Bullshit rumours on Twitter that Dubai has won the bid already.

I wouldn’t mind Dubai tbh. They’ve been the Middle East area (whatever it is) that has successfully honed their image and shifted their dependence in oil towards tourism successfully. Plus they’d have the funds to allow us to compete at the top.

Is this relating to that Antonio Carter guy? He’s currently reinforcing his ITKness by saying he reported FDJ was not leaving Barcelona at the start of August and that Ajax were asking for €100m for Antony at the start of August.

I’m usually sceptical of the ones who make a big song and dance about them finding out something huge, and then try to back it up with past stuff. Also he has a low tweet count, which makes me believe he deleted a bunch of stuff that didn’t pan out to be true.

Nah another but honestly it’s just random no marks.

Everyone makes mistakes and can get something wrong, but when it’s at this level it’s kind of funny:
After the successful experience in the top flight of the Premier League with Manchester City, coached by Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed al-Nahyan, it could now be the turn of Sheikh Khaled bin Zayed al-Nahyan, also a member of the Abu Dhabi royal family, who intends to take over Derby

If we want to be competitive we need someone who doesn’t care about business.

It won't. The Serie A of the 80s had small/mid sized clubs affording talent like Batistuta, Careca, Hagi, Laudrup, Gazza, Taffarel etc. Yet one thing was missing. Fiorentina wasn't Real Madrid or Manchester United. They might have had the money but they lacked the fan base.

True, it's mental to think that Zico played for Udinese. Zico!
That's like Southampton signing peak Ronaldinho.

With respect, this is rubbish. I think I get the point you are trying to make, in that you want somebody to pump cash into the club and not take a return or profit, but honestly we absolutely need someone who is very serious about business so that we don’t see the waste and incompetence of the Glazers and Woodward again.
The return here is in a long term investment in facilities and rebuilding the ‘sporting brand’ to gain success on the pitch and drive revenue growth that way. It’s not going to be a short term cash machine anymore the way the Glazers have used the club.
This means whoever buys has to be very careful and calculated about how they invest and what they invest in - I.e refurb or rebuild Old Trafford etc…. and of course it goes without saying remove the debt and unshackle the club to allow it to perform on its own. We already compete (financially in terms of transfers and wages at least) even with the constraints of Glazernomics. Imagine how the club would perform with the handbrake off!

I hope when the World Cup is done and journos are back in England, and focused on real football again, that we start getting some leaks of information about this

And I’d like some potential buyers to go public that they’re bidding etc

Really hope this isn’t something that drags on for a year or more

Cant remember who it was but there was some credible journalist expecting the takeover to happen before next summer.

That’s what I’m hoping and think should happen

There’s been talk since the Summer that the Glazers were open to selling and speaking to potential buyers

They’re also smart enough to know how much United fans want them gone, and how much the media will be hounding them about it

So the timing of their announcement gives me hope they want a quick sale / something is advanced behind the scenes

The early landscape seems to be pointing away from a US buyer to my limited understanding. The fact that Liverpoool and Manchester United are both for sale is a clear signal that the market for milking EPL clubs has peaked and is now entereing a long contraction phase. The Glazers have left it too late to get the kind of money they are hoping for from the market. To sell at that price It will have to be to a media company or a billioinaire's plaything or a sportswash. The latter seems to be the most likely but it's not clear who it might be.

Which leads us the worst option of all - that the Glazers can't sell at anything like the price they want and therefore feel obliged to keep their stake - but refuse to invest more than the bare minimum. I see that as a credible possibility.

I really don't. At all. Seems like negativity for negativity sake. There is going to be plenty of buyers for one of the most marketable sports team on the planet, offering more than enough money to see the back of the Glazers.

Yeah I don’t get the negativity at all the status of having the most expensive sports club in history is enough for some bidders.

Anyone else get a feeling the Glazers will still be in charge this time next year?
I know they acknowledge that they are looking for investment, and I feel that is what they will get but it won’t be the buyout we are hoping for.

People are definitely getting carried away when a total buy out is given as ONE of the options.

Explain how it's irrelevant then
Because Dave Brailsford has no connection to the awful people that Middle Eastern countries have hired to run their football clubs in the last 15 years.

By my rough calculations there’s been 9 years of City being run by the ex Barca crew, out of 24 years of state ownership between City and PSG. Meaning there’s been competent leadership for <40% of the time. Something which you have repeatedly claimed they always have best in class involved.

Well you will see my point if it happens
Strange thing to write the whole bid off for.
Anyway, Sir Dave Brailsford is Director of Sport for INEOS, not only OGC Nice. Chances are if Sir Jim does succeed in his bid to buy United, Brailsford will be involved in some regard. At least he has sporting experience and isn’t just a banker.

Yes but not necessarily at the price they want. When greedy people can't get the price they want they sometimes just don't sell.

Not sure if mentioned
But livescore just posted a story from Rio saying Beckham is putting something together with a consortium

hopefully not Qatari

can’t link from their app

I suppose a plus would be Beckham would make sure any bidders know exactly what the club needs going forward and would be reluctant to ally himself with a bid which would be detrimental or not capable or willing to fulfil those needs.

He’s already working with them right? That’s a bad sign

It's clear Beckham is being the frontman of a bid of somebody - but who.

Anyway, it'll be 1 of quite a few I think

Yep, Beckham would never ally himself with a highly unpopular set up would he
