Chris Samba

No doubt he'll still be picking up a very generous pay packet whilst refusing to play.

It's not that he believed they'd sign Ronaldinho. That's not the point. It's that they said they would and didn't. Doesn't matter if you believe them or not it's that they said it in the first place and that was their way to keep you happy.

This lad has just been added to my 'cnut' list.

What a fecking dickhead!!!! I cannot stand it when I hear footballers coming out with statements like this. ANY other 'profession' in the world and you'd be disciplined if you publicly stated that you could not give 100% anymore. Admittedly, it is not a direct comparison of jobs but do this fecking players not realise what a privilege it is to do what they do.

Absolutely ridiculous point of view from Samba

How sore you are. Privilege? Only privilege he's experienced is that his parents migrated to France so he was born there instead of in Africa.

He's much better than you at football. He's much better at it than most people in the world. That's why he's playing professionally with Blackburn. And he isn't lazy about it either.

Is being a congressman and complaining about the government also cnutish because he has the privilege to try and change it? Or does this only apply to sports.

My blackburn supporting mates think he deserves to leave. I think the fact he signed a new contract showed he was willing to stay if some ambition was shown, his original view of the owners was right but he gave them a chance.

Normally I hate players doing this but under the circumstances I don't blame him at all.

Blackburn will be fecked if he leaves, how are they supposed to survive this season?

Transfer window is open in Russia until tomorrow.

The russian transfer window is still open.

Ahh right.

The transfer fee will be even 12m according to the Daily Telegraph

Blackburn Rovers defender Christopher Samba joining Anzhi Makhachkala in £12million deal

Thursday night was the deadline for the closure of the Russian transfer window, which stays open longer than the rest of Europe. It means that the move is the biggest involving a Premier League club during the mid-season window.
Talks have progressed between Blackburn and Anzhi over the past few days, with Samba desperate to leave the Premier League club, having submitted a transfer request in January in the hope of moving to Queens Park Rangers or, possibly, Tottenham, who eventually signed his former team-mate Ryan Nelsen on a free transfer after his contract was cancelled.
Samba’s transfer request was rejected by Blackburn, who insisted that the club captain was not for sale, but it is understood that there was always a valuation which, if met, would lead to Samba’s departure. Blackburn wanted £15 million but have now accepted £12 million.
Although the 27-year-old Congo international has not played for Blackburn since their 2-1 defeat against Stoke City on Jan 2, the club’s supporters had hoped that he would be reintegrated into the side to help stave off the threat of relegation.
Samba made it clear, however, that he had no intention of playing for Blackburn again, insisting it was time for him to face a “new challenge” and criticising the club’s owners and the lack of progress being made. He has claimed to have suffered from a series of setbacks and injuries in recent weeks.

This prompted a response from Blackburn manager Steve Kean, who said, “he’s not for sale, as simply as that”. The club remarked that Samba, who joined five years ago from Hertha Berlin for a fee of only £400,000, had signed a new deal only last year and was contracted until 2015.
Samba’s departure will anger Blackburn supporters, who had hoped that the closure of the window meant he would stay, at least for now. They are deeply concerned at the apparent draining of talent, and lack of investment, at the club. Junior Hoilett is also expected to depart this summer when his contract expires.
Blackburn are 17th in the Premier League, having hauled themselves out of the relegation places although only goal difference separates them from the bottom three . They face league leaders Manchester City away tomorrow.
Anzhi have just appointed Guus Hiddink as their new coach and are determined, with the backing of billionaire owner Suleyman Kerimov, to become a force in European football. The club have also discussed a move for Arsenal’s Andrei Arshavin but the midfielder is understood to be resistant to the move.
Samba, however, is keen to join Anzhi, who will vastly increase his wages.
He will join players such as Brazil’s World Cup 2002 winner Roberto Carlos, former Chelsea full-back Yuri Zhirkov and striker Samuel Eto’o at Anzhi, who are seventh in the Russian Premier League. Hiddink’s first match in charge is on March 5 against Dynamo Moscow when the season recommences after the winter break.

So the owners bought Blackburn for 40m. Sold Jones and Samba for 30m.
Not that stupid after all...

Poor timing... Not that they stood a chance against City anyway, mind you.

£12m - if true - is fantastic money for Samba. Problem is, they can't spend it.

If they can just squeak staying up which they might, they could be safe enough next year.

The defence is pretty shocking now though - losing Samba is one thing, but Nelsen as well... hm.

Good deal, but is £12m really that good when it could cost Blackburn a lot more in the long term, by getting them relegated?

Its not just against City, they should worry about but staying up is their bigger problem. Last 5 teams are separated by 2 points. I still think they will be relegated.

Wow, what a fecking shambles that club is. So Blackburn have sold Jones and Samba and let Nelson go, do they have any centre backs left?

Why is it a shambles? Player like these always move on from mediocre clubs, unless it's an odd case like Le Tissier. Essentially every club not in the top 6 is a feeder club when it comes to their very best players.

he wasn't going to play so the deal at 12m for someone who wants out is good money. with or witout him they could go down.

I don't understand black players who go to play in Russia (specifically when they're talented enough to play elsewhere) and complain about racism.

Yep, it baffles me. Obviously they have a right to complain but they knew what they were getting in to. Russia sounds like a horrible country at the moment.

Me niether. It's horrible that it happens there, and it should not be swept under the carpet or excused, but it is also well documented. I can't see why any black player would want to play in Russia, of course they should be able to without any problems whatsoever, but the known reality is that just isn't the case, so why bother?

Yeah, I don't agree...Racism is racism, location is irrelevant

Change...Not the Obama kind but real change :smirk:

Sure, Samba took the cash but it wasn't like he didn't try to push for a move earlier - Blackburn never relented to his wishes...When the move came, why not do the best you can for yourself, right?

As for knowingly going into a racism environment, how else will things ever change?...I imagine the multicultural emergence of Anzhi is an opportunity to not only raise the profile of the Russian league but also sheds light on problems that need addressing

Of course, racism continues in Spain and the RFEF giving out €600 fines doesn't help change anything...Hopefully the Russian federation will do better on that front

Just think that racism being prevalent shouldn't be a reason for someone of color to avoid certain locales as result...World is getting smaller

I'm black myself, if I was a pro footballer (Samba was a good player tbh) I'd choose a place where the football was challenging and the living will be alright.
You know for a fact that there is a 99.99% chance of getting racially abused in Russia but you still go there ?? It doesn't compute for me, I guess the money he earns is enough for him to be abused but then again what's the point of complaining ?
I'd either avoid Russia and similar places or play there and not complain.

Samba is an interesting player to me, not just because of his abilities on the pitch but he's bright, articulate & chalk full of integrity...He has a Thuram way about him

Born in France to Congolese parents, he opted to play for Congo rather than France due to treatment he received in France because of his race...His path to professional football is an interesting one...I commend him for it because it's a tough decision to choose Congo over Les Bleus in world footy, IMHO...For me, a player of that ilk marches to the beat of his own conscience...QPR fans, I understand, loved him for his high character as well as his play...In particular, I liked how he responded to the incident in Russia

I have a few close friends who are black from West & East Africa...Talking race issues with them is different than talking with my African American friends back home...I imagine it has something to do with making it as an African footballer that reinforces the notion that anything is possible and no hurdle is too great...At the end of the day, you make the decisions that are best for you...Samu is on the same team and is no less a player who marches to the beat of his own conscience, particularly in matters of race...High character players like that, I believe it's incumbent upon them to take a stand

I'm white but I suppose if I were black, I'd be no less passionate about that point

That's like saying: Don't step out at night because you might get mugged. Or don't wear skimpy clothes else you might get raped. Russia is a part of FIFA. They have to provide a non racist environment to footballers to play in.

The problem here is FIFa not stepping in and telling the Russian FA to take major steps or feck off.

An Anzhi spokesman confirmed: 'A banana came down at Samba from the VIP section

Its not even the uneducated poor man..

Yeah completely agree. I find is bizzare that FIFA are so weak when it comes to enforcing sanctions for racism, surely it's something 99.99% of football would get behind so it could only put them in a better light. From a P.R perspective Blatter and FIFA have taken quite a battering in recent years, so I'm surprised they haven't jumped at the chance to restore some credibility.

It's not just FIFA. It's also UEFA. They could hand out fines and stop the teams from taking part in European competitions.
