Just wondering out of curiosity, how many of the anti-Qatar folks wouldn't give a toss about this stuff if they were not buying United. How many of them who see a pretty woman, first thing they say is 'Oh I certainly would' or 'I couldn't care less about the woman's football team. Why are we wasting money on the women's team when that would buy us a strikerWomen are stupid, women drivers :lol:The other way round, hope people read all this and not just the first bit, drive cars that eat up petrol, travel here there and everywhere on planes for business, throw litter on the floor, leave dog crap lying around, rather than cleaning it up. That is just bad for the environment, it is a danger to young children as bacteria in it can cause blindness. How many recycle properly. Whatever side of the argument, we will all likely be hypocrits.

I read it all, wish I hadn't.

But, but Jassim and his foundation are completely independent from the Qatari state right?

Right?
Well, no. Don’t think anyone is seriously suggesting that.

As far as I know states are allowed to own clubs. You just have to have an entirely separate structure from a team like PSG

Many people in this thread are seriously suggesting that Jassim buying is a private bid. I mean, everyone else knows it is a state bid, but many people have convinced themselves it is not.

A change to this would be great for football.

I genuinely see nothing that excites me with the SJR deal. INEOS are incompetent football club owners, it will keep/increase the debt, it will keep the Glazers in and there's no tangible commitment of improving the infrastructure. I'd rather see the Glazers staying on present terms (knowing that they lack the finances to keep the club for long) rather then have this deal with the devil.

You could just copy and paste this by now. Passing off your guesswork as fact

Just look at how exciting the PL and Ligue 1 would've been these last few years if you take City and PSG out.

I'm all for smaller teams smartly building their way up and becoming "bigger" (Spurs are a good example over the last 20 years, or maybe Atletico), but doing it by having a bottomless pit of money just takes all the enjoyment away and it becomes hollow as hell.

Also, what's the point of a team like Brighton? They've grown by leaps and bounds these last 14-15 years, but ultimately it will be pointless if they have to compete with 3 state owned clubs (City, Newcastle, potentially United). It will mean that the top 3 positions in the league are unattainable and the best you can hope for is 4th. It would be like Formula 1's previous era, no matter what you do and how smartly you are operating, Mercedes, Ferrari and Red Bull will be ahead of you no matter what.

The temptation to tag a cetain poster here

Deal with the devil as in letting a murderous, human rights abusing evil regime get their dirty hands on your beloved football club? No! It's the random billionaire asshole that wants to buy the club with his company is what you consider the "devil".

Another embarrassing take from you, not surprised though.

How can you guys be so sure that it's not a private bid? I am not saying that it is, but what gives you the full confidence to fully state that it's a state bid?

Just asking, cause I haven't seen any fact or proof from each side of this argument. Just takes and gut feelings.

He’s been writing the same take for probably 500-600 pages now. The mental gymnastics must be exhausting, he settled into a fixed argument a few hundred pages ago though so maybe not.

Not quite.

I respect your views, however South Africa was different. South Africa was subject to boycotts from the world community at large and most nations.

The South African issue was nothing like Qatar. The UK Government had placed sanctions against South Africa, the UK government has encouraged Qatari investment. Sports teams were banned from travelling to South Africa, we have just held a World Cup in Qatar.

Double standards in my opinion and the boycott of South Africa was also mitigated.

You mentioned Ligue 1 which is interesting because didn’t Lyon win like 8/9 in a row?

Him saying that he'd rather keep the Glazers over Ratcliffe + the Glazers with a minority stake tells you that he's too far gone.

And how will that change if they don't buy United? Its ironic how the buck stop with Manchester United. Yet there is zero concern of them (and other ME states) buying half of the UK including 2 clubs and a big chunk of london. So if Qatar is indeed the devil then the UK has been in its bed for years. That include your beloved king/head of state BTW

What would change? Both are incompetent owners with a history of mismanaging clubs. At least the Glazers will sell soon as they ran out of money.

I went and checked, just for you. :)

Lyon won 7 in a row. Pts difference to 2nd placed team: 2, 1, 3, 12, 15, 17, 4.

They had 3 very dominant years, but it was a close race in the other 4 seasons.

Between 2009 and 2012, 4 different teams won the league between Lyon's and PSG's dominant eras: Bordeaux (3 pts ahead of 2nd), Marseille (6 pts), Lille (8 pts), and Montpellier (3pts).

Since then, PSG has won the league 8 times in the last 10 seasons (9 in 11 if you count the current season).

Pts difference to 2nd placed team: 12, 9, 8, 31, 13, 16, 12, 15. An average of 14.5 points. Lyon's average is 7.71 points...and they weren't state owned to my knowledge, so at least teams could have realistic plans to overcome them...can you say the same about any Ligue 1 club today?

You keep saying Ineos are incompetent owners, what evidence do you have that Qatar will be any better? The only thing they’ve said about future management of the club is they’ll get “legends” involved. How many of our legends have worked out in Football management at any level?

Suspect there’s a big overlap in the Venn diagram between Jim supporters and those that voted for Brexit. Mind you, that was a majority of people in Britain, although I suspect it would be a lot less in favour if you reran the vote now.

Off topic but it wasn't a majority of Britain who voted for BREXIT (because not everyone voted), only around 35% voted Leave and fecked the rest of us for years to come

Maybe democracy isn't all it's cracked up to be

Back on topic, the political leaning of Sir Jim as a major Tory party donor and Brexiteer are clearly a major issue for many United fans

I'd rather have an unknown owner with an attractive plan and loads of cash then a proven failure. The way lausanne and Nice are run is hilarious. Bob Ratcliffe and cyclist man makes arnold and murtough look like geniuses. No wonder why nice fans are up at arms

Thank god that Ratcliffe is a fast learner. Imagine what he would have done to Nice if he wasn't

While I get your scepticism and my excitement for Ineos as new owners won't be anywhere near as it is with Qatar, there really is no comparison.

The only 'benefit' of the Glazers staying on their own in my opinion is the distinct possibility they'll have to sell fully in the next 5 years latest while if Jimmy Brexit gets his hands on us, our competitiveness for the next decade or even more is gone.

I'm not from the UK or Ireland, but even if I was, Qatar buying up half of London would have no importance to me since it doesn't concern me and there's nothing I can do about it. Also, it's irrelevant because we're talking about football. I'm against any government owning a football (or any other sports) club.

People that don't want to sell the club's soul to a murderous, human rights abusing regime are Brexit voters.

I'm not even from the UK but that's hilarious from you.

Did Sheikh Jassim murder someone? I must have missed this breaking news

Your country is probably reliant on ME investment as well. I don't agree with ME policies. However they are good owners as shown at City, Newcastle and at a lesser grade PSG. Football is not politics. If qatar buy us i doubt that any of us will suddenly turn homophobes just as none of us became leeches or peeping Tom's during the Glazers or Edwards ownership. Fans are mature to distinguish between football and politics

Are you trying to argue that it's not a state bid?

Even if it wasn't (very unlikely scenario):

1. His father used to be the Prime Minister of Qatar.

2. Jassim is either using the state's or his dad's money.

3. He's literally part of the royal family that rules an authoritarian regime.

My country is reliant on sucking Russia's dick and it's the government I hate the most over any other in the world. You are still not getting my point. It's not about agreeing or disagreeing with Middle Eastern policies, or the Quran, or Qatar's penal code.

It's about any government buying a sports club with their bottomless pit of money to 1. use it as a sportswashing tool 2. make the competition utterly pointless for teams that aren't state-owned, especially long-term.

If Ineos bought the club, their pollution and wrongdoings should be brought to light and be criticised. I'm not a fan of them or Ratcliffe. It's just that they cannot even be compared to any government, especially to state like Qatar.

You're really reaching now Rood. Dismissing the premise of democracy in defence of dictatorships.

35% is still a massive consensus compared to what is at best an exclusive oligarchy.

Yeah how dare a democratic country have a democratic process. Down with democracy.

I just don't want Qatar to own us simple as that we don't need state backing.
We likely don't for day to day running of the club. However, we really need a Billion or more for infrastructure purposes depending on the type of ground and training facilities the new owners opt for going forward.
