Guess the line-up for the first League game Vs WBA. The winner wins a date with Celine:

---------Carroll
Brown--Rio--Blanc--Silvestre
Beckham--Keano-Veron--Giggs
---------Ole--Ruud

With Steele, Scholes, Butt, Phil and Eidur on the bench

Can't see this team challenge for any honours ;)

------------------ Barthez -------------------

-- Gary ------- Larry ----- Rio ----- Silvestre

-- Beckham --- Keane ---- Veron ----- Giggs-----

---------- Ole ----------- Ruud ---------------

Bench: Carroll, Scholes, Butt, Sorin, Diego, Phil, Chadwick, Wes, O'Shea

I'd settle for that...

There's a chance he could be back.

Good team, don't you think?

Unproven keeper, 3 "cultured" defenders..soft centre in that defence! and Veron

So a decent CB different from last season....carry on

;)

Dang, that´s my guess right there. Don´t know about the bench though

So an improvement on a team that was challenging for the title until the 37th League game and got to the semi-final of the Champions Leage

Not bad that ;)

Sorin would be the only player we don't already have.

Or an improvement in one position..a worse RB and an unproven keeper for a team that was third best in the league..

Depending on how you look at it.. ;)

Eh, I'm not advocating for Wes to be our first choice right back - that was the team for the game Vs WBA for which I believe Neville won't recover in time for..

And the way you go on about how crap Barthez is, surely you can't think Carroll is any worse.

So, with the purchase of Rio improves the XI. A very good good XI already. Things are looking very promising indeed

no matter what we do davo will always say its wrong or shite, you cant win

I know about OG, I was merely saying I'd settle for that team for your first game..

I've no idea how good or bad Carroll is, hence me saying he's unproven..If Bobo goes I'd be happy if you didn't sign a replacement..

Rio will improve you yes, but I'm not convinced he's the type of CB you need...and you've overpaid for him...in fact, you wanted to pull out of the deal didn't you?

eh?

I think Rio's an excellent defender, and that you've paid too much for cash for him..

I'm far happier that you've spent 30m on him then say on Duff, Ayala and a full back...are you?

So, you reckon that team will struggle beating WBA then?

The fact that you admit he will improve us really should put an end to this discussion ;)

And yes, I wouldn't have been bothered if we had pulled out. But now its done, and we have got a very good defender - no matter how much we've paid for him.

I'm not playing.

Celine is a really nice girl - but I don't want a date with her. :)

No I don't think you'll struggle to beat WB..is that what I said?

You were always going to sign a CB this summer...and it was obvious whoever it was going to be would improve you..hardly unexpected, given these circumstances I'd settle for an overpriced Ferdinand..

Wouldn't have been bothered? You wanted to pull out...how quickly you've changed...

True

But having spent 30m I think its less likely that you will, don't you?

I think £30m is too much to pay

But I think Rio is the best option if you ignoring the money paid

Which would be a strange thing to do...

Hope you cheer up from your disappointment... ;)

I'm gutted over getting one of the best centre halves in the world to my club

I'm also happy couldn't convince the thug to sign for you lot ;)

I'm just repeating what you said...

If you wanted the deal to go through I'd have thought you'd have said that?

What I mean is we´ll hopefully have another striker

I wanted the deal to go through, but for less money.

But as it now has gone through, albeit too much money IMO, I'm looking at the positives, i.e. that we have secured the services of one of the best defenders in the world.

Obviously people like yourself will focus on the fee.

If only we could have spent the money on a host of average players

Bizarre

You've totally changed your mind as to whether you wanted the signing to go ahead in the space of a few hours, and are suggesting that I'm concentrating on the huge fee??

Average players?

Yeah I hate it when we pick up players like Riise and Hyypia for small fees when you can just splash out a fortune on superstars like Veron....I'd wait to see how they turn out before discounting them as average if I were you..

Yeah let's drop Scholes his form is way below Veron's

For every Riise and Hyypia there's a Biscan and Diomede.

I haven't changed my mind on whether I wanted the deal to go through - but I've not got much of a say in it have I?
