I don't personally feel him that much...

I mean, he's alright. But most anticipated album of 2010? His mixtape one of the best "albums" of 2009? Nah, not for me mate. Not in a long shot...

All in taste, just an opinion of a big fan.

Forever was "LeBron's" song that Drake and Wayne worked on ages ago as a reference song... It depends on what way you wanna look at it.

As far as Lebron James' involvement, the song was featured in a documentary made about him. Not much more than that.

I'm pretty sure it's "listed" as a Drake song, with features from Ye, Wayne and Em. (You'll also notice that Em references to Drake in his verse...)

But as I said earlier, it doesn't matter. I for one think it's a cracking song!

And yeah, it's all about opinions at the end of the day...

I'm with wancolos on this one. Dont get me wrong, I certainly dont doubt Drakes talent/ability, but he just doesnt do it for me, apart from the odd song. And I'm really not sure why tbh.

feck Drake, he's a less talented JCole
even Joe Clark is better than he is just cos he has Lil Wayne behind him he gets the shine

How do you judge how talented he is? Drake writes great songs, it is conveyed by the artists he has written for whether he is as 'lyrical' as Jcole or not. Best I ever Had went to number 2 and Lil Wayne wasn't even on it. Don't think because he's come down a bit that Drake can't handle himself as a top lyricist. The boy can take artists to school.

Doesn't J Cole have Jiggerman behind him????

The Strokes, Arcade Fire and LCD Soundsystem are the ones I'm the most excited about. Aren't Daft Punk doing the soundtrack for the Tron remake? Looking forward to that one as well!

His mixtape was all but done long before he even met Lil' Wayne...

Ah the old same Anti-Drake arguments... I thought better of you CLK

J.Cole has Jay-Z behind him.

The mixtape was done before Wayne signed him, listen to the lyrics on the god damn mixtape before making such silly accusations.

The "shine" he's gotten has been out of Wayne's spotlight, though the boost surely doesn't hurt, ALL artists get a bump from someone bigger than them to the mainstream, so the argument is stupid.

Both Drake and J.Cole are extremely talented and i'd much rather see them work TOGETHER than compete.

J Cole was big before he had Jay Z behind him and you may not know but Drake has been working with Lil Wayne for a LONG ass time.
I remember hearing a song called 'Man of the year' which had Currensy on it but had a demo with Drake on it.

Best I Ever Had vid was directed by Kanye West thats another element of the exposure he has got from working with YM.

JCole may have Jigga's backing but so does Drake and JCole still moves like an indie artist whereas Drake is fully mainstream.

Drake maybe creative in who has written for but JCole also writes for other artist AND produces for himself as well so beat that! Lol I'm not a massive Drake fan just feel he has been extremely fortunate and there are better artists who have not had the same breaks

But how can you knock Drake for the oppourtunity?... He's taken it fully, everyone wants Drake and he's not even over-saturating himself yet.

Drake and Wayne have been working together for awhile, but he's also been working with Boi1da, working with Trey Songz, working with Phonte, etc... Wayne had the money to service his commercial appeal.

Before Wayne got him, there was a different Drake, after Wayne, there's a better Drake.

Sadly I like neither.

I rate him for taking the chance with both hands. He supposedly stole some tracks off other people too but thats another story
