Chelsea £50 million bid rejected for Higuain

That's the kind of money we need to be throwing around this month to get the top top players. But we won't. We'll spend 27 million on players the class of Fellaini but won't cough up the extra 10 or so to get the cream of the crop.

Good player but...

50m rejected? Just shows how inflated prices are these days. Unfortunately this is the market we'll be competing in so if we're not willing to spend similar amounts we'll get left behind.

Wasn't he available in the summer and it was just Arsenal and Napoli going after him? Just shows how badly Chelsea bungled their summer transfer window by placing all hope in getting Rooney.

It actually sounds too ridiculous to be true.

I can't bring myself to believe that there exists a club out there that would reject that kind of money for a player like Higuaín, never mind the club that sold Cavani for the same amount. Cavani is twice the striker Higuaín is.

Calling bollocks on this.

Going price for a proven elite striker really. Not wildly insane. Cavani is not twice the player, he's barely 1.1 times the player.

So you bid 50 million for Higuain but 20 million for a player who plays for your rivals and is 10 times the player of the former. Makes their bid for Rooney all the more laughable.

Their Rooney bid was clearly just Abramovich trying to feck with the club, they probably knew very early on there was no way Moyes would sell him and were just testing the water to stir shit up.

Crazy bid for Higuan if true, which I doubt it is.

Aye, I doubt it's true either.

If it is, Napoli face a tough choice. £50 million is an incredible price, but there aren't really any forwards that would be attainable that are currently in Higuain's class.

Why not get him last window though? This can't be real.

They paid over £30m for them in the Summer, didn't they? Less than £20m profit on a player who was a slight disappointment at his previous club and has so far been very good for his new club isn't even that high to be fair. Then again it's £50million we are talking about.

They'd have got Rooney in the Summer if they were willing to stamp up £50m too. Next Summer they could have him for £35m - £40m probably.

Had a quick look and most places say £34.5 million. It'd be a tough decision, I can see why you would and wouldn't want to sell him.

Obviously not worth £50m but if Chelsea really do want him, they will have to offer mega money as Napoli paid a fair whack for him and he is having a brilliant season for them.

If we could get 40 million for a player who could leave for free in the summer (and sign a pre contract in jan) that would actually be an amazing deal for us!

I don't think Napoli is interested in money any more. Just look at the players they have sold the last couple of years. Cavani, Alexi Sanchez, Lavezzi.
If you start selling stars it could unsettle the rest of the squad if you don't show some serious intention in trying to progress as well.

There's about 500 miles between Udine and Naples, 8 places between Napoli and Udinese in the Serie A table and a feckload of difference between the two clubs in terms of current status, history, wealth etc.

Sanchez played for Udinese.

The reason Chelsea didn't buy him during the summer and why he was in and out of the Madrid team is because he's not a top striker. He's a good one and he'd start every week for Chelsea given their problems in that position but I wouldn't be thrilled if United were in for him, for example.

Stupid money, give us that and you'd probably get Rooney.

Strange then.

Mourinho didn't rate him at Madrid hence why he left. So strange that he's willing to pay that much money for someone who he clearly didn't rate at Madrid.

Wow even as a big Higuain fan thats a mental offer. He must be sitting on a 5 year contract at the moment?

He isnt a top player but hes certainly a top class finisher. Given the service he could expect at Chelsea I can see why they want him.

I'd expect Telegraph to do better than that.

When you make up a story, at least make it more believable.
