I find it ironic that some of us here are labelling players like gudhjohnsen as not being utd's class and yet rate forlan as being the next superstar striker.

I have to agree with Ichk.

I see 10 other strikers in the league fitting in to our team better than Forlan can. But then again Ichk, Forlan has got the "If I don't get to play I won't complain" attitude like Ole. Which is important to us really as a team that relies most on rotations. Both Djibril and Eider will definitely have samthing to say if they don't get to play regularly.

It could mean trouble for us.

and yet players like yorke, cole and sheringham could cope with that well enough

the same goes for our rivals

squad rotation is part and parcel of the modern game anyway so I doubt many players are going to complain too much about it unless they are persistently dropped for little or no reason.

Perhaps you could enlighten us on who you believe the ten strikers are.

Here's my wanted list of forwards/strikers who play in the league (being very resonable), not in order though:

1. Luis Saha, I've always been a fan of his style since he joined Fulham and i believe he has the ability to connect our midfield and attack game plays.

2. Di Canio, 'nuff said.

3. Eider Gudjohnson, he has the pace and the style that I think will compliment well with our midfield. And RVN will not have to run everywhere so much with him around.

4. Sheringham, I still feel he would make a good partner to ruud and to connect our midfield with the attack. He is my ideal player to play in the hole. With Scholes and Keane to back him up, they could be explosive in 4-4-1-1.

5. Bergkamp, he still has a career left in him and I feel we could use his magic touches in our team at the moment. He could also teach JSV how to pass properly and still make a difference.

6. Robbie Keane, I was very disappointed we didn't snap him at that price. It's only because he would conflict with Scholes' presence in the team that he didn't join us IMO. He would make a great partner to Ruud though.

7. Fowler, somehow at the poor level of football he has shown before he left Liverpool and since I still feel he could be the right man for the job at OT. He had an opportunity to join us 3-4 years back I think, but it never happened.

8. Jermaine Defoe, he's young, he won't complain about being on the bench too much and he sure does look like a good prospect IMHO.

9. Wayne Rooney, we need more guys like him who isn't afraid to show some flair like he did against us and Arsenal. Massive influence for Everton right now I reckon. He can be the spice in our game comes January.

10. Last but not least, James Beattie. He showed his strength against us last year until the minute he got injured. Too much injuries I reckon, but definitely has the potential. He scored 10 goals in the last 10 games for So'ton last season. Very very impressive.

I honestly don't believe any of these players should cost more than 10m, except for maybe Eider who Chelsea are looking at 15m for.

Personally, just feel that we need not have to buy a World Class player to partner RVN or Ole, but someone who has the pace (usually a young player) and able to deliver goals for us. :)

Eidur is world class, Forlan has potential. Big difference.

And yet there are some deluded folks here who believe that "world class" eidur isn't good enough for us......

I am of the opinion Eidur isnt the player we need atm. If we sign a player in the mould of Duff or Ronaldinho this winter and seal the championship, then we can bolster the attack further. We need an extra dimension up front, and a creative Duff/Little Ronny or a pacy Cisse would be the best bet. Guddy's a top player though. ;)

The thing about this is that if we get someone like Ronaldinho or Duff, we may have to drop Scholes.. and we will still be playing 4-4-1-1 with either of these two playing in the hole.. it's too much of a conflict and doesn't add dimensions - only more rotation options.

If we get Eidur, it's a different buy because now we're getting someone who can play 4-4-2 and will give us dimensions to our game.. if Scholes is played, we go 4-4-1-1, if Eidur is playing with RVN, then we can revert to use 4-4-2.

It will give us more flexibility to try things up front. I feel it's the 4th striker we need, not a man who will play in the hole.

Gives us the best of both worlds.

I agree - looking at it from all angles, Eidur is our best choice as a striker buy, well adjusted to the premiership and can cut it in europe as well as having international experience which gives him the right temperament for big games.

I don't think creativity in attack is as big a problem as someone who's pacy and can stick it in the net which is our main concern up front especially when RVN isn't playing. Having EG around will surely instill a lot more confidence in the side.
