This has been obvious for a while. They will officially pull the plug very soon or accept help from one of the vulture firms, either way they are not going anywhere. In the back of my head I never really believed they were leaving anyway. I just hope they release funds for the summer, but in the grand scheme of things we will just keep sinking as they keep taking, particularly once Qatar purchase Liverpool or Tottenham. We will greatly struggle to make top 4 in the coming years, I think. The media can breathe a sigh of relief - the clicks will keep coming in.

I think this is just them trying to squeeze the bidders

it just makes absolutely no sense for them not to sell here, they might never get this chance again

Yup. They haven’t broken a single story to do with the takeover and said there was no Middle East interest so not sure who their sources within the process are.
I’m pretty sure Whitewell was pushing it’ll probably be a minority investment angle as well.
No surprise this comes out on final weekend. I’m sure it’s a coincidence.

Or in their warped minds, they want to enjoy the rewards of their hard work and their big decision to hire ETH.

I don’t see how they can buy out their siblings at the level they would get if the club was sold to remain majority holders and get funding for the stadium - they’d have to put some of that debt on the club and if they do that the protests would be insane.

anything is possible

but I would honestly put it at a 1% chance they stay

if they don't sell here Qatar will buy another PL team, and one of the best possible buyers will be out

not to mention the new regulations coming in might scupper all kinds of other future opportunities

People keep saying this, but there's no evidence to support this. It was reported all the way back in the summer even before the club was put up for sale that Joel and Avram are looking to buyout their siblings, who wish to cash out. They are very reluctant sellers and it will come down to convincing the rest of their siblings. Their position has only gotten stronger after the recent successes on the pitch. Also, they don't really need Qatar. The club will always have suitors.

I'm certain they are staying.

EDIT: Posted this before I saw the tweets above.

Sell the stadium & the surrounding areas to another co-owned company for development and lease it back.

yeah I know there is no evidence, but it's clearly not possible to have evidence for such a thing

they are not gonna publicly or privately admit that this is just a negotiation tactic

Yep. They'd just posturing. Anything else makes no sense whatsoever.

Or that’s what YOU want it to be.

Atheltic are hugely reliable, the Qatar bid came at the last minute. At the time of reporting there may not have been any concrete bids/interest.

Just because they haven’t broke any stories doesn’t mean they’re not reliable either.

I’d love a full sale but I’m fully expecting the sale not to happen, who knows what will happen after that?

I think it's always been the case that people were getting way too far ahead of themselves on the question of the Glazers selling. Them staying was always a strong possibility and now the most overwhelmingly likely outcome.

Excellent point, you might be onto something here. The club owns a decent chunk of land around the stadium. Couple that with a loan from the likes of Elliot, maybe some concessions elsewhere, and they will find the money to buyout their siblings. Perhaps maybe they can convince some of them to stay, which will further reduce the amount of money they'd need. Well, it was nice to dream for a while, I guess.

If this were true they’d have backed out by now. I’d also argue turning back now anyway would bring on a fan shit storm and cause everything to be 10x worse for them.
Apparently the others have wanted out for a long time now, I can’t see what convincing over a few months would achieve.
None of this make sense.

so just SJR and Qatar?

all the American hedge fund interest seems to be regarding raising funds for others and not a seperate bid, but I never expected anything concrete to come from that direction

And when the club goes bankrupt in 10-15yrs time, it will be sold to a supporter's trust and the assets will all have been stripped away -- no ownership of the stadium or the land around it years before that.

We will be a cautionary tale on some Panorama show.

Yes. They'd piss the Raine group and the bidders off and all if they went back to in their word.

Isnt it the role of Raine to get the best price -- may be they promise the Glazer that they can easily get a minimum of 6 billion quid?

Elliot have offered them lots of cash to stay in return for shares. It's viable alright, unfortunately.
The cost is too high and there’s too much that needs fixing moving forward. The investment required to sort out the stadium would mean an enormous amount of additional debt which isn’t sustainable.

not sure how selling shares is gonna make it financially viable

you're not suggesting the Glazers invest their own money into the club are you?

or if not how does it work?

When I come in this thread I see posts about Mancunians supposedly not wanting the Qatari bid. When I open my door all Mancunians do is tell me how excited they are at the prospect. Something isn’t adding up.

You should phone the police if there are people hanging around your front door harassing you every time you open it mate.
