Chelsea's England Under 19 defender Sam Hutchinson has retired through injury at the age of 21.
The highly-rated youngster suffered a reoccurrence of the knee trouble that affected his past three seasons and will work at the club’s academy while also studying sports science at university.
Hutchinson made his first-team debut in 2007, with then-manager Jose Mourinho describing him as a future permanent member of the Chelsea squad.
He was called into the England Under 21 set-up but the knee injury forced him to withdraw.
In total Hutchinson started one game for Chelsea and made three substitute appearances.
