People are saying the very same things they said when Pool signed Mane. This is a very astute signing for Klopp!

They're both miles better than Gakpoanother highly paid player that is average and a player that has continually said he doesn't want to come here.
great choices there.
I agree and not sure why, surely striker has to be No1 target. I’m even surprised Liverpool went for him given their desperate for midfield additions. Some have gone over the cliff on this already
He will probably do alright at Liverpool as they will play him in his favoured position until the others are fit again and then he will be a squad option.
It's all good. He's decent but not next level.
Van Dijk was asked about the future of Gakpo, with the player being heavily linked with both Manchester United and Real Madrid. When asked about the prospect of his countryman joining either club, Van Dijk gave a brutal response.
“Are Manchester United and Real Madrid on the same level at this moment?” Van Dijk replied, as quoted by The Athletic.
“No disrespect, not at all.
“I think he definitely has a next step in him. I definitely feel like it could happen. Whether it happens in the winter or next year, time will tell.
“But he’s a great boy, works hard, is very talented and there’s definitely more in him.
“We are very pleased he’s doing so well and long may it continue.”
This is exactly what I was thinking. This thread reminds me of the thread when Mane was signed. Eerily similar.People are saying the very same things they said when Pool signed Mane. This is a very astute signing for Klopp!

Blessing in disguise this. Sucks to miss out on a player to a rival but I feel like we’ll get a much better player than Gakpo in the summer.
I think for me you could see Mane suited exactly what Klopp was trying to do. He was dynamic, hard working, could score and assist, was perfectly suited and already adapted to the Premier League, and the most important thing is that he bought into the press from the front, which for me was the basis Klopp built his success from, as all 3 forwards bought into this.
I just don't think Gakpo is that type of player, certainly in the games I've seen him for PSV against British opposition in Europe (x2 vs Leicester, x2 vs Rangers and x2 vs Arsenal). So while I think he does have some very good qualities, (his ball striking being 1 of them), I must admit I'm quite happy to see Klopp having to deviate from that elite pressing machine that made them so horrible to play against.
When have we ever gotten what we need.Summary of this thread:
Before Liverpool signing…he’s not good enough. Extremely overrated. Could never raise to the level of the Prem. He’s soft…
After Liverpool signing…we lost out again. Terrible recruitment. We will never get quality players. He’ll score 20+ in the Prem. Exactly the type of player we needed…
A club like ours should buy in January to secure CL and add a top No9 in the summer. People acting like we didn't want him? Of course ETH wanted him, it was widely reported we had a deal agreed in the summer, but had to pull out because we overpaid for Antony.

First, you can thank Ronaldo for leaving us stranded like the petulant cnut he is.
Second, Martial is always picking up untimely injuries and doesn't always show consistency when fit.
Third, Sancho is quickly approaching the "lost cause" territory with the recent exile. What are the odds that he comes back even stronger if ever?
Fourth, there is a severe shortage of quality among strikers worldwide. The very few good ones available will be overpriced as a result.
How do you want us to get out of trouble with our striker woes? I personally preferred Gakpo because paying the rumored amount for him would have been better business than overpaying a striker in the current context (lack of quality, overpricing due to high demand).
So why did you want him then?I wanted us to get him but it’s actually nice to see the club not continuing down the path of buying players in positions we already have strength in whilst the rest of the team sinks.
Striker or nothing this window. If the club sale goes through before the summer window we will be ready to reload.
This guy talks sense.Thank God we got Liverpool to fall for signing this guy! Never rated him, needs way too much time on the ball. Depay would be a much better option.

To be fair, half the thread wasn’t massively convinced on him — we all want another attacker, we’d just prefer it to be an actual no.9 than yet another right footed left sided wide attackerLooks like this has become a fox can't get the grapes thread. Let's hope he really is shit. Would hate for him to actually be world class and playing for Liverpool.
