He's no more than a puppet in this game. To buy Utd outright without loans you'd have to be worth easy 25/30bn as nobody is sinking 100% or even 50% of their net worth into buying a football club.

Sheikh Jassim isn't even worth more than Sir Jim on his own. He's not crunching anything. This bid is from much higher up in Qatar. He's been chosen as the front man as he was educated in the UK and claims to be a big Utd fan.

If that was the only one offering me millions, and I had no other way to make millions, yes.

But if Ineos was offering me 90m, I'd prefer that.

There should be a caveat about what I'd be doing. I don't think I'd take 100m to be in charge of imprisoning LGBTQ+ people, or being in charge of shitting on migrant workers. I probably wouldn't take it to actively cover up and lie about those either. Similar with Ineos. I wouldn't take 90m to be in charge of illegally dumping chemicals and poisoning water or covering that up. Maybe that's moral relativism on my part, so be it.

If it wasn't his money -- why wouldn't he just put the bid in for an extra billion and close the deal since a billion to the state of Qatar is peanuts?

And no Arab state wants to look desperate or small time by dragging out this process for a measly billion. (Qatar did spend over 220 billion bucks for a temporary event after all!)

Then what's the point of sportswashing project when you slow walk this; making you look cheap or even poor for a rich country like Qatar?

Even if it’s off by a few billion, he still wouldn’t have enough to buy United outright, promise a new stadium, massive annual transfer budgets and beyond.

As was mentioned elsewhere by MTF, having managed the sovereign wealth fund wouldn’t yield the manager many billions without massive corruption, which of course the Qataris are well familiar with given out they bribed their into getting the World Cup.

Yes, possibly.

It may well be that the Qataris are still fully engaged in the process and will make a substantial bid over the weekend, but are trying to make the Glazers sweat in the interim.

Alternatively, I imagine that if they truly believe that the Glazers have no intention of selling (short of receiving an insane offer that nobody in their right minds would make), then I suspect they would rather save face by walking away on their own terms, than allow there to be any public perception that they have been "rejected" or, even worse, "beaten" by another bidder (including a minority investor).

There are so many unknowns -- untill we know who the contributors to his foundation are, it's all speculative.

He's a very rich man but he isn't worth the money it would take to buy Utd in cash without loans. You are aware of this right?

I have said before I think he has a different business model and that's why he can afford a bigger bid. It's part generational -- a 70y.os world view of how a business runs, a conglomerate structure versus a more digital age ecosystem model.
He will have a consortium of partners and play to the strength of his rolodax of partners -- from media to property development, sports etc

If jassim doesn't do this and wants to go with just a basic multi-club model then he's dumb. Then SJR has the natural advantage.

I think you're getting confused mate.
I'm saying Qatar ARE behind the bid, not just one Qatari guy who isn't anywhere near wealthy enough to chuck 6bn at the Glazers then another 2-3bn in infrastructure whilst he's at it.

Going off everything we know about him he's incredibly rich compared to you n I but he doesn't have a spare 8-10bn to buy a football club and build a new stadium.

This is undoubtedly a bid by the state / Royals dressed up as something else. Nobody else in that country has that kind of wealth to spend on a vanity project.
