Do you consider him to be a possible buy for us at the end of the season?
Ajax ain`t gonna sell him for less than $ 20 000 000 though. Is the young, mobile, steady Romanian defender worth that dough? He`s a charismatic figure at Ajax at his very young age.We really need a defender of his level. Will Fergie fork out?Real wanna get Chivu too. Will our potential player be snapped up again by Juve ,Milan or Real or we`ll finally land a player we need?

He is an excellent young defender, very steady and good on the ball.
But O'Shea looks like being a long term partner for Rio, so I can't see us investing big in another CB, maybe an older one with good experience; four CB's seems a good number, assuming Blanc retires of course.

I don't see Chivu, or Mexes coming to OT alas. Maybe a couple of fullbacks, though the Boca Juniors RB(confirmed target) didn't look that great to me in last weeks game. Coly, the Senegal/Lens RB would be far better IMO.

Burdisso? Question marks appear over every south american target especially if he isn't top drawer material.

Coly? Experienced in europe and for my money, one of the outstanding full-backs in both the African Nation's Cup and the WC. He's certainly most welcome at OT.

I was saying this about Chivu over a year ago and was ignored  :p

We don't need another CB. I'd guess we'll follow up on Escude in the summer and that'll be it defensively.

Give O'Shea a chance before you write him off in favour of a player who's only played in the weak as piss Dutch league though eh?

I'd prefer Mexes over Chivu also, though both are class.

Mexes/Rio would be the envy of any club; both have great balance and agility, and superb technique on the ball(esp. Mexes).

But, if O'Shea continues the way he is playing, It will be very hard to justify spending 15mil? on another CB, when one of our own is already doing the job. Didn't SAF say not so long ago that he could see O'Shea and Rio as next seasons partnership. If there was no evident successor to Blanc then we'd have good reason to go after Mexes, but O'Shea is looking the part at this point.

And despite SAFs' long term interest in Mexes, the bottom line is; At the time he becomes available, do we really need him and then does he want to come?

i thought Chivu can also play on the left? he would be a perfect replacement for Silvestre (if silvestre in no long in the plans).

If he is used in the center then Rio/Chivu will be a great partnership with JOS in rotation. Wes will concontrate solely on rotating for Gaz.

I think Chivu is the ultimate answer to our question of what to do when Blanc finally retires.

Chivu is a world class defender who can play on the left and in the heart of the defense. He is the answer to our prayers

RVN,Stam,Davids,Ronaldo played in this weak as piss Dutch league not to mention Barca`s Dutch force.
And they are big names in world footy now.

David Beckham supposedly doesnt get along with him. so its unlikely SAF will sign him. <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" /> <img src="graemlins/houllier.gif" border="0" alt="[Houllier]" /> <img src="graemlins/nono.gif" border="0" alt="[No No]" /> :p

Yep, fair point. I still say O'Shea will do thanks.

I'd like to

Barthez

JOS - Rio - Mexes - Chivu

Becks - Keane - Scholes - Giggs

RVN - Totti

Now theres a team to rule Europe!

Hey Laura, my feelings have recovered now! I think it was the GM carrotts that did something to me ;)

Not mad on JOS at RB <img src="graemlins/nono.gif" border="0" alt="[No No]" /> Totti up front with RVN...now thats a dream!!!!!!!!!

I've seen him play a few times and i have to say i've been impressed. He looks confident on the ball and his distribution is good. He can play at Left back and Centre back although i think he prefers the centre. He'd be an excellent signing in my opinion but i would like to see us paying through the nose for him.

Didn't Koeman hint that he expected Chivu to be on his way soon. Another sign; Ajax have signed or are about to sign a young finnish CB called Ponce.

I dont think we need him, we have JOS who is a great prospect and on fire at the moment, id like to see him starting ahead of Blanc, I would like Mexes in the summer though!

Coly would be a good signing as well i think, a LB would be nice too!

I really have to say Chivu is one of the best players in the Dutch league.
The defense of Ajakkes is really weak and it's quite brilliant if you see how solid they are WITH Chivu. The only weakness of him is the amount of red cards he gets. This doesn't mean he is just an 'angry' player like Davids, but sometimes strikes can get past him very easily and then he needs to take them down. This has happened about 5 times the last few years... (and 2 times last week)
I think he would be a great player in the ManUtd squad, because then he would have a team around him on which he can rely on, when he sleeps in for a second...

Chivu can play left back or cantre back, why buy 2 players when he can either, and better than most

lets buy both chivu and mexes and anyone who is young and talented

we need youth and these players can give it to us and bring back euro glory

Exactly.

I saw him playing for Romania at Euro 2000.He was really brilliant. His steady perfomance in Belgium and Holland made him a target for lots clubs.

Lazio peeps were in Amsterdam a couple of months back `cause they still wanna find a replacement for Nesta. But his transfer price seemed to them to be too high. They can`t afford him atm.
But Real won`t get poorer if they`ll spend 20 000 000$ on a good defender.

So we`ve got a tough rival. We must buy him.

That coly guy will do me, we need some tough, good africans in our team and get rid of sh*t like fortune!!.
