Always been a massive fan of this guy, whoever he is.

strange that you already forgot who he is. he was fairly important in that Sevilla side with Alves, Navas, Keita, Kanoute etc.

Looks like Pep - tick
Low profile background - tick
Can be submissive to Boehly & minions - tick
Man City connections - tick

It's as if he was custom made for Chelsea.

Was surprising so much noise about the 2nd placed team in the Championship and very little about the winners. What's his style of play?

Very much hope I'm wrong but I just don't think this one will work out. One thing is for certain, if Maresca ends up a failure then the sporting directors in charge of the appointment must follow him out the door.

Looking at his previous experience, its kind of surprising he even swung the Leicester job. Not to say he hasn't done well since getting it.

Anyway, glad that Chelsea look like they're getting someone who we've not had under consideration.

Surprised by this. He should have comfortably finished top of the Championship with the squad at his disposal and they made hard work of it.

Wig sold separately. Sweeney Todd has got his man, that’s for sure.

Rumour has it Boehly wanted to keep Poch. Eghbali and the SDs wanted him out, and then Eghbali wanted De Zerbi but the SDs wanted Maresca. No idea if any of the above is true as we’re always bombarded with PR bombs when changes are happening at the club but if true, then yeah, the SDs will need to follow Maresca out of the club if it doesn’t work out.

Very risky appointment. I can’t say that I know much about him but I’d be concerned about a couple things.

A manager like this will definitely need patience even in the best case scenario. There is a big learning curve going to the PL, going to a big club like Chelsea, juggling European and league play, and learning all these things at the same time. I’m not sure he’ll get that patience though.

When you have such a thin resume, it’s tough to walk into a dressing room full of players who backed the last manager and didn’t want him sacked. I’m sure they’ll give him a chance, but he’ll have a lot to prove to his players.

I don't think Leicester will be too unhappy about this, can't argue with promotion but they should have done it more comfortably with that squad. A nice £10m bonus which helps their financial situation and if they can persuade someone like Potter to replace him they'll be in a better place.

checking his wiki he moved to the West Brom when he was 18, that must have been a hell of a culture shock for an italian kid

his managerial career looks promising but seems like a massive step up at this stage

Yeah, that's what I've read as well.

If it were up to me I'd have done everything possible to get Amorim and given him full support to implement his style of football, but I have a sneaky feeling the directors deemed his personality to be too strong and instead want a manager who's shown some early promise but is still inexperienced and malleable enough to play along with the 'structure' at the club and not demand too much control. The whole Pochettino leaving and the shortlist for his replacement has made it clear it's less about the actual quality of the coach and more about how they fit into the structure, and that's what makes Winstanley & Lawrence even more responsible for how the latest hire works out.

On paper I could see his style working with better players than he had at Leicester but whichever way I try to twist it I can't shake the feeling it's a massive risk to take. Here's hoping for the best but fearing for the worst.

Yeah same, I feel like I'm missing something. If Leicester stormed the league I could understand, but they didn't.

Other than that, all he has on his very short record as a manager is a rather poor spell at Parma and some time working under Guardiola at Man City.

Feels a bit like an NFL type appointment this where the merit seems to be he's from the 'Pep Coaching Tree'.

It's a risky one. Another team looking to get some of the rub from someone with a connection to Pep.

Maybe because it’s not as impressive to achieve that with a team that was surprisingly relegated from the Premier League, with the parachute payments in place as it is to take a team from League One to the Premier League.

"long term project"

He coached Lavia and Palmer in City’s youth set up

As the season progressed other managers worked out how to play against us & we didn't have a plan B.
