Club Sale | It’s done!

I have third one why is it even relevant for them to report it even if it's true it's hardly newsworthy or why even make such thing up unless they just want to appeal to already disgruntled United fan base against Glazers .
Hate to break it to you. Football journalism is gossip for (mostly) men.

Torres is a nutter, no? There’s a podcast I listen to which regularly reads out segments from his latest opinion pieces. They never fail to be absolutely terrible takes.
I'm not sure if you're referring to the same person. Also opinion pieces are just that, opinion. Maybe he is a nutter when he gives his own opinion.

You're really reaching now Rood. Dismissing the premise of democracy in defence of dictatorships.

35% is still a massive consensus compared to what is at best an exclusive oligarchy.

Don't put words in my mouth please - I didn't say anything like that !

But people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones - not refering to you BTW but a general comment on attitudes from some in this thread, probably a better discussion for another thread though

More relevant here is Ratcliffe's political place in the UK oligarchy - what's your feelings about his support for the Tory government and BREXIT?

I think you'd need coke in this case. He also claims the Glazers plan on spending a minimum of 500m in the summer market, and gave the Qataris a list of world class players in several position, including both Osenhim and Kvaradona. He made it sound like Joel and Avram wants to play FM one last time before fecking off.
Whether they stay or go, we will spend imo. Might not be 500m but the club will spend either with a full sale or minority investment.

They probably researched the private jet he hired and got the cost. Both pretty easy. Them guessed he put it down as expenses, as most business owners do.
For that kind of money you're buying the jet not hiring it!

Does the new FFP rules still allow new owners to spend above the limits during the first season? I seem to remember that it was a thing in the previous agreement, new owners weren't limited to the 15m(?) deficit.

Seriously. Also the Glazers use private jets in general and notoriously for free agents and coaching candidates for the Bucs. The most likely thing is that the jets are leased. But either way no one is telling the Athletic which item is on the club's expenses or not.

Thats probably true, and I wouldnt put it past them either to play games and raise the price during the process. He does use euros though, so 7b euros would be around the 6b pounds that the papers have been saying all along.

So they rather see the clubs stadium and training facility collapse? Not to speak of another 18 years of mediocrity on the field?

Why would they pay billions for a club and let assets rot? Haven’t you stopped to wonder how clubs with far less income than ours have managed to pay for new stadiums or renovations, without having the wealth of a state behind them?

You certainly did say something like that.

My feelings on him are irrelevant, but since you asked, I'm not a fan.

Who valued us at £6b anyway-was it Goldman Sachs? Most of our biggest competitors, albeit more recently successful rivals are roughly valued at 2/3rds of the price, and without being saddled with £1b debt.
The Goblins dragging their collective feet has only made the situation look even more ludicrous.

It was the Glazer’s themselves that valued the club apparently at £6 billion, most reputed people/companies value us at anywhere between £2.5-£3.5 billion so the parasites have decided they want double to sell despite the fact they can’t afford the club anymore due to mismanagement and their pure greed.

I saw it and have two questions, how would they know who paid? Those same papers don't have a clue about every other expenses including actually wages but somehow they would be in the know for that particular expense?

Apparently there is a leak within the club, it's said that many club employees are tired of the Glazer regime and want them gone ASAP

Just speculation though

No I did not - I only commented about the sham democracy we have in the UK, I made no comment or comparison to any dictatorship

So what's your ownership preference ? That is what this thread is actually about after all

I lean toward the Atlhletic are full of shit.

So you prefer having someone with no track record or expertise whatsoever to someone who has some experience?
I prefer someone with no track record, but who has the funds to hire the best team for directing the club (as Mansour did at $hitty), over someone whose track record is composed of failures and mediocrity.

That's a good question and I was just wondering if we can overspend this summer and curtail the spending in the next summer or two?

I'm don't think we need to spend anywhere close to €500m. Around half that would be more than enough imo.

I think the person most insufferably ardent that this is not a state bid also saying 'maybe democracy isn't all it's cracked up to be' is too much to have going on.

That would certainly be the only for Boehly to have got away with his insane spending spree.

Not sure about that, it seems amoritization is the key which is a big reason why so many of those deals were for stupid 8 year contracts. They did actually sell a couple of players during the summer and as they were academy guys that shows as straight profit and then Mudryk at 80M on an 8 year deal allegedly only counts 10M per season for the duration. Massively risky though because if you have more misses than hits with those kinds of deals you are completely hamstrung for future windows as the deadwood stays on your books for a looong time.

I think The Athletic is about as good as we have at the moment for journalism but this is a sad reflection on just how low the bar has fallen in the click bait tabloid era

Wasn’t some of the fellas who turned up at old Trafford on behalf of Jassim from the Bank of America?

My ownership preference would derail things even further. I'll not add to the shitshow.

Thanks, it’s ridiculous though even if they do eventually get their asking price. The EPL/FA should’ve changed the rules by now insisting on applying an independent valuation for any club sale in the future. Hopefully it’ll prevent situations like ours ever being repeated.

When it comes to news the Athletic are as bad the rest, their winning formular is on long form articles and analytics.

Yes, but the information attributed to Diego Torres in the tweet above is absolute nonsense - Jassim and the Qataris certainly didn't "approve" the credit facility with BofA - the credit facility has been in place since October 2020, having been brought in to ease cashflow concerns during the pandemic.

It's a little confusing due to the story being translated from Spanish to English. But from what I gather, Jassim has been consulted regarding the players that are wanted by the club this summer and his intention is to back them.

Hes saying that Jassim will pay the 6bn if UCL qualification is guaranteed due to the potential sponsorships he could bring to the club on the back of that.
If that’s true, it could be the reason for the delay in the announcement until end of season? Clutching straws here.

How reliable is the tweet?

Must be embarrassing for them having to behave like shills on behalf of such vile owners.

Andy Mitten has been saying for months openly on podcasts that employees are saying they want the Glazers gone. If it’s in The Athletic, that’s probably where it’s come from.

We know he has plenty of contacts in the club, I don’t see why he’d just completely lie about what they are telling him.

I think the transfer list would have been shared with Jim as well.

So if true, and it’s a big if, this would indicate that Jassims bid has more or less been accepted?
What the journo has also reported is that Sheikh Jassim and his team have been stunned by the Glazers raising the price by 1bn after agreeing to sell for 6bn. So I'd take everything with the a pinch of salt for now because the Glazers are going to try and extract as much money out of this sale as possible.
