Finally, the wait is almost over. The hype surrounding the Festival seems to grow every year. There are more previews, we have Facebook and Twitter awash with tips and banter and we have the usual doubts about running plans for certain horses.

I've been ante-posting on this since June and I have good and bad bets and a few non runners to boot. In fact the count for the latter stands at around minus -£230 before we even kick off. Need a good start.

Tuesday
My best position is in the Supreme Novices Hurdle which opens the Festival where I have hot favourite My Tent or Yours at 12/1 and 10/1. I think he's nailed on and would be a contender for the Champion Hurdle. It's a race that's still worth getting involved in because Hills are paying five places. I have backed Un Atout with that concession in mind. He looks a proper chasing type with a good engine. The ground is likely to be soft now and that will suit him.

I'm not opposing Simonsig in the Arkle although I have a relatively small bet on Arvika Ligeonnaire who can outrun his price.

In the Champion Hurdle I'm against Hurricane Fly and I rate him as possibly the weakest favourite of the week. He lost his crown last season and I don't see him getting it back. He's most effective in a sprint finish type scenario and although there doesn't see a whole lot of pace in the race his opponents surely won't set it up for him. I actually make Zarkandar a fairly strong bet for this. He was never right last season once his yard succumbed to a bug just before the Festival but this term he's been rock solid. I love this animals attitude and fighting spirit and I think the uphill finish and a bit of juice in the ground will really suit him. 7/2 and 4/1 are fair prices in a race his main danger (imo) Grandouet has major bad vibes surrounding him. He's been all over the place on Betfair and has only one run this season. I backed him earlier in the year but doubt he can trouble the selection now.

The other race on the opening day that interests me in the Cross Country thing. I have two for this - Bostons Angel @ 12s and Shalimar Fromentro at a whopping 36/1. I backed the former thinking we would have decent ground but that isn't gonna happen now. The latter has had a few races in France on really deep ground in these sort of races and is overpriced.

The most wonderful time of the year!

You've a nice price on My Tent or Yours Nearco but that value is long gone now and he's making the market. I have to admit that on his breeding as well I think he's worth taking on. I've plumped for Melodic Rendezvous and any more rain wouldn't be a worry either. If trained by a more fashionable trainer he'd be half the price I think.

The Arkle is simple for me, Simonsig will annihilate them bar accidents I think he's a monster! Could see overturns heart being broken here and would fancy Avrika to follow him home if Sizing Europe goes for the Ryanair.

I'm a massive Grandouet fan but like yourself I'm worried about the interrupted prep. However I can't see where the pace will come from this year so I will probably end up backing him in the hope everything is a1. The fact Rock on Ruby is wearing blinkers suggests he might try make all
but I'm not sure.

I'll be backing Our Mick in the JLT but its ultra competitive as usual.

Une Artiste is probably the safest e/w shot of the week in the mares and that's where my money will be going.

The last race has a horse which really interests in the form of The Druids Nephew, he is ridiculously well handicapped on the form of his first run over fences and with improvement to come from going left handed I'm very hopeful!

Keep the write ups coming, for occasional horse gamblers like myself they pretty much inform the majority of my bets.

I only dick around with relatively small stake lucky 15's, but i love Cheltenham week.

Thankfully avoided ante post accumulators this year, good job as they would have featured Darlan. Had two bets so far, Daryl Jacob to be top jockey @ 40/1. Nicholls claims to have his horses in the best condition he's ever seen. Ruby Walsh will take more rides for Mullins this year, so Daryl could land a few winners.

The other bet is a double of Henderson top trainer and Barry Geraghty top jockey. Still can't believe I've been allowed it as a double.

I'll write up my picks for the rest of the week on monday because I'm going on the piss for the week!! Are you going to cheltenham Nearco?

Not this year. Looking forward to four heavenly days in front of the box.

Really liking Daryl Jacob recently - have also him as top jockey but small money. Will follow a lot of his rides for EW bets.

This generally works most days which is handy....

Im off for the week and heading on the piss. Enjoy gents and good luck...

£10 on Jezki first race

Coral offering Evs on Sprinter Sacre, maximum stake £20. Easiest £20 you will make all week surely

MTOY, Simonsig, Zarkander treble.

Lucky 15 on aswell, including Une Artiste as it appears fancied on here and RI.

Good luck all.

I've done a placepot for the following:

Jezki
Simonsig
Our Mick
Hurricane Fly
Arabella Boy
Quevega

I had a few quid left online. Said I'd try it for the laugh.

Can we avoid the after timing that can be seen in the football betting thread please.

Post up what you have before it wins FFS :D

Backing the favourites to win has had mixed results so far. Going a little more leftfield with Loch Ba EW next.

£20 merry king.

PP, planet of sound, merry king and our mick
JP, merry king & fruity o'rooney
S6, our mick & merry king.

OK, stuck a fiver e/w on Pete the Feat at 22/1 and €2 to win on Nadiya De La Vega 14/1. AP Mc Coy on board so you always have a chance.

That didn't work out too well for me. Loch Ba crashes out at the back of the pack.

Dang. Golden Chieftain had the longest odds and whooped them all. No idea where to go from here.

PP has a money back special if Huricane fly wins the CH. I might stick all my euros on Zarkander and I have two chances.

Champion hurdle,

PP, hurricane fly, zarkander & rock on ruby
S6 hurricane fly

£20 hurricane fly

I backed Hurricane Fly but not enough to make it feel like much of a win.

That's what you want from a favourite though. Came from behind and finished like a beast.
