Christopher Nkunku to Chelsea | Confirmed

Looked quality last night, think he’ll shine for Chelsea if he joins them. meanwhile we’re still waiting for sancho to show us why we signed him.
Now we're making negative comparisons with our rival's signings before they've even kicked a ball for them.

I'm pretty sure I read a few days ago that Nkunku's future release clause is in place for everyone except Bayern. Clearly Leipzig don't want to sell to them and the price tag for Bayern would be a lot more, something like +80M€ which they're never going to pay.

I feel Bayern might be in for Havertz next summer though. Unless he kicks on massively this season he'll probably be available at a cut price deal and it's just not working out for him at Chelsea so maybe a return to the Bundesliga would do him some good? Havertz leaving would also free up a place for Nkunku to come in so I doubt Chelsea would be against letting him go.
This honestly would be a win win for both parties. Havertz is stagnating here and doesn’t really fit, and could excel again at Bayern where his skill set fits better.

Imo Havertz + Nkunku front 2 would be pretty ideal. Nkunku has pace and will run behind and has composure to score (unlike Sterling) while Havertz can get on the end of crosses and head the ball. Both are creative and will help set up teammates

Not really… just stating an opinion.
Which is pointless because Sancho looked quality when he was in Dortmund. So your opinion would have been the same if Sancho was playing for Leipzig and Chelsea were to sign him.

I’d rather have gotten him than Antony personally
I think if everyone leaves club bias to one side and looks at it fairly, not many would have signed Antony before Nkunku. Granted Nkunku will have a release clause this summer, and no idea what we're paying as its slightly above it. But potentially 20-30m-ish cheaper than Antony. Antony was 90m euros wasn't he?

No, it was €100m.

Should be done before the WC according to some German media today, and Gvardiol will follow

We have another team that will be streets ahead of us in terms of ambitious signings, they basically paid more than we probably wanted to for Nkunku and we'll end up doing a Fellaini again by signing Gakpo who was available for less in an earlier window.

I'll be very interested to learn the (accurate) details regarding his salary and signing bonus.

Nkunku's agent pretty clearly set things up so that he would have a relatively low release clause next summer and be in position to ignite a bidding war between clubs in terms of wages/bonuses, following the Haaland template essentially. For them to change plan and accept an offer at this stage it had to be one so big they simply couldn't refuse.

Well in fairness, I called it when Sancho was signed, that he would start slow to his United career. You can literally count on about 1 hand how many young wingers have hit the blocks running in England in the last 20-30? Years. Giggs, Robben.. I’m struggling.. even Ronaldo wasn’t great when he joined you. Sancho will come good.

Injured and misses the World Cup.

Another Boehly masterclass with the early medical.
Looked a nasty tackle.

What a stupid drill to perform pre world cup? how getting 2 players running at each other head first, fighting for a ball is a good idea, i'll never know.

You seem to have a thing for Boehly. Chelsea fans don't care about him as much as you seem to do

I just like underlining how incompetent you lot currently are.

Heard plenty of it over the years with Woodward so nice the roles have been reversed!

You don't think another medical will be taken if he eventually ends up signing? At least now they have some data from before to compare the new medical records with to see how serious the damage from the new injury has been and how well he's healed.

We're talking about a transfer worth around €60M here and a medical costs what, a few thousand euros? Who the feck cares?

Like chasing a midfield all summer who didn’t ever want to join you? Interesting

i heard boehly paid all the money upfront for him, including all bonuses, just because someone at leipzig said “that’s just how it’s done in soccer.” they then told him about the chelsea pensioners who go around begging for money and use it to tie him up in endless court battles and that he should boo and harass them every time he sees them.

TheReligion is having a field day over here with his new and very fashionable Chelsea boots.

@weetee why does it say you support no-one in particular when you're a Chelsea fan, are you shy about it or summink? ;)
Because that's the truth? I do follow them to some extent. Much less since Tuchel got sacked.

Don't get the concern trolling about Chelsea. It's not like he did his ACL - he's expected to return in 6 to 8 weeks.

Another centre back?! You just signed Koulibaly and Fofana, on top of having the likes of Chalobah, Thiago Silva, Cucurella (who appears to be playing as part of the back 3), and Colwill already at the club. Seems like massive overkill to bring in another centre back on top of the massive outlay done a few months ago as well as potentially damage the work the youth players have done to stake a claim?

Follow them to some extent... You refer to Chelsea as "we" all the time so it is just curious that you choose not to disclose it there! :)
Let's say I followed them very closely while TT was there. But I'm not rooting for them by default if that's what you want to know. If anything, I support Hertha Berlin but that's a lost cause and the mods didn't go for it either (but still kept the "Supports:" line which I find a bit silly but it's also not in my hands and totally irrelevant in the grand scheme of things).

Anyway, Nkunku is a cracking player and I'm very curious how he adapts to the PL.

TBF It's not a big deal either way, I'm just joshing with ya. ;) It's just seems more 'truthful' to list it in the Supports field, if you know what I mean?, as you're still active on ShedEnd forum to this day so it's not just during Tuchel's reign and like I said you refer to them as "we" and "us". But I know Chiemoon already made the same point to you before so you do you, and let's get back to talking about Nkunku 'ndeed.

I have never seen him play and have nothing to offer this thread in that regard. Sounds talented.

Are you stalking me? I've made about seven posts in the ShedEnd since they sacked him and all those very likely referred to Tuchel. I watched his Mainz side, Dortmund side, Paris side and then his Chelsea side. This forum is a very good one and has an interesting community so I don't feel like abandoning it because a manager I like got sacked.

I'm not going to pretend to be a United fan if that's what you're fearing :smirk: so carry on.

Gvardiol talks beween clubs started in the summer . The talk has always been Gvardiol to replace Silva, who is ageing and likely wont play week in week out next yr

Yeah, we definitely need a quality replacement for Silva next summer. I doubt he even stays beyond this season but even he does extend by another year he'll be 39 at the start of next season and his role will become smaller and smaller as the season goes on.

Aside from Silva I would say Azpi is another one who's been playing in the back-3 and needs replacing sooner rather than later. If both of them are gone by next season there's only Fofana, Koulibaly, Chalobah left as traditional center backs and then Cucurella who can play in a back-3 at a pinch but is by no means at his best there. Whether Colwill gets a place in the squad or not there's still going to be room for one more and I'd be very happy if it was Gvardiol

So you are sticking to a back 5, then? Because Fofana, Koulibaly, Chalobah, Colwill, and Gvardiol for a back 4 is a bit mental. If it's a back 5 you can add Cucurella too, which is 6 players. Seems excessive. Not convinced you'll go for Gvardiol.

Potter's Brighton changed their formation from game to game with a back-3 and back-4 both used a lot. So far it's been the same at Chelsea too so I don't think there's a formation he's dead set on.

Assuming we'll still play plenty of games with three at the back next season too we'll definitely need five CBs. I don't think Cucurella will play there much when everyone is fit, like James he can play there if absolutely needed but that doesn't mean he should and therefore I wouldn't really count him as an extra CB.
