Most important thing for me during this preseason is to get Chilwell as many good minutes in his legs as possible. Going to be such a hugely important player on that side of the pitch with Sterling. He looked understandably rusty last night so hopefully we see gradual improvement in each preseason match.

He has good games, then has a run of not getting in the team or being poor. I've always said if Bayern made that offer again, id sell him. I'd love to see him kick on, but i dont see a scenario where he ever becomes a regular

Yes, Kai will be the starter up top. But it feels very stupid to allow Broja to leave. He would’ve been given plenty of minutes with such a long season, especially taking into account the 5 sub rule. One injury to Havertz and he could’ve stepped in and been the main man.
There aren’t any strikers of top quality out there now to bring in. We will now have ZERO recognized striker in our first team. Madness, really.

I just don’t think Tuchel’s system really favours a CF, hence why his strikers just never really score any goals.

Broja is stupid now to go away with no recognised striker in the team. But even now he don't want to fight for his place then just sell him permanantly and get on with it.
Yes, and I’m all for adopting the strikerless system City and Liverpool have used over the past few years. But that’s what would’ve made Broja so valuable in our squad. He is something totally different to all these small, quick attackers we have.
Like Liverpool always had Origi to bring on if they needed something different.
Tuchel is very involved with transfers and said, at least at the time, we were prioritizing other areas of the pitch.

Like who? Every attacking player other than Sterling who we managed to get is now off the table.

I think it may be a striker. Not a inside forward like those listed. Who? feck knows. Unless TT doesnt want a striker, per se. Seems this is Broja's decision to go anyway, flying back to UK now.
I preferred he stayed. With bringing someone in? I don’t want them to reach. There were 5 or 6 names, and once those were off the table Id rather let Tuchel see what he could do mixing around the players we have and wait. I thought it was a priority as well, don’t get me wrong. I was thinking Darwin Nunez or a few others in April and May. We had that long frozen period, and now we need to get to scouting again. I am worried we’re going to wear out Kai though.
So now Ake is out the window. If Chelsea replaces Rudiger/Christensen/Azpi with Koulibally/Kimpembe/Kounde now mpw consider that a big upgrade.
I'd be fecking shocked if we simply let Broja go with no replacement lined up. I'd like to think Todd and Tuchel are more clued up than that.

You would think we’d have a replacement lined up before we sell our most promising attacking youth player. But there hasn’t been a peep about any forward signing from any of the reliable Chelsea reporters.
Since when does Chelsea care about youth attackers anyways. Will prob go with Sterling up front.
I mean in this instance, the pathway is pretty much there. We've sent Lukaku packing, we've said no to Ronaldo and aren't currently, as far as I'm aware, pursuing any strikers and Tuchel wants him to stay. So the pathway that many of us always talk about with youth players is really there this time, yet he wants to leave. Don't think the club can be at fault here other than perhaps not trying harder to convince him to stay.
It sounds like West Ham have sold him the dream of being outright first choice there, and I guess he prefers that than duelling with Havertz at Chelsea. Fair enough.
It's a huge shame because from the youth setup all the way to this day I've had super high hopes for Broja, but it is what it is I guess.

6 goals for Southampton is better than Lukaku and Havertz (8) and Werner (4) for Chelsea.
With Lukaku going, we have only 2 players capable of playing as our central forward. Even if they had great seasons that’s not enough. Michy should not be considered, he is atrocious.
It then stands to reason that he had a very good chance of making the squad. He will be second fiddle at West Ham to Antonio anyway.

Not gonna lie, if Broja actually wanted to stay, I'd have turned down even £40m. It would need to be closer to £50m for me to think it's an absurdly high fee.

There's a lot of talk about Dujon Sterling (right sided player) being part of the squad this season.
Good because on your day (full strength with Chilwell And James in the 11) you are more than a match for the likes of Liverpool and City.
A bit more quality / depth and you could easily challenge them for the title.
Was it ever revealed why he missed out on the US tour, was he injured or maybe unvaccinated like Kanté and RLC? If he has any ambitions of being part of the squad, it would have been vital to go on the tour with the rest of the squad instead of balling with the academy team.
I don't rate Dujon all that highly tbh, solid defensively but doesn't seem good enough going forward which is vital for wing-backs in Tuchel's system. I'd probably take a punt on that Jonathan Clauss guy from Lens, bit of a wild card maybe but very good numbers last season (5G + 11A) and doesn't look like he's going to be very expensive either.

He oversaw and orginized the building of Bank of America Stadium for the Carolina Panthers. It is where we will be playing Charlotte in a few days. He will be huge in the rebuilding of Stamford Bridge and he is great at marketing a team and stadiums to large sponsorship deals. He is a big get.
