Tbh was there this much media outrage when Abu Dhabi purchased city? I doubt it.
Don't remember much about their takeover but the Newcastle takeover had as much, maybe more media outrage. I'm sure things will escalate if it appears Qatar are taking over though.

#FSGOUT is trending.

I guess we know what Liverpool fans really think about the bid.

Reading FT article makes it sound like its not state backed. Not sure if it is just to avoid ownership criticism

Sorry if I'm all confused by this guy. Is he 100% part of the royal family or is he just a rich Qatari banker with connections? If he's just a rich Qatari united fan without direct connections to the state then that would be great?
Think he's the son of the former prime minister. Directly connected

So it’s actually happening then…. Mbappe bid incoming in the summer…

The Qatari Royal Family, Al Thanis, consists of several thousand members, hence the confusion. He comes from a key branch of the family, but not the main one. Probably makes little difference in terms of funding - this will have been approved at highest QIA level.

Substantial investment off the pitch on stadium and facilities, a focus on youth, an aversion to a transfer scattergun approach and the redevelopment of the area around OT

Sounds good to me

Current emir's great great great grandfather and our bidder's great grandfather were brothers apparently.

Make of that what you will

Feeling sick right now. Hoping for a miracle here.

Imagine being happy and looking forward for some backwards oil state to own one of the biggest and traditional English institutions.

Yeah would be interesting to know more about it. I mean it seems possible that it's not. I get he's a royal background and his dad used to be PM , but from the sounds of it their branch of the family was kicked to the curb a bit from state affairs? If so and we aren't directly backed by the state then maybe that could appease some? But of course it could all just be for show and to get around the multiple ownership thing with PSG.

Everything said and leaked so far doesn’t suggest they’re going that way. They’re very good at PR at least. The entire media campaign so far has been textbook.
You’ll see I’m a staunch defender of Qatar against the extreme hate from some. But I agree. He was chosen because he is a United fan, and also has a credible work history.

Thank you! Finally a voice of reason.

What is going on here? I thought redcafe is supposed to be a positively selected sample of our global fanbase. I'm not recognising it here.

Are we really going to throw our values out the window at the first smell of some cash for a couple of trophies? So we (as a fanbase) were just pretending our outrage at city and chelsea for the last 15years?

I think I'm even more saddened by the reaction of our fanbase than by the prospect of having to stop supporting this club after 20+years. We are nothing but a bunch of hypocrites. Where is the outrage?

Totally agreed, from what I can see any and all negativity is wiped out by the prospect of becoming another Man City, something we were proud we hadn't yet become.

I'm hoping on the Ratcliffe bid coming in, but I think with the buzz, the statement and the such, this will be the bid that takes it, no contest. Matches the demand from the Glazers and the fans seem to be pretty unanimously happy to let it slide.

One of those where you have to stick your head in the sand to not see it.

Each to your own if you want them or no, if you don't care ultimately or it won't stop you supporting as you can separate club and owner. But we should at least say it like it is.

So this Qatari consortium isn't as wealthy as we hoped huh? Would Ineos actually be the better option?
