Cheltenham Festival

I'm mulling over the following, give or take. It can only get better after yesterday's wipe out, hopefully.

13:30 - The Holliinwell

14:05 - Ainama

14:40 - Albertas Run

15:20 - Big Bucks

16:00 - My Petra

Thursday:

2.40 Planet of Sound (Each way) and Tranquil Sea
3.20 Karabak (in the market without the favourite, or each way)

In the Ryanair I like Tranquil Sea. He won the Paddy Power at Cheltenham in November but for some reason the horse he beat that day Poquelin has always been shorter in the betting. I put that down to Paul Nicholls being the trainer. This has been a race that for awhile i've been totally against a number of the runners. Barber's Shop, Voy Por Ustedes and Schinder's Hunt are animals I couldn't really have at any price. One in double figures I do like is Planet of Sound. Third in the Arkle last year he ran a really eye-catching second giving weight to Albertas Run when stepped up in trip in November and I thought then that he'd be a Ryanair horse. Unfortunately he is a horse that makes the odd mistake and indeed he fell when favourite for a race last month. From a talent point of view he's with the best in this and for me his error prown profile is factored into his price.
In the World Hurdle i really cannot oppose Big Bucks. He's the most solid of all Nicholls hot pots this year. But in the market without him I really like Karabak. For me he's easily the second best horse in the race.
In his last three starts he has finished second to Big Bucks, Zaynar over a trip that suited the Henderson aninal more and the top class Mikael D'Haguenet in the Baring Bingham at last year's festival. It takes a really top notch animal to beat him and for me after Big Bucks there isn't much in the race to fear. Tiday Bay in particular won an awful race last time and is way too short.

Schindlers Hunt 14.40 today absolute banker of the meeting,I was given this tip by a jockey who I gave a lift to the course yesterday. Not a huge betting fan but he said to me that this horse is near certain as is possible to be a winner today.

I can't resist shite like this, i'll just have a quick scout to see if it isn't a complete donkey then no doubt back it

Another day when only one favourite wins!

Two of my three: Tranquil Sea and Sonnyhillboy failed to win, but my other selection Albertas Run won at 14 to 1. Get in.:D

Friday I'm doing:

1.30 Advisor or Carlito Bregante (can't decide which to do yet)
2.40 The Betchworth Kid e/w
3.20 Imperial Commander (hopfully Kauto Star will have an off day). :nervous:

You'll need Denman and Cooldine to have one also for him to win.

Denman didn't look up to much last time out.

Don't forget Imperial Commander performs well at Cheltenham, with wins in the Paddy Power and Ryanair Chase.

He also gave Kauto Star a big scare when just edged out by the champ at Haydock.

Oh My Petra, why oh why couldn't you have finished in the top 5 at least.

After Albertas Run and Big Bucks the trebel would have been sealed and a nice one at that.

Friday:

3.20 Denman and Cooldine

I'm a massive Denman fan and I have to stay loyal to him today. He's out to 5/1 on Betfair and that is too big. His Hennessy win was pretty amazing off 174 and I just hope his fall at Newbury hasn't left any scars. I think the big meeting's wake him up however and I remain hopeful. The drying ground is only an issue in that a more severe test is more in his favour than Kauto Star's but he does act on a fast surface. Kauto Star is the best National Hunt horse to have run for forty years but it's always been my opinion that he is vulnerable at Cheltenham when they go a decent clip. In 2008 he made mistakes on the first circuit before Denman put it too him and in 2006 he actually fell in the two mile Champion Chase when favourite. He's certainly not as much of a cert as Big Bucks was yesterday. I've also backed Cooldine at 14s as a fast run race on this decent ground will suit.

theres no stopping Kauto imo, Denman will give it the beans but surely Mccoy will be sore after his 2 tumbles yesterday. Imperial Commander is my outside bet

Now I'm not one for saying I told you so . . . but 8 to 1 and I had £20 on him. :D:D

Imperial Commander with an imperious finish, stormed home.

Well done Eric btw!

Oh and who put a sneaky EW stake on Mon Mome @ 50/1 right at the last minute? :) A boost that after two days off nothing.

Graveyard thus far today

Balthazar King in the 440
Safari Journey and Oiseau De Nuit in the 515

Still up overall for the week but today certainly took the shine off.

Well done RHD. Drinks on you.....

Thanks man

Sorry about your loss today, still tho - you're up for the week so thats great & plus you had the excitement of it all, without losing a ton like many punters. I've only bet today, so i'm delighted to have won 2 - especially the Gold Cup!

Backed Balthazar King myself & Peveril also - straight wins both. Hopefully you can get a win & break your duck for the day - best of luck man!

Great Festival. Just the one proper winner (I did back Imperial Commander in running when Kauto fell though) but Sizing Europe and a few placed horses ensured a profitable week. It is mega tough finding winners though.

Nice one man - hope ypu stuck a good few squid on it?!

I was gonna back him aswell - purely on the name I have to admit. He was 33's aswell!

feck it, spent 40 euro today & won 121.00 euro - so very happy with that :D

I'm not the biggest gambler but that one winner more than covered the week gambling. Nice one. Apparently there was a fair few quid won in Dublin on it
