Not going to argue about right person as I’m unsure myself but we need more 26-29 year old players in there prime as we have quality youngsters just need experience to guide them

If we sign eriksen, we would need a creative right winger. Eriksen is more of a dictative attacking midfielder. He will help us keep possession better, but with him, we would need our attack and full backs to be able to craft out chances for themselves. He is creative, but he tends to drop deep into midfield, and so would not be perfect support for martial. I would still want him. With pogba, he would be dangerous. But it would mean that we may have to rethink the way we set up. Currently the attacking midfieler ( although ineffective) is supposed to be more of a support for the striker than midfield.
We can either go 4-3-3 with Pogba and him in front of a holding midfielder - Pogba will be more attacking of the two with Eriksen dictating things in midfield. Or we can still do a 4-2-3-1 with Eriksen deep and Pogba as the attacking midfielder. We do need a strong holding midfielder though; I doubt Fred can do that role on his own.
Of course he will. He's the best young player Pep has ever worked with after all!
I wouldn't have a problem going for him on a free in the summer if it didn't affect signing anyone else in that position such as Maddison/Grealish, surely if we are only paying his wages then it should not affect what else we do in that AM role but I suspect that Utd have no intention of bringing in more than one.
On a free he would be an amazing signing and still in his prime. I see him as more a Pogba replacement that would free up funds for a static Matic replacement. ( not that we should need to free up funds....)
Absolutely a must sign. If he doesn't want to come fair enough but we will definitely and quite rightly be in for him both in January and the summer cause he is class and would improve us immeasurably. His quality especially when missing pogba is what's costing us when teams sit deep against us. Watch his assist for Tottenham for deli Alli when coming on as sub

With all the fuss they put us through with players like Rooney I never know why we never try sneak a good contract in to Foden's face just to unsettle the guy & tell him he isn't getting enough games at the same time.
Always felt United were the good guys of the transfers unfortunately for us.
Guy is a very good player and considering his contract is up at the end of the season he does represent a good opportunity for a shrewd bargain. At 27 he is not that old actually considering that it feels like he has been around for a long time and would give us some much needed quality in that age group which we somewhat lack at present. But i'm just skeptical of us signing creative AMs considering our travails first with Anderson and then Mata and Kagawa. We don't seem a good fit for them generally and/or don't know know how to get the best out of them and on a free we will need to pay him well on a 4 year contract at least which means we have to hold onto him for the entirety of that period. It all depends on his motivation and how badly he wants to come here, if it is true that he rejected us in the summer i think we should not prioritize him.
He's 461 games old. Got maybe one or two seasons left at the top level.

Na, Sanchez was running the show away v Chelsea a few weeks before we signed him. Came on as a sub and they couldnt get near him.
This is 18 months for Eriksen at this rate. He really has been below his level for some time now

He wouldnt join us. On a free, better clubs will be interested, even if not necessarily his dream clubs Real or Barca. But Juve and PSG would be enough to have limited chances.
He is 28 in a couple of months and if we sign him in the summer he'll be 29 after being at the club six months so it's a bit misleading to say he's 27 like he has around 3 years until 30 when it's 1.5.
Not that I'm against signing him. Just saying he'll be 29 in 6 months after we've signed him. Some other posts are saying "Damn, he's just 27".
Other clubs and ourselves are well aware of his actual age so are probably hesitant to go in with a bid. He should've moved one or two seasons ago, that way clubs have more confidence of offering a longer contract. It's probably hard to offer a bumper 4 year deal in the summer to someone who will be 29 after hardly being there. Will be interesting who picks him up and what deal he gets.

My actual first though as well however I did a quick check and Messi never worked with Pep as a youngster. He was promoted to the first team under Frank Rijkaard in 2003. And Pep at that time was busy playing at Brescia.
Totally the wrong profile of player for us. If we sign him you might as well just throw out everything Ole (and Ed) has been briefing for the past year.

His form for the last year has been terrible. A 28 year-old can't just turn that back on again with a transfer, especially a central midfielder in the premier league. Look around, that's not a position that's forgiving of energy and stamina.

Id take him if the money was reasonable. He is a good player and you do need good players. Him in Mata out would be good business eh ?

I wonder if he'll eventually get pushed into a deep lying playmaker role a la Pirlo? He certainly has all the tools for it.
Serie A would be a top choice for him as he'll be less reliant on the physical side of his game, which is clearly a problem in the Prem.

He’s not as good as Pogba but you just know we will sell Paul, sign Eriksen for free and make him our marquee signing in the summer
Admire him so much as a player and I think it's nonsense to suggest this bad season is some kind of inevitable decline. All that said, he doesn't suit us and I wouldn't take him even at a sensible price. If he was actually going for cheap, then I'd have him as a Mata replacement on the bench, but otherwise I'd worry we'd end up seeing him as a suitable Pogba replacement, which he definitively is not.

Sanchez clearly lost it for arsenal before we bought him whilst Eriksen is still performing. I'm starting to think it would be unfair and stupid to belittle Eriksen for Sanchez's career.
Eriksen was someone who was good for ajax but took a stepping stone move to spurs - maybe didn't have interest - but possibly didn't move at the right time either.

Screams Mata and Sanchez to me. He may be very gifted but there's always more pleasure from players that have many years left in the tank to build a legacy at the club. Guys like Grealish naturally sound more appealing right now.
It makes no fecking sense, he rejects United where he fills in perfectly at his best position and now in negotiations with Inter although they are also in the Europa league and surely can't offer him the same wages. I guess he just wants to be somewhere warmer at this point.
I would absolutely go for him. Should be available for something around 25-30 Mio now and in this market this is a good opportunity.

Totally agree......he wants sunshine not rain - Italy will be perfect for him - don’t see any of the big teams signing him from Spain as not quite the player they’d want - He can choose soon and get a nice big fat signing on fee.....he would only be joining us if all else fails and for a big payday - ie Sanchez v2.0

The only way he joins us is if we offer him a stupid load of money, but will he be motivated to play and give his all?
I'm fed up of mercinarys. He's a top player but if his heart isn't in it then forget it. We need people with the heart of Mctominay but the skill of Eriksen.

28th birthday is next month.
Maybe try to imagine it's Aug with this extremely remote possibility we're in negotiations with Eriksen, we'll be signing a player who is 28 and half years old who will turn 29 after being at OT for 6 months.
We'll see what happens, I doubt anyone is buying him in Jan and he's probably looking at picking up a title in France, Italy or Spain by being a free squad player. Would be a hard slog at United in the PL.

Technical play makers tend to peak once they get into their late 20's and early 30's. E.g. Modric only moved to Madrid a week or so before his 27th birthday and won the Ballon D'Or when he was 33. Eriksen's game isn't reliant too heavily on pace and physicality so I wouldn't expect him to decline for a good few years yet.
I'm not saying Eriksen is as good as Modric but signing someone who is still to turn 28, especially a play maker, isn't the worst thing.
Eriksen seems like he wanted to see the contract out to get his big signing on fee/wage increase with a new club but nothing really changes in that aspect if he we to leave this window. Teams can still offer him that.

I agree he has a tonne of miles on the clock.
I also think the Man Utd project is one currently which needs to be sold to young players with time on their sides, with the aim of building something they can buy into. I don't see players 26+ going for United in their current situation, it's the young ones who will buy into the project and believe the team can win the title in 2 years time who Ole will, I believe, be looking at, because given United's current situation they're the only ones who are going to want to come until you get to 32 year olds looking for a last hurrah.
