13 goals and 17 assists in 24 games. Those are beautiful numbers. And look like he has the physicality also. If he's available for cheap(-ish), we should go for him. Especially if ETH wants him.

Or are we (again) afraid this would hurt some players feeling?

Yeah impressive numbers and would buy us a bit of time to get the right number 9 in the summer for Erik whoever that is

Yes. We now need someone who can score, no matter his position. And it's good that he also more than just a goalscorer.

A peak Lewa type. Perfect striker in the last decade, imho. But i don't know who is available.

Would you take Kane IF Spurs were willingly to sell around the £70-£85m mark, yes I know his age but despite the ankle trouble he's kept pretty fit

Depend on his wage but I'd say yes for that cost. The striker's market is pretty thin (for good and established striker). If we can get even 3 good years with Kane, that would be worth it.

I don't know if he wants to. Because he's not coming here as captain, and United doesn't guarantee him many trophies also.

Yeah we aren't a guarantee of trophies but think he could flourish in this team and give us that finisher we so badly need

I am not sure if Gakpo can play center forward. On the wing he is a good player, but lacks a bit of speed. On the left Man Utd has already Sancho, Garnacho and also can play Rashford and Martial. Is Gakpo better? I don't think. For Utd is better to buy a real striker.

gakpo is seen as a number 10 (Attacking midfielder) by van Gaal and has a realistic chance of being in the starting squad
I think he could do very well in that position at United as well, but we still have the problem that we have Bruno (and Eriksen) who would arguably favour the number 10 role, so would Gakpo rotate at number 10 for United? Similarly, who would we pick at number 9 out of Martial (injured), Rashford ( better at LW?), Ronaldo (enough said) and Grenwood (enough said). As has been pointed out, using Gakpo as a target man number 9, takes away some of the best attributes of his game.

I am actually in favour of bringing in Gakpo in January and for the rest of the season utilising his versatility as a 9 / 10 / LW / RW, and then bringing in dedicated number 9's, Sesko and Moukoko, in the Summer. I just can't see us bringing in Gakpo now, and then spending another £100m on Osimhen, or £150m on Mbappe, in the Summer, when we have so many other issues to resolve.

If Mbappe is a genuine option, that changes everything, as he is clearly a top 5 in the world, and we would make sure we accommodate him. I can't see why we would bring in Gakpo and Mbappe, who would both want the second striker / LW positions, so if we sign Gakpo, we are not getting Mbappe, and conversely, if we are in for Mbappe, Gakpo will go elsewhere.

Whoscored:

+ Strengths (Very strong)
Crossing
Key passes
Finishing
Taking set-pieces
Dribbling

It will be wasted to play him as striker when his strength is crossing, key passes, and dribbling.

In fairness, I think his listed strengths of crossing and key passes are a direct result of his corner taking ability.

If he is our number 9, but is taking corners, and we have Timber and Martinez as CBs, who will get on the end of his crosses?

For clarity's sake, I think Gakpo is a very long way away from playing as a lone striker as it's a very difficult and demanding role that takes time to grow into.

But in your hypothetical I guess we just continue to be as ineffective at them as we are.

I wouldn't be hugely surprised if we get him in January.

Martial, Rashford, Sancho, Antony, Gakpo, Garnacho, Bruno for the front 4 positions.

Ronaldo, Donny & Elanga to be moved on.

Let's buy another left winger. Seems like a great idea.
Totally agree. If we're buying a striker then Martial is the backup and then Rashford, Sancho, Garnacho and Elanga all play on the left. Irrespective of whether he's any good whats the point buying another right footed wide forward when we actually need a striker?

Top strikers not available in January

The only doubt I have in mind is, Gakpo only play on the left for PSV, and we already have Rashford, Garnacho, Sancho playing at the same position. Sure we can always move Rashford up to CF (not his best position though), but do we want to really buy him and limit the game time for our best young talent Garnancho?

CF: Martial, (Rashford)
LWF: Gakpo, Rashford, Garnancho, Sancho
RWF: Antony, Elanga, (Sancho)

Feel like I'm going crazy but with all the gaps still left the plug, I think it would be madness to spend 30 mn of a limited budget on Gakpo unless we were planning on selling Rashford which seems highly unlikely as he's probably our most in-form attacker this year. There's no solid evidence whatsoever that Gakpo can play the striker role never mind in a top two league. As with people insisting that TImber was coming to United to play right back or defensive midfield, United fans are constantly trying to manifest players being able to play at an equally high level in alien positions. We can see from our own forwards how difficult it is to move from one forward position to another if you are not used to it.

If the manager believes he can make a transition into a CF role in the future it just make sense to get him now before he explodes even more.

Yes might not be his preffered position now and got plenty of fun mostly from the LW but there are not many complete strikers at his age, who would have his skillset. He would still be miles better than Ronaldo and great option even as a developing player there when Martial will drop to the treatment table..

He can also rotate on the left in case Rashford starts to feel sorry for himself again and inevitably lose all the confidence and hunger for another two seasons. Sancho should kick on as well if he ever wants to feature for us as well and can rotat with Anthony, as prior to the brazilian's arrival looked pretty good from the right on an occassion..

It is still worth a some sort of inbalance in the team rather than going into the season with what we have, as options up front..

30 mln will not be enough to get Gakpo.

This makes our option look way better than it really is when in reality only Martial looks comfortable playing up top and Rashford is useless on the right.

Apart from Anthony and Bruno, everybody else prefers playing on the left. So you’ve basically 3 players and a potential 4th who prefers playing on the left and no real backup for the right and up top.

could Garnacho play on the right? Has he played there at all in the youth teams?

And with Gakpo in we would have four players, and a potential 5th, whonprefer playing on the left. Still no real backup for the right and up top.

Cant wait to see him play for Oranje as a number 10/shadow striker.

Garnacho has killed this deal for me but I honestly think he’s (Gakpo) a really special player more than capable of being a Man United player and will show it this tournament.

Agreed. More than 7 is overkill.

Left Wing

Rashford
Garnacho
Sancho

Striker

Martial
New Signing (Gakpo, Toney)
Rashford

Right Wing

Antony
Sancho
Bruno

Unfortunately, that means players like Pellistri and Amad, who we heavily invested in, don't get a chance.

I get a feeling we will get Gakpo and Sancho will be moving on during summer window.

Ditto!

Gakpo will be a left winger imo. He’s more creative, more ball progressive, better crosser, and has better vision than Rashford. It makes zero sense to play the creative player as striker but play the less creative one as left winger.

If we sign gakpo in January, I expect to see this:
Gakpo - Rashford/Martial - Antony

Do you not think ten Hag would convert him into a striker? I think his attributes suits the striker role, hence why he plays as a number 10/shadow striker.

I’ve answered this a few times before but yes he absolutely has all the skills to play as a modern forward but as others have said he could be brought in so that Rashford becomes the CF.

He’s a really complete forward player and I’d be delighted if we signed him to be a LW or a ST as I think he’d excel at both with coaching.

I think he has the potential to be a truly top player for whoever he signs for next the fact LVG wants to start him in the World Cup is testament to that.

We’ve not seen him play there yet for the first team but looking at his attributes I certainly have more confidence in him playing there more than any of our other options other than Antony. Garnacho has good close control dribbling, express pace and great with both feet. I don’t see any reason why he can’t be a good option on the right.

Codyyyyyyyy! (Plays rubbish, but in the end; only one thing counts)

So many other teams will be after him after this WC ends.
We should have got him before.
