Chelsea approach Leicester for Enzo Maresca

Not heard of this Lavia guy we're being linked with. Haven't seen him play. He any good?

I don’t blame you. It was one of those if you blinked you missed it kinda situation :)

I think if Leicester gets 10m for him and replace him with Potter, they probably won't care that much and be fine.
I don't see Potter going to Leicester . Bit of a come down for him.

I think it's a good fit. Plays similar style to Enzo and you're not really a yo-yo club, it's a good move back into management after Chelsea.

Absolutely bizarre appointment. I wasn't that impressed with Leicester's season, they just had better players than everyone else in the Championship.
They really didnt
Yes they paid by comparison huge wages but just look at their mainstay CDs, Faes and Vestegard . Dewesbery Hall maybe but I am not sure even he and certainly not Winks would get a gig at top half PL teams

Not feeling like they get into top half PL teams doesn't mean they're not still better than most Championship players though...

Come off it, their squad was far better.

Doing what they do with players. Amortising the cost over as long a period as possible.
It would only be the compensation that would be amortised and if the sum of between £8&10 million is right even adding in some agents fees won’t massively impact

They were said to be Leicesters” star” players. If you look at their squad it really isn’t all that even at Championship level. Leeds squad for instance was a country mile better in squad terms but failed and looking at Southampton I suspect that many of their players on a player by player basis rate higher that most of Leicesters

Leicester were favourites to win the Championship for a reason. It wasn't because of the manager.

Can't believe a premiership club is appointing someone who hasn't spent two years at Brighton first.

Terrible appointment by Chelsea if true. He had a Leicester squad that was miles better than anyone else in the division and ended up limping over the line when in reality they should have been breaking records. There are multiple managers in the Championship who are better and i wouldn't be suprised if Leicester fans are happy when they get good compensation and appoint someone like Potter.

I'd love to know the thinking behind this appointment. Chelsea can look forward to another mediocre season.

You know that how?
You are probably right to be fair but you would suspect that a lot of that was simply because they weren’t expecting relegation in 22/23 .

And yet they only had two players in the EFL team of the season. The keeper and Dewsberry Hall.

The consensus of the majority of the football world aside from @terraloo on Redcafe. Even the Leicester fans were expecting to sweep the league.

I get it, he's your new man and you want to big him up but let's not pretend he's done anything overly special.

just seen boehly at mcdonald’s, doing laps of the drive-thru, shouting out his window that he needs to speak to the manager.

Doesn't this just prove how poor a manager he is? Should have had that team performing to a point where multiple players were in team of the season

Leicester had a wage bill of £96m or something in the Championship, Leeds were second (and well clear of the rest of the league) with a bill circa £56m. Leicester should have been promoted a lot more easily than they were in the end.

@PepG , after keeping up with the Championship thread this season I believe you're a fan of his, right? Do you think he will do well?

Strange appointment and timing in my opinion.

Wouldn’t it have made more sense to let Poch finish his contract (only one year to go) whilst monitoring Maresca in his first season at the top table. Then move him in next summer whilst avoiding any payouts.

If we wanted someone with a strong personality, an obsessive possession style, and who is great with younger players I simply do not understand why we haven’t gone for De Zerbi who is right there and out of a job. Someone who has actually managed in the PL and who has already coached several of our players.

I just don’t get why we’d take such a massive gamble on this Maresca guy when our squad is right on the cusp of making the leap back to top 4.

Chelsea love a good payout though, at one stage I think they were paying 3 different managers to not turn up for work, even now I think they are still paying Potter.

I wouldnt say a fan but i liked his ideas and tactic throughout the season. I believe that he needs at least one season at the Premier League experience with Leicester before joining bigger club, but if he is joining Chelsea now its an opportunity. I am pretty sure that with better players his tactics would work well..

I have a feeling that De Zerbi has signed for someone else already.

This appointment is out of the left field. Was he really good with Leicester in the championship? What is his style of play? Look at Wiki, he seems to have come from the Pep school of coaching. May be that was the reason combined with his work with Leicester.

I honestly am not bigging him up I don’t know anywhere near enough about him but neither do the vast majority who are commenting on him.
Not sure I read anywhere that he was expected to sweep the league and yes Leicester were favourites. So did they win the league? Did they gain promotion?
To the point about Leicester fans expecting them to sweep the league. Try reading just the first dozen or so pages to realise that just was not the case at all

I think the owners fell out with Poch over the see piece coach, injuries and cup chokes.

I hope Maresca it works out but it seems quite a risky move.

I also think (nothing to back up this, though) that he was told that Gallagher and Chalobah were going to be sold, which he refused to accept. Hope I am wrong.

Depending on our upcoming points deduction we may be a yo-yo club.

Judging by the Foxes forum they are happy that he has gone. "One dimensional", "No plan B" are common comments. And they get a shed load of money.
Seems like a plan.
