Cheering on Liverpool - 2017/18 edition

I don’t think I will understand the reasoning of “I don’t want to see city going unbeaten”. Was never going to happen.

That’s what got me not those who said that they live in hope of city getting caught.

Oh and the one guy who said he literally punched the air with joy. Weirdo

It was a strange day, I was watching with my brother and when Liverpools second went in we just looked at each other in silence, like an unspoken agreement to not enjoy it. By the time the fourth went in we were hoping for a comeback. When dust had settled the 4-3 was good with me, city dropped points, was confident pool would continue to struggle with small teams and their failings were made clear again.

Did you truly expect Liverpool to get beaten yesterday?
Back on planet earth I think most of us put Swansea down for a hammering

It’s still too tight to call in top 4, though the extra 3 points difference is welcome.

No I didn't call it, but Liveprool will drop points against smaller teams every now and then. That's why I didn't mind them being so close to us.

City lover tag coincided with a really bad day so that's why I didn't see it as a joke like scouser lover one.

To be fair, yesterday highlighted another reason I wanted them to beat City, because they really are no threat to us.

This is what I've been saying all along. Liverpool are irrelevant to our ambitions. We've finished below them a few times recently, but that was during a bad transition and if we aspire to win titles which we do, we don't need to be worried about Liverpool until they show something other than what they have been doing.

There are a multitude of stats (xg etc) which inform what I'm saying. And our recent form isn't subjective, it's a fact.

Haha.

Yes, that's what I was doing a few posts back. I was also at odds to disprove the 'Klopp's system will cause the team to run out of steam', a much loved theme on RedCafe but not actually based on fact (we finished last season on a very nice unbeaten run for example) especially bearing in mind the stats on distance run and rotation.

Any Liverpool fan has to have thick skin and a tendency towards masochism, it comes with the territory.

All downhill from here lads.

I think the "city lover" tag will be a lovely idea for some of the pep love in the forum. Please do consider that.

How original ! Why have I never seen this before ? What amazing acerbic wit you have ! Actually considering the pre-season poll where about 70% of RedCafe thought United were going to win the PL this should be, just to be accurate considering the past few seasons, called the Manc Boom-Bust Cycle (it's off being November).

The most expensive defender in the world is looking shrewd business as we thought!

You're trying too much.

I don't understand this reasoning. You said that there's no chance of City blowing their huge lead but also, that they were never going to go unbeaten? Haven't both of those things happen in the PL in the past? Arsenal went unbeaten and Newcastle blew a 12 point lead at this stage, no?
So why is one of those not possible while the other one is?

I understand that both were highly unrealistic, but not impossible. If the past were to repeat regarding the leading team blowing a huge lead, isn't it better if it starts asap, regardless of how unlikely it is? Liverpool catching us was always in our hands, but City losing their lead was not.

I just find this whole argument you guys had here, kind of weird. But not being from Manchester, I guess it's just a different point of view for me.

He is ! Created our two best chances, scored vs. Everton, nice passing and brings the ball out well, organises the defence, takes no blame for the Swans goal (scrum of players so did well to even get his head on it). Given a little time to settle he's going to be awesome. Glad you noticed it too.

He slowed you down so badly every time he brought the ball out of defence I thought.

Arsenal are the only team to have done it and imho they were a better all round team man for man, but probably playing against teams in the league that are not as good as the equivalent teams today. Because of the money, even the smaller teams have a better standard of player. It’s only my opinion of course but that’s the 2 reasons why I was confident they’d slip up somewhere

Newcastle blowing 12 points? It seems a lot but they didn’t have the experience or squad to hold on. Fergies side was relentless and when you see your manager cracking under the strain on live tv then that must transmit to the players.

All in all it’s obviously easier to lose a lead than it is to go unbeaten

Not at all. Our whole defence and midfield (esp. Can and Wijnaldum .. by far the worst culprits) were somnambulistic. 2/3rds of the pitch was vacant anyway .. you can't exactly just hoof it up into the Top 1/3.

Have a browse at the oul thesaurus this morning did you?

He was 100% at fault for the Swans goal. Carragher said as much. The way he headed it meant it could only go downwards, back into the danger area.

His premature celebrations when Firmino hit the post from his cross was a bit cringeworthy as well, not sure if anyone noticed. He's probably trying too hard at the moment, which is understandable.

He's been at fault for both goals conceded when he's been on the pitch. 100% record so far.

In hindsight, probably just as well mollycoddling Klopp kept his £75m man out of the firing line vs. City. ;)

He came through a scrum of players all going for the same ball and all off balance due to pushing and shoving, getting anything on it was an achievement to be honest. Notice the other 4 Liverpool players who didn't get near it at all, he jumps through all of them & the Swansea players to prevent a loose ball in the box .... Does anyone think he 'meant' to head it towards the middle of the box ?! Getting to it first is usually a positive, don't let the opposition get a head on it, in this instance he was just a bit unlucky in that he couldn't get any purchase and it just fell nicely for Mawson. These things happen, I don't put this down as a clear "Lovren-like' defensive error.

Why is it we ONLY see you when Liverpool lose ? hardly even noticed you for months and yet as .......

And of course no he hasn't, such bollocks, but to be expected from you since, as per usual, you are only on a WUM.

That would be me.

In my defence, it was more of a short and sharp clench of the fist, rather than a punch to the air because I felt secure enough in my belief that Pool would feck up their smaller games to actually want them to beat City and give us some hope in catching up to them.

It wasn't as if I'd turn into a Liverpool fan. All I want is for us to have some chance at actually catching up to City and Liverpool winning that day would help.

I still stand by my opinion.

A bit of composure & talking and he'd have let it drift over his head safely into touch for a goal kick. But he's trying too hard to be the big presence in the air Liverpool fans are expecting.

Bilic also said the same as Carragher. Two international centre backs. Enough said.

Sorry I don't spend my life on RedCafe like you.

I've been here though, I guess I've been distracted by Sanchez. :D

Stop being so pathetic. Everything that does't align with your rosey PR friendly view of your club is BIASED or a WUM - FAKE NEWS!

You're the Donald Trump of the Caf. Thin-skinned to the point of insanity.

VVD was caught ball watching vs Everton and completely fluffed defending the corner vs. Swansea (having also sliced the ball to give away the corner).

It's only two goals. Don't get so worked up about it.

Oh not everything is biased or a Wum, just everything YOU post .. as we are all aware no matter how much you trumpet to the contrary (get it).

I’m not entirely sure which is worse your tag or your location

It wouldn't be accurate though, would it? United are very much a club in transition so any association with the Boom-Bust cycle would be unjustified. Liverpool on the other hand epitomize the concept - up and down every year, false dawn after false dawn, an unrelenting broken record doomed to repeat itself.

Touching on 30 years since your lot last won a league title, during this dark period Peter Schmeichel won it 6 times with United, had a son and named him Kasper, who himself went on to win it with Leicester City. Some perspective for you.

No matter how much you don't want it to be true - it is entirely accurate for the current crop of United fans and team though isn't it *blows kiss*

I didn’t see this particular goal but in general I’ve always felt that he’s not as dominant in the air as he should be for someone his size.
Overall I think he’s a very good defender with potential to get better but that price... wow
