A lot of other clubs he could go to if he was just after more cash than Spurs are offering. Juve, Bayern, RM, Barca, PSG. Levy will sell him abroad I would imagine.

Dier? Average footballer that offers nothing going forward. When he first moved into midfield from CB there were hopes he could grow his game but he plateaued and never really improved his passing or composure on the ball. He has his uses, a good player to have in the trenches when your team is under the pump and you want a hard tackling DM. Screening the CB's, tracking runners from midfield and breaking up play etc.

Bench player at most however, the kind of player you bring on at 2-0 up to secure the midfield. Or away at Barcelona and you want some physicality in midfield to break up play and you know you will not be seeing much of the ball.

In the case of Eriksen he wasnt United material early in his career. Was notoriously inconsistent and went missing in games, as most young players do. Spurs have the option to buy that rough diamond because the expectation is different. Fans are happy to give players time to grow because they know the club cannot go out and splash 150mil in consecutive xfer windows on players. For United the expectation is different, just look how much of a schlacking Rashford cops in the player performance sub forum. It's like people forget he is 21 or something and want instant success.
Still better than Matic, ironically

It would be nice if we picked these players up earlier in there careers.

Eriksen from Ajax, Sanchez fro Udinese, Ibra from Ajax

We always seem to go for them too late

I think we tried but he prefered to go to Barcelona. All worked out eventually... we got him now, its just too bad he isnt as good as he was at Barcelona/Arsenal anymore.

Absolute class of a player, I would love him in a United shirt. Never should have let him go to Spurs in the first place, but the story of our shambolic management.

Yeah. Spurs signed him for like 11m on a deadline day. He was in that Ajax team that tore us into a new one at OT. Whatever our scouts are smoking, i would like to have it

I did not claim anything. I quoted CIES which is IMO the most reliable player when transfer values. Its called making an argument and providing basics for it.
You claimed that no one would pay double what we paid for Martial without providing any basics for that claim.
You see the difference? No, of course you dont.

You said "Martial is probably worth twice what we paid for him today".

You've paid £46.5m for Martial so far. Double that is £93m. The CIES valuation - for whatever it's worth - says 70 - 90m euros .... so even at the top end that's less than £78m, and only £60.5m at the bottom end.

So your claim is refuted by the very source CIES that you quote ... that's not what I'd call "making an argument and providing basics for it".

How we look at wages will be revamped this summer when Eriksen, De Gea and Hazard signs new contracts. There is no way that either of them signs for less than 350k a week.

No-one is going to offer Eriksen £350k per week.

I think his future very much depends on whether Real Madrid get Pogba or not.

Not room for both Casemiro, Kroos, Pogba, Eriksen and then Hazard + their other wings/strikers.. Kroos would have to go then.

And one last thing. This would be true in a settled market. But the European football market is not. Its my entire point. If you bought a promising young player two or three years ago: He is worth more today just due to the market inflating. We could sell Pogba and Martial this summer and make a net profit on them offsetting the wages we have paid them even. And its not like those two has performed or "developed". The opposite probably.

We bought Victor Janssen less than 3 years ago for £19.9m, aged 21. He'd just been awarded the 2016 Johan Cruyff Trophy, the Dutch "Talent of the Year" award.

His current market value is way less than what we paid for him.

Moreover, your argument assumes that the market bubble will never burst, but just keep on rising. That's what's all those caught up in the bubble-hype believe ... until the day it does burst.

Yes, Vertonghen also. In theory very easy transfers that would have made our team so much better.

Big differences between Janssen and Eriksen when they left the eredivisie. Eriksen had played 100+ games for Ajax, including CL games. Was a well established name, had a hand in Ajax winning 3 league titles. He was seen as being ready for the next step. Janssen had just played 1 season in the eredivisie, and not even at one of the top clubs. Most people thought his move to Tottenham was very risky and too quick, and that he should have went to Ajax or PSV first.

True. I'm not comparing the two players. I'm simply saying that, contrary to what @Johan07 claimed, not every promising young bought player two or three years ago is worth more today just due to the market inflating.

Yeah, this was during a short period of time when Ajax were recovering from financial problems, and were basically forced to sell Eriksen and Vertonghen for low prices because they only had 1 year left on their contracts. Tottenham were smart to take advantage of that.

Not worth it. Even if there's a chance Spurs will sell to us, the negotiations will take all summer and he's cost more than £60m. United should put recruitment efforts into improving as many positions as possible. Forget about star players until we have a team of excellent, hard-working, players. I'd rather see United recruit 6 players this summer for ~ £33m each & sell or, loan out, more of our so-so players. The only essential summer recruitment is a Football CEO, or, at least, DoF.

I think he should be our number one target after centreback and right wing. A huge issue we’ve had is that when Pogba is manmarked out of a game, the other midfielders can’t step up to offer creativity. Not only that but Eriksen knows how to control a game, something that’s never really been Pogba’s game.

We need quality not hard work. We lack both. Eriksen is both.

Spurs apparently want £60 million for Eriksen. We should do that deal in a fecking heartbeat.

He's definitely worth 60m. So no problem. Just don't think they will sell him to a direct competitor

That's fecking incredible. Just wouldn't happen if Man Utd come calling.

Pogba is also, you know, better.

I said i wouldn’t swap them so I thought that went without saying who the better players is. But the traditionalist will disagree because of Eriksen’s lack of star status.

The thing is, Eriksen is both excellent and hard-working. He’d be a brilliant signing for whichever club that gets him if he moves. Frankly, I don’t think United is in contention, as I’m sure if he moves, he’d go to win trophies or at least be in contention. And right now United aren’t that and there are a few question marks whether you will next season or the one after that.

Not really. It was a different time then, before most of the insane prices being quoted. Ask Ajax now to sell you a similar player (though not as good imho) in Ziyech and they probably wouldn't even consider anything less than 35m. Doesn't matter if it's Spurs or United.

So then, 35 for Spurs and 50 plus for Utd. Principle holds.

The thing is, Eriksen is NOT a gamble. We all know how effective and well he already works in the premier league.

If we had anything about ourselves we would sell pogba and get Eriksen and Hazard who both have a measley year on their contracts.
Sell Pogz for 100m buy Eriksen and Hazard for 80m each sold.
Ed if your reading hire me as DOF you tight penny pinching bastard :)

But you can't get him for £60m

Do Spurs fans actually read their posts when they type them. Most of you guys have your heads so far up your backside that everything you write is shite. I mean this thread is a possible link with Eriksen, yet you post like you're Levy himself! You've got no idea, but you put your opinions across as facts. It's amazing how often you guys do that

Martial takes a pay cut to join Spurs and Spurs won't sell us anyone until Martial takes a pay cut. Silly Spurs fans.

Fecking hell, he's worth double that.
He is; if he had two or three years left on his contract he would be 100m plus on the market. Now its one year left and Spurs will struggle to get 50m for him this summer. Its not as he is going to be cheaper though. What a buying club will save in transfer fee will go towards his wages and/or sign-on fee instead. Thats why why he easily will command 350k a week this summer. Its simple math really, even if a certain Spurs-supporter here is still living in denial about it.
