CL Semi-Finals 13/14 - April 22,23,29,30

I admire Pep for the depth and effectiveness of his philosophy but if all teams adopted his tactical style I think that I would stop watching football.

Wenger said it best when he described it as 'sterile domination'. It just lacks that magic that usually comes from freedom of expression on the pitch, that magic is usually why most of us fell in love with the game in the first place.

I seriously think Ronaldo is not interested in build-up play, his contribution decreases with each season. He has to do more in games like that.

I really liked watching Barca in their prime years. But just because it worked for them doesn't mean you can turn every team in tiki-taka winning machine. Time will tell if Pep has something more in his locker, I suppose he will have to adapt pretty soon.

Except for the fact he played the pass to set Coentrao free for the Real goal...

If Guardiola stopped trying to be a smart arse, look-at-me hipster and actually played the best RB in the world at RB I'm not convinced that goal would have happened.

Pepe is not a poor centerback. He's better than Ramos.
being better than Ramos isn't saying much. Ramos is a fullback who was converted to a centrehalf because Real would rather spend money on fancy attacking players and because Spain has hardly produced top class defenders in the last few years

It's a bit odd, considering Javi Martinez is sitting on the bench; is he not fully fit?

Don't like the possession game that much myself. But to be fair Madrid is not even trying to attack Bayern players.

Very smart defending - minimizing the risk to conced a goal and focusing on the rare chances. That will be the future of football. For me the overall defensive tactics have evolved far more in the last years than any other aspect of the game.

I think in a way that's the point. There isn't one true or pure football and the contrasts make it great.

You watch a half like that, where basically one team had the ball and the other team created the dangerous chances. It's great.

Can't catch the game but, just looked at the stats and Bayern have 79% possession in the first half? Some were quite critical of how un-United it was when we had very little possession at home against them.

Madrid had 3 clear chances. Bayern are quite useless with all their possession.

Ancelotti is clearly copying David Moyes, the shameless bastard.

What does this mean?

I explained it further above. His job is primarily about getting on the end of every single move. He isn't as involved in the build up these days, even though he is still immensely talented enough to do so. I'd like to see him a little more involved every now and then, or even hugging the touchline and tearing apart a fullback. More out of interest than anything else.

Ribery has been pretty much non-existent during the first half. He really hasn't been the same after the buttock injury, it quite literally is a pain in the ass.

If he continues like that it probably won't be a bad idea to sub him out, bring Muller or Gotze in.

I'm not happy with how we are playing, but on the other hand Madrid are executing their plan brilliantly.

For now, how else would you counter possession? Especially when its so well drilled.

not surprised Wenger has a name for it since it's what Arsenal has done for the past 9 years

Real are letting them have the ball and hitting them on the counter. Madrid should be 3-0 up.
