Maybe you should focus your free time on making more money or training to move into a higher paid industry, rather than spending all your free time on a game of football, at the detriment of caring about real world human rights abuses.

A late contender for one of the most stupid posts I've read this year - and that's not just on this forum.

The funny thing is, if we were run efficiently, we wouldn't need to be owned by a state in order for it to feel like a cheat code. We are still the biggest club in England.

If my grandad hadn't been riddled with cancer he could have done the London marathon. This is the real world, not Germany :)

The whole notion of stopping being a fan is ludicrous to me. You can't just flick a switch and turn your support on and off.

I highly doubt those threatening it would go through with it.

There have been a few lately but yeah this one is up there.

This may be true but what business is going to spend almost 7 billion to buy us and not expect to run it commercially with profit at the top of the priority list.

Whoever will buy Manchester United will be spending an eye watering 5B-7B. He'll buy a brand that is in the decline and with sponsorships jumping ship.
TeamViewer didn’t jump ship because of us. It was about them. They, although I’m not up to date , are also trying to get out of their F1 deal.

We know how bad the glazers have been for the football side of things, but commercially it's been a massive success, they've made millions yearly and about to make a massive profit selling the club. I don't see what will change with the next owner if bought under the same model.

Human right has freedom of opinion and expression, right?

I'm not too sure what the poster said to you that you attacked him like this?

This is why I try and stay away from such matters. It is much deeper than football. The quoted post proves the point.

Surely this can't be a case of the devil we know... Will we look back at the Glazers and say, "Those were the days..."?

No. No we won't.
Would actually be hilarious if those who (forever whatever reason ) have a problem with ME investment manage to get the ME investors to pull out and buy Liverpool and United end up with Glazers 2.0. US investment. Watch the budget sheet, gotta get the ROI, and whose other investments may very well include weapons of war, things that require war.

Well performing on the pitch is intrinsically linked to profits too.

I don’t think we could be bought under the same ownership model. It wouldn’t work - that’s why the Glazers want out.
We need huge investment in the infrastructure, playing staff et al, and cheap credit has all but dried up. If you buy the club on your corporate credit card you won’t make any money because of the debt repayments. Interest rates are on the Up, there is a recession on the horizon and folk will have far less disposable to fritter on things like entertainment and sport meaning revenue will take a hit.
The ESL was their get out of debaters jail free card, a licence to print money effectively and it didn’t work. Last chance saloon is to sell up, laugh all the way to the bank and leave the mess for someone else to clean up. Anybody interested In the same stategy will undoubtedly be put off by the huge asking price because the short term value just isn’t there any longer. We’re too expensive to flip for a ‘quick‘ profit.

So what are the options mate.

We've been making profits despite our slump since Fergie left.

I wouldn’t read too much into companies dropping sponsorships right now. It’s pretty normal to be looking for cost efficiencies in current economic climate and sports sponsorships are usually one of the first things you turn your attention towards. They are typically low return, hard to measure and easily removable with the right clauses. They tend to be a decent proposition to promote your brand in times of prosperity but don’t usually boost sales that much.

a point few people consider though, sportswashing DOESNT actually do anything! does anyone actually think, oh the emirates must be a lovely bunch of lads because of the success they brought to the likes of city??, and i think most people know alot more about the injustices that goes in qatar than they ever did pre world cup.
i say let them blow billions on man utd that wont achieve anything for them, instead of more parasites crawling in, just my 2 cents

crossy will correct me, however, believe, in loose terms, that someone/people have bet the share price will go to $23 by a certain date.

A lot of risk, as Man Utd shares on usually traded like that. So, the assumption is, someone knows some big news coming out soon, which will soar the price.

Again, I stand to be corrected.

Wouldn't that be insider trading then?

Thats wishful thinking. Newcastle havent actually won anything. New owners with oil money are no guarantee for that neither.
I know that. Look at how the mood has changed since change of ownership. They will win something soon. Look at City and their owners turned them into a well run club help having football people instead of bankers.Oil owners doesn't guarantee success but it would damn sure help mate.

This poster gets it.

Exactly. Also don’t forget the publicity they got by ending the deal. Look at Kohler, now it’s just become a name on the United sleeve. Most people probably don’t even know what they do. If tomorrow they end the deal.. they’re back in the news, sports news and business news.

Has there actually been any confirmation on who our benevolence new over lords might be?

Yeh, absolutely. But we generate enough money that we don't need a sugar daddy like Saudi to dope us into competing - it's an incredibly good position to be in. Why compromise on our moral standing and become a soft power tool when we don't have to? Chelsea just got taken over by a consortium that have promised over a billion in investment. There are other options out there.
Yes- well, let’s hope so. In my view it would be awful to get hitched to one of these human rights abusing oil states. I don’t want Utd to become another City.

This is a myth. No club can afford 200m every year without outside help or creative accounting.

Manchester United is a big club, but you're dreaming if you think we can spent 200m every year. It's already amazing the Glazer spend close to 1billion the last 10 years. That's 100m per year and that's close to the ceiling.

Agree. Someone out to track these hysterics and see if they are still here next summer. You only worry about what you have control over -- and not what you can't control.

You seem incredibly detached from the real world for someone caring about real world human rights abuses.

It’s the new going to poorer African countries and taking pictures with the kids, or going to Thailand and posing besides a drugged up Tiger. It’s genuinely just online image crafting for a significant %, with very little self awareness.

Clearly you do have people who care about human rights, even if it’s just a specific cause, but what you’ll tend to find is they will actually have knowledge of the issue. The amount of times I’ve heard people take about UAE/Qatar human rights issues and then add things like “hands chopped off” etc shows zero knowledge.
