Was Macklemore what tipped it over the edge for you? In terms of creditability

The fact Nas has never won a Grammy destroyed it's credibility for me .

Macklemore beating Kendrick is so unfair it's almost funny but someone like Nas never winning is a travesty .

I was not even think about commercial success. I think Invasion of Privacy was simply one of the best Hip Hop albums of the last year.

This is stretching it.

Also this.

Nas, Tupac, Biggie never won one, Busta lost to Will Smith twice
It's a nice accolade to have as part of an artist's career but it doesn't really define much in terms of their talent.
Award shows are pretty much just opinions, and nobody will ever agree with all of them.

Not mad. It's an amazing story. From Sues* to the Grammys??? Insane.

Did she have the best rap album? No, but when have the Grammys ever got it right? So it's all good.

*They are no longer open :(

I saw a tweet that said 3 years ago she finished her last shift as a stripper, and now she's featured in Harpers Bazaar with 3 Grammy nominations.
Her personality is still the same which is what I like most about her - and she's hot as feck lately

The NY scene is full of washed up strippers. Rare are those who can manage to flip their 15 minutes of fame into something substantial. She was on LHHNY for the appropriate amount of time, and hit the jackpot with Bodak Yellow. And every move since then has been spot fecking on. Credit goes to her and her managing team of course for navigating, in months, all the bullshit that others get stuck in.

Who do you all follow for new releases / industry updates?

Switched from Spotify to Apple Music months ago, mainly because my car would automatically play Apple. Used to get alerts from Spotify when new albums were dropped. Since making the move, I’ve felt completely out of the loop.

Any recommendations on who to follow for Hip Hop updates & news would be greatly appreciated.

You can every now and then look at the 'new relseaes' and top charts section in apple music, you can also follow artists on their page. Spotify is better in this respect, the other thing to do is follow social media hip hop accounts for latest info.

Another sad day for Hip Hop. Nipsey Hussle pronounced dead after being shot in front of his store in LA.

Sad news. I met him in LA in early 2015 after he put out 'Mailbox money', and in 2017 in Atlanta. He came across as a really smart and well grounded brother. Sad day for Hip hop indeed!

My heart sank when I heard the news this morning - the last 18 months or so he has been getting the recognition he's deserved for quite some time, and yet he was still so incredibly young.

To have your life taken away from you like that, in the middle of the very community you've been uplifting since day 1 is just heartbreaking.
There's no words.

Not too familiar with him myself. Any reason why someone would want him dead? From what I've read he was a great help for his community and even the street gangs liked him.

Early reports indicate it was a rival gang, but it's too early to speculate really.
Unfortunately being a positive influence within your own community doesn't mean you'll be revered by everyone, and if someone has access to a gun & an opportunity in America - these things often end up going in one direction.

And even if they shoot me down
There'll be another n****a bigga
from the motherf*ckin underground

Possible suspect ID'd and arrested. curious to see what the investigation reveals, and if the talk of a conspiracy theory is put to rest. I don't listen to hiphop these days so I didn't know about him. Several of my coworkers grew up with him and told me about his murder possibly being a set-up for his documentary of the Dr who supposedly cured AIDS or some other disease.

There’s always conspiracy theories but from the looks of it, just looks like retaliation after the suspect was embarrassed by Nipsey a few hours prior.

Who the hell is Lil Nas X and why is literally every new rapper the least imaginative when it comes to names. Surely they know they'll just be drowned out if they just add Lil in front of their name? It's so cliche.

And now this guy calls himself Lil Nas? So bizarre.

Ventura is a bop. It's the album I wanted Oxnard to be.

Also Kevin Abstract's EP is great.

Di Caprio 2 is quite good, I hadn't listened to it as much until now but got prompted by Spotify a couple times this week and the better for it.

Enjoying Crash Talk other than chopstix, which is one of the worst choruses i've heard

Thought it was boring. Then again I've never really liked Q apart from a few songs.

He wasn't a music artist, but his films were/are intertwined with the culture. RIP John Singleton.

This. He was a true icon that contributed to sharing the black experience and hiphop culture in America to the world indeed. He will be missed

Thoughts on Arizona Baby?

Some great tracks on there. Not amazing as an overall album but I love Peach, Baby Boy and Joy Ride, Georgia and Crumble.
