Chess followers - Magnus Carlsen

Looks grim for Carlsen now, and funnily (or not) it has nothing to do with the positions on the boards.. It's the time that's all what matters at the moment!

I have no idea what's going on at Chessbomb now. Carlsen and Ivanchuk must have moved, or they would have lost on time.

And in other news, Ivanchuk has made the time control as well (with 32 seconds to spare) and it looks like he's winning as well!!! Incredible!

The positions at the time control (for the record):

Looks like both leaders are lost.

Any place where I can just track these games? I don't want any commentary or anything

Carlsen lost. Kramnik losing to Ivanchuk as well.

All those crying about fixing when Chucky beat Carlsen made to look silly now.

What a final two days!

Bring on Carlsen-Anand now!

Probably I'd be leaning towards Anand, but if Carlsen wins it then he's definitely a worthy winner..

By the way, I think Anand handles pressure better than Carlsen, which could be a factor in their match..

Insane. Ivanchuk needs some sort of weirdo award. Kramnik hides his disappointment well in the press conference.

This tournamen is Ivanchuk in a nutshell. He is a game raising cnut!!

I agree.
He's good though, you can't deny it.

If he hadn't lost on time in so many games (5 or 6 I think) he would have been a contender..

Also what a comeback by Svidler.. If he'd drawn his first game against Carlsen he would have won it. not sure he would have managed the same comeback under those circumstances though.. Take today for example!

I think what this tournament really showed is that Carlsen isn't that far ahead of the pack. Does he have any matchplay experience?

Absolutely. I think Anand has every chance against him..

I hope so. I loved Anand when he was younger and was attacking. Now he has a more balanced style and has focused solely on match play since becoming champion. I'm half hoping that he loses and focuses on tournaments again, but he is getting on in age so I doubt he will be a force there again.

What a tournament... I'm not even a chess player, and have been teaching myself, not understanding most of the moves, and was very interested in this.

Having little understanding of the game, I think Carlsen is the best player today, and even if not so ahead of the pack today, he's just so young, that if he doesn't break mentally he can reach unprecedented levels.

His endgames are just unbelievable. Even at -1 at an end game, in 95% of the times he won't lose.

I read his interview, and along with Kramnik, I got that this tournament was so tiresome especially for this two going head to head, that in the end Carlsen said he was stressed so much mentally that he couldn't think in so much basic plays near the end. Which could explain his and Kramnik dips in form.

I'm happy that we can see Anand x Carlsen, Kramnik would been a great draw. But with Carlsen with got much more to expect in this match.

Svidler had a great, and to certain level, unexpected tournament. Did very, very well...

I think this was the most watched candidates in years, wasn't it? Truly exciting, especially in this last rounds.

I reading some people, saying he can truly be the new Capablanca. Why is that?

style of play. Capa was a genius. Alekhine ducked him like made to avoid a rematch after he beat him for the title. Carlsen does not focus on openings because his middlegame and endgame was so strong. Capa didn't NEED openings. I love studying his games - simply beautiful.

Defensive/polite/mindgaming/Kasparov-bashing comments from Anand: "I have to sit down and figure out how to play against someone that good. I don't know how to do that yet. Magnus is the best player I've ever seen in action."

Kasparav and Anand share an interesting relationship. They got on well initially, then didn't like each other too much and are now apparently friends again now that Kasparav has retired.

Doubt it would be Kasparav bashing.

That being said, I enjoyed Kasparov's games a lot more than Carlsen.

Carlsen's form has been a bit crap lately (he finished second in a tournament!), but he beat Anand in 29 moves today in their last meeting before the WC match.

it was a shit game, and I still don't fully understand the resignation to be honest... I'll have to analyze later

He seems to automatically resign against Carlsen if Chessbomb's evaluation reaches +2 (see Bilbao last year).

Let's hope he doesn't have that policy in the championship..

Vishy hasn't had good results this year... I hope age isn't finally catching up to him, but Carlsen will probably never have an easier chance.

His last game against Vishy in Tal memorial before the big one/s in November.

Anand is a match player only now.. He keeps all his innovations for the World Title games. That being said, I think Carlsen will beat him.. Hopefully that lets Vishy focus on tourneys again.
