Let’s do a bit of wistful day dreaming to get over the loss.

For arguments sake Qatar are our new owners and money is no longer and object.

The conditions:
  • The only reason we need to sell is to help with FFP.
  • Keep it somewhat realistic. For instance we are not signing Tchouameni and Haaland.

What I’m interested in:

Does this squad need the soft centre ripped out of it or do we need to learn from Chelsea’s mistakes and keep some continuity?

Personally we need to sell 1 or 2 players from our starting XI that will surprise a few people, similar to how Klopp got rid of Coutinho and then reinvested the squad. These players should generate good transfer fees so we are talking the likes of Rashford / Bruno / Sancho etc.

If we have the Sheikh’s money and can actually spend it - then I’d go and get Maignan, De Jong and Kolo Muani. Those are the key first XI signings - and then a backup or two to complete things.

Outs:

Sancho
Antony
McTominay
Maguire
Lindelof

Good 200+ million plus there

Weghorst loan expires
Sabitzer loan expires
Cancel MG and Jones.

We need to upgrade the spine. 2 better back up CBS. 2 better controlling midfielders apart from Ericksen and Casemiro. Two reliable strikers. Won't happen till we get Jassim's money.....

Sorry but you watched that today and thought two back up centre backs would make the difference?

Striker, back up DM, goalie and right back, in that order. For DM we’ll need to buy someone of fairly average PL quality who is happy playing a squad role, like Arsenal have with Trossard.

Sell anyone (bar the obvious) we can get a fee for in those positions. Henderson, De Gea is probably worthless, one of Dalot and AWB, one of Fred and McTominay - maybe both if we can get Sabitzer cheap, Martial. Probably a centre back if we can get a decent PL back up for free from a relegated team.

It should be Bruno when his stock is somewhat high or else it will be another Maguire situation. We need a proper CM in his place in the team and go 4-3-3. Our midfield should be Casemiro behind that CM & Eriksen. It's too soon to give up on Sancho. Rashford is not going anywhere.

Get rid of Maguire & Lindelöf too and get reliable back ups for CB & CM.

I mean, if we're going full out "let's turn into quad contenders" I'd probably only keep like 9-10 players:

Core (18):
GK
Malacia - Shaw - Martinez - Varane - DR/DRC - DR
Casemiro - DM/CM - CM - CM - Eriksen - Bruno
LW - Rashford - CF - IFR - RW

Squad (7):
GK - GK - RCB/LCB - LB/RB - CM - Garnacho - CF (Note: I'd also keep MG if he gets back to his level).

Naturally there's some Home-grown stuff at play, but these are the players I'd keep in all instances.

There's players we're stuck with so this is just an assessment of the squad quality as a whole.

Absolute priority:
Kane
Bellingham or De Jong
Neves as backup for Casemiro
Backup for central defenders
Right back

Sell;
Harry
Scott
Awb
Donny

That is the team for PL title

But it will not happen. No way in hell that Murtough does 10 transfers in 2 months.

I would sell Bruno, Maguire and Dalot. Sancho is a huge question mark but unless he start showing some serious progress then we might as well get rid of him as well. Sabitzer and Weghorst are both no thanks.
I would like to see MG back if his team mates can accept it, Kane and Bellingham and a backup CM and CB.

Unlike you I am clearly interested in actually improving our entire squad based off our entire season. Rather than off one game away to Newcastle like you clearly are.
Something Im not sorry about at all...

I don’t think replacing Maguire and Lindelof with two other back up centre backs change anything about our season at all.

I love how you are eagerly repeatedly pretending the only players I wrote about adding to the team are back up center halves. Talk of either willfully blindness or an actual inability to read properly. Because frankly, if it can't register in your brain why having a better center half than lindeloff today at the very least prevents the second goal let in today. Two actual relable strikers means we don't go through an entire season utterly relying on rashford for goals alone, let alone witness an in effective attack like we did today. On top of Having an actual natural 6 and 8 at who can do exactly what Ericksen and Casemiro, whilst being better at controlling possession than Fred, Mctominay and Sabitzer from deep do when they are available. Be it for today's game like you seem overly obsessed with. Let alone our entire season. You are beyond help.....

I’m not pretending you only picked two centre halves at all and I agreed that a midfielder and striker are essential. I threw in a comment about today’s game because it had just happened, but over the course of the season, a new first choice right back and goalkeeper make an absolute tonne more of a difference than 3rd and 4th choice centre backs wouldn’t you agree?

In:

GK: Diogo Costa/Maignan
CB: Ousmane Diomande
RB: Vanderson
DM/CM: Moises Caicedo
CM: Frenkie de Jong or Bennacer
LW: Kamaldeen
CF: Kane, Osimhen or Ramos

Out:

De Gea & Henderson
Maguire
Dalot & Wan Bissaka
Fred & McTominay
Sancho & Martial

I'm not even sure how we will offload some players due to their high wages and unavailability due to injury.

I'd also hope we look to sign both Evan Ferguson and Rayan Cherki, even if it means we loan both out for a year.

Will add Martial & Dalot to sell list,so that takes it up to 12 transfers required which is mental

Don't know anything about that Diomande guy so any chance you could fill me in

19 year old CB who is showing a lot of promise. He's comfortable on either foot, strong aerial game, has recovery pace, physically and athletically gifted, along with showing a high level when it comes to resisting the press. I haven't seen him a lot but when I have watched him he's impressed me and he looks like a player that could really develop into a starting CB at a big club.

The post below from a SCP fan.

Ousmane Diomande. 19yo CB from Ivory Coast signed during the January transfer window for 7.5M Euros which could rise up to 12.5M with objectives.

Arsenal we’re also interested but did not want to pay more then 10M.

This kid passes the eye test through and through. Tall, Fast, great reading of the game, technically gifted and able to drive the ball forward and make the outlet pass. He has quickly won over Amorim and has been starting multiple games. Diomande was just playing in the second tier of Portugal 2 months ago and now he was putting in a brilliant performance at the Emirates.

He only just joined and naturally there is parts of his game needed to develop before he makes the inevitable jump but this kid has very obvious quality when you watch him play. I usually don’t like to rate players this early but I truly think he will be sold for a lot of money by Sporting to a top club in the near future.

Not many videos exist on him right now but just a few I found.

Great thread and money shouldn’t be a problem if Qatar take over but we will need to be mindful of two things ;

1. FFP Sustainability rules set to 70% of turnover.
2. Homegrown rule of 8 players from a squad of 25

So dealing with number one First we need a full system reboot and need to sell the following ; Dean Henderson(25M), V Lindelof(30M), E Bailey (7m), A Telles (8M), B Williams (5M), S Mctominay (30M), DVB (15M)

Loan out the following; F Pellistri, Hanibal, Alvero Fernandes, M Greenwood(* with the intention to sell for £40-50m abroad in winter or summer 24, loan team pays his 75k per week wages and pays £5m loan fee, maybe he joins a Qatari team..wink wink!)

Release the Following ; Phil Jones, Axel Tuanzebe
Yes I’m keeping Maguire as no One paying £30m and £200k per week for him plus we need his physicality and homegrown status And he’s useful in defending in certain games. Will get rid in Winter window when I can buy F Tomori or M Ghuei as his replacement.

The club would accrue about £110-120m plus we would seriously reduce the wage bill by £1m per week added to De Gea new reduced contract offsetting Rashford new increased contract.

New incoming players to be signed over two transfer windows.

Summer Transfer Window ; (7)
D Raya(30M), D Dumfries (35M) K Min Jae (44M), A Rabiot ( Free), Enzo Le Fee (35M), R Hojlund(45M) , O Dembele or A Fati (40-45M)
Total - £235-250m or £120-130m Net

Winter Transfer Winfow ;
Outgoings - Harry Maguire (25M), Fred (15M), Martial (15M) Antony (45M) Greenwood (40M)

Incomings(4) - F Tomari (£50M), Caceido (70M), H Kane (70M) , M Kudas (50M) Net spend £240m - £140M = £100M net
Total Net spend £220-230M

The new Squad to start 23/24 season ;
D De Gea, D Raya, T Heaton, D Dalot, AWB, D Dumfries, K Min Jae, R Varane, L Martinez, *H Maguire (F Tomari) L Shaw, T Mallacia, Casemeiro, Erikssen, Enzo Le Fee, A Rabiot, Bruno, *Fred(Caceido). K Mainoo, J Sancho, Rashford, (M Kudas)Antony, *Martial(H Kane) Garnaucho, A Dialo, O Dembelle, R Hojlund, squad of 27 with 9 Homegrown which means by winter we would have 27 with 10 homegrown which is ok. Negotiations with Daniel Levy would be impossible but if Kane's got 6 months left on contract, I can see a bid of £60-70m being too good for Levy to turn down. This squad could challenge but getting someone like Kane after 6 months of the season will be too late I think to mount a serious challenge.

Sounds interesting

Kane - don’t need to say anything about this one

back up striker - not confident on this one, but in an ideal world you move on from Martial and bring in a Ferguson

Kone - don’t consider FDJ/Bellingham realistic, this guy specializes in ball progression and breaking through the lines as a CM which we don’t have in the squad, good cover for Eriksen and brings a much needed different element that our squad lacks, would be great off the bench

Lavia - will learn from the best in the world for a few years while providing cover and rotation, only 19 and his press resistance is off the charts, could be a perfect modern DM in a couple years time

CB - don’t need to say much here, at least one of Maguire/Lindelof will be off if not both, need better cover for Varane and Martinez

modern GK - we need to bring in either a new starting keeper of the Raya or Sanchez mold or at least DDG’s eventually successor, today’s game once again showed how uncomfortable David is playing out from the back

outs:
Telles
Fred/McTominay - maybe both
Maguire/Lindelof - maybe both
Martial
Henderson

Personally would love the clean sweep of getting Fres, McTominay, Maguire, Lindelof all out of here, but I can’t see us bringing in two midfielders and two center backs in one window. Also not sure if we can get Martial off the books given his wages, that would also mean getting a starting XI and a back up striker in the same window as well.

What about Thuram/Dembele as backup striker options with both free agents in summer. Still not convinced we will even sign one CB let alone two in the summer

I didn’t even think of free agents, i’m still not used to this new era of quality players running down their contracts and being available on frees. Both of those options are better than hoping Martial can stay fit enough to even provide back up coverage. I have a feeling Maguire will put in a transfer request if he needs to, there’s no way he accepts a role on the bench next year.

Obviously the dream free agent striker this summer is Benzema but he won't leave Madrid

I guess something like this if I'm being realistic:

In:
1. Goncalo Ramos (Smart, fits system)
2. Jonathan David (Fits the system and I think would be happy to be our backup #9 for a decade)
3. Frenkie De Jong (I just think he's neat)
4. Sangare (nobody has moved for him so he comes to us at 25 and hopes to start with Casemiro aging out by say 28 rather than go to like West Ham or Lazio)
5. Maxence Lacroix (going off stats and profile so pick another CB if you like)
6. Vanderson (Looked to have big upside when I watched them play PSV)
7. Keeper (Don't trust Raya's shot stopping, Sanchez got benched, Samba's stats are great, I really have no idea)

Ramos - David
Antony - Pellistri
Rashford - Garnacho
Bruno - Eriksen
De Jong - Fred (Eriksen really)
Casemiro - Sangare
Vanderson -
Dalot
Malacia - Shaw
Martinez - Lindelof (but really it's Shaw backing up Lisandro)
Varane - Lacroix
Keeper
- Heaton

That's 22 guys which is a bit light, so let's add a 3rd keeper obviously and then one of Amad or Elanga sticks around as another attacker, Iqbal or Mainoo gets a promotion to be an extra midfield body and maybe Alvaro stays in the squad as a 3rd LB or Brandon Williams sticks around and you're up to 26 guys which seems reasonable.

Having watched that shit-show and been reminded of similar 'efforts' from this same group (more or less) I feel that the squad needs huge improvement.

We have a squad that was very poorly put together by inept and inadequate management over a long time. Even our younger squad players are mostly not good enough, and the attitude of being scared of the ball, and of taking on opponents, ducking out of tackles and jogging around after losing the ball is something that seems widespread.

We have plenty of players who are not good enough. It's impossible to replace them all in under 5 years or so. The problem we also have is that we're subject to FFP and do need to sell in order to buy, and we have a set of players that will be very difficult to shift due to the above, and criminally high wages.

If we did get bought by someone willing to spend instead of leech (I think the Glazers will stay) then the first thing to do should be to shore up midfield and buy at least two attackersb who are not terrified of taking on opponents and know where the goal is.

Ideally weeding out the poor attitude would include getting rid of weak players who often (not always) cause the rest to lose faith. This would include Maguire, McFred, Dalot, AWB, Martial and Lindelof. Replacing that lot would be a great start.

Wishful daydreaming? Feck Qatar and feck fantasising about their money.

That’s my take.

The idea of selling 8 players and buying 6 shows amateurism and I don't condone it. ETH should continue his build-up adding 2-3 key players each year.

Yep, we don't need oil money. We need a debt-free Manchester United spending their own money wisely.

Mental how many want us to become another PSG or City, when what we should be is what we used to be, the Real Madrid or Bayern Munich of England.

I just want us to buy midfielders so i won't watch anymore starting 11 with the clowns McFred.

And maroon coloured away kits similar to what Newcastle got with the Saudis. But let’s not pretend the bid is statebacked. Just a wealthy and nice guy with 6bn on hand in cash from Qatar
