This is such a bad transfer. If we get De Jong, Malacia, Eriksen, Lisandro and Antony it will be god awful window. Backup AM, backup LB, backup-ish RW (depending on Rash and Sancho) and a backup CB. Malacia comes in as back up for Shaw. Given how Malacia and Eriksen will take playing time away from Hannibal and Alvaro we needed top tier players in those positions if ten Hag needed improving in those pos. 2 years from now we will be talking about how we have burned through cash again.
We have Maguire and Varane. Plus 3 players we bought for 30 mil in Jones, Bailly and Lindelof. Lisandro is such a bad buy. He has played, 24, 26 and 24 games in last 3 seasons, he is 24 years old. Played 7 games for ARG and ten Hag didn’t even know his best pos. Half games played in CB half in DM.
Eriksen is the worst age possible for us. You are going to have to play him a lot, and everybody keeps talking how good he was for brentfor. He only played 11 games for brentford. Before that he was criminally bad for the last 4 years. Spurs couldn’t even sell him. We will hear soon that those weren’t the transfers ten Hag wanted.
I know you want transfers but to improve your squad you need to improve your first 11. Not backups.
lets see how this rant ages. I am praying god awfully, but wouldn’t bet on it
This post is so bad it's actually good. Kind of like trash music, you know its horrible but you cant stop listening to it.

I don't agree but it's true he was rather poor in his last season at Spurs and not great initially at Inter too. I'm not sure how his second season went, probably better. The Indian summer Eriksen enjoyed at Brentford - and he did look very good - looked like a man intent on proving he can still ball following his horrible near-death experience. This plays into our hand but I don't think we'll get more than 2 years from him, a bit like Matic when he signed.

Even I'm happy with this. No, he's not prime Scholes or Keane or a Robson. No he's not the answer to everything. Yes, he is in the older age group. But he has also shown in the past year what effort and commitment can bring to a team that showed very little of it last season. He should be a good presence on and off the field
:annoyed:

Guess it’s a low risk transfer. Adds depth to the squad. Nothing to shout about mind, not sure how you play him and Bruno together either if that is the occasional plan. Maybe if we had a specialist holder we could play them as a 6 and 8 but apparently that position is not an important one on the pitch.

people be talking about his age and if he can still move?!

Like the guy just turned 30 .. he isn't 36....do you even know him and his capacity? cause it feels like you don't when reading this.

In the 2019/2020 season, before he left in January, he had more ground covered than anyone on the Tottenham team.
and when the season ended, even though he left in January. he still had 3 spots on the top 5 of distance covered for Tottenham that season

5. Christian Eriksen vs Arsenal (12.22km)
The Danish playmaker may have moved on in January, but he has registered three of the top five running numbers for Spurs this season.
12.22km in the North London derby ranks at the 69th highest of any player in the Premier League so far this campaign.

4. Christian Eriksen vs Manchester City (12.25km)
With just 0.03km more, Eriken’s performance against Manchester City in August ranks three places higher than against Arsenal, 66th overall from individual numbers this season.

3. Christian Eriksen vs Brighton and Hove Albion (12.28km)
Just slightly higher again, the Danish midfielder clocked in at 12.28km versus Brighton and Hove Albion in early October.
Despite a big shift from Eriksen, Spurs fell to a 3-0 defeat at the AMEX Stadium.

Guys should be praising this tranfers, you get a guaranteed double digits assists.
His last 4 full seasons in Tottenham resulted in him being top 5 in most assists in PL, every year.
Only De Bruyne has better stats than Eriksen during his time in the league, and thats a fact.

You know how many times United had a player in top 5 assists in all those years? .... 1 time.. Pogba, and he never made more than Eriksen.
You've literally not had a player with better stats for more than a decade, so how can anyone be whining about that.

Also just throwing this in, if Ronaldo leaves...

Christian Eriksen has scored the most goals from outside the box (23) and most direct free-kicks goals (8) since his PL debut in September 2013.
Yep thats a fact.. when Eriksen left, nobody in the league had more free kick goals than him, and nobody had more goals outside the box, in the entire league.

Erksen can pretty much drop anywhere around midfield. He will hopefully be taking minutes away from Fred and McT, it would be more concerning if they continue to get game time ahead of Eriksen and Hannibal or who ever else is brought in.

Don't think he can buy a backup for RW as there really isn't anyone to be backup to.

At CB, after last season Maguire, Varane and Lindelof, should be the ones fighting to get in the team ahead of any new signings.

I think you'll be surprised when Shaw is the one playing as backup.

Wouldn't be surprised if he plays on the right if we don't sign Antony, can work as a wide playmaker

Will be interesting to see how Ten Hag uses him and if he tries to facilitate him and Bruno in the same lineup. We've played CAMs out wide before with little success. Square peg round hole and all that. Still desperate for a CDM of course

I totally agree.

I'm really worried that the club is not signing anything in the positions we need to strengthen. Even if Eriksen is one of my favourite players, is he the signing for 150 k a week that should be prioritised before other positions are fixed? If there is one position in the team were there is no need for strengthening it's the attacking midfield position (the GK position is also ok). Bruno might try many hollywood passes, but he has been a good player for the club, even if his form was poor last season. If we signed a new right back, central defender (not a 1.75 m short one) a central defenive midfielder, a versatile midfielder and a striker, and after that landed Eriksen on free then I would have been happy. But now they give away 150 k a week before glaring holes in the team are wide open and not even close to be sealed (Well maybe the transfer of de Jong is close, but that has been said for a while now so I won't hold my breath.). The club should buy what it needs first and then add to the positions we already have.

I think the quality of eriksen is being underestimated, the only reason he was at Brentford was not because his quality dropped off but because of a massive health scare that didn't allow him to play for serie a champions inter Milan due the league's ruling on his condition.

I'm not underestimating him at all, he is class.
But he probably isn't a first choice in our creative/attacking central MF, as we already have the options of Bruno, and perhaps Donny.
So one or two of those are going to be benched, and that's not necessarily a bad thing, but it's not addressing the more serious problems at RB, RW at CB or in DM etc...
Until those problems are resolved, you're not going to close that gap significantly, by having better squad depth in AMC roles.

I would say RB situation will remain up in the air until he has seen AWB & Dalot, in terms of a CB I am intrigued by Martinez despite the height. I see us looking at the CDM situation next window/summer if Fred/Scott aren't up to partnering De Jong. Quite honestly the striker situation really depends on what happens with Ronaldo, he stays we need a RF, goes it's a CF.

If I remember correctly he is quite good at direct free kicks isn't he? It would be nice to have that option in the team as well

So we haven't announced signing anyone and he's ready to put pen to paper ? I guess all those media reports about waiting for us to sign players was a load of bollocks.
Colour me surprised. I mean, who believed that when his other option was Brentford and nobody has heard of players they are signing.

The waiting was almost certainly about whether to leave London where his family is settled.

Scored a fair few at Spurs.

My defensively worry about playing Bruno and Eriksen together in a 3-midfield wasn’t out of the blue:lol:

He is basically replacing Mata's role but taller.

Yeah no doubt we still need some steel hence why we should push for Kante if Chelsea want Ronaldo

It'll be interesting to have a player no opposing fan can dislike, everyone loves Eriksen. Who was the last universally liked United player? Really can't think of one...

One at Anfield or Etihad please Christian

The first question anyone should ever ask when their football team makes a signing- 'Does this transfer make our squad better?' If the answer is 'Yes' (even if it's a 'Yes, but...') then we should be happy. Personally, I think it's a great signing. He's not going to come in with the pressure of being the one to 'fix' us. He can come in, as a Premier League-proven player, do his thing, and make us a better team.

Feels like the first signing in ages made with the intention of making the team play better rather than making the team score more or concede less if that makes sense. If nothing else it’s surely going to be better to watch this year than the last five.

In some ways we're probably overthinking in terms of trying to label what his nominal position will be when really football is more fluid and dynamic than that. We don't even know how ETH plans to set-up, let alone what part of that set-up is earmarked for Eriksen.

What we can say right now is that he will definitely improve us is the central area of the pitch. What nominal starting position he does that from and how he interacts positionally with other players in the team, we'll have to wait and see as there are different waye it could work.

But generally speaking improvement in that area was much needed. And if we add FDJ as well we will have heavily improved in that area in terms of our ability to play possession football.

I'm baffled why some people aren't happy about this. Quite a good chance he will be our best midfielder, almost a certainty that he will at least be a solid squad player. Great experience, great pro, nice bloke, versatile, on a free. Bizarre to have any complaints in my book.
