Seville fully deserved to win the game. They didn't look that great, but created the most dangerous chances. Roma, instead. Well, they were just the usual Roma
A 2-1 defeat is not the worse result to get, they expect to do the job at homeSeville fully deserved to win the game. They didn't look that great, but created the most dangerous chances. Roma, instead. Well, they were just the usual Roma
At least they got an away goal. I'd actually bet on them outscoring Shakhtar in Rome.Seville fully deserved to win the game. They didn't look that great, but created the most dangerous chances. Roma, instead. Well, they were just the usual Roma
Is everyone avoiding the elephant in the room again? I'll be devil's advocate then. The four worst teams left in the competition in no particular order:
Porto, deservedly thrashed 5-0
Besiktas, deservedly thrashed 5-0
Basle, deservedly thrashed 4-0
Sevilla, SHOULD have at least lost if not thrashed. If a draw then at least conceded an away goal.
Liverpool play Newcastle on 3rd March, then the U-12s girls team play Porto on Tuesday before Utd at lunch time on Saturday.
Utd have that Liverpool game before bricking the fact Sevilla can score away goals the following Wednesday, so no resting anyone for either game.
Poor show tonight.
I thought Sevilla should have won. While they weren't great United offered nothing... though I do expect United to win at OT so I suppose it's job done tonight.

It maybe but it's far too risky for you to say that. If they score first United are up against. Especially if it's 0 - 0 at HT . If's and buts I know but you cannot say it's job done and especially with this United team. Even in the words of some of your fans something is quite cleary wrong. I will tell you what it is and I've said it before. Jose is not going to take United forward.
Sorry mate, I meant job done for tonight. Being a City fan I hope Sevilla win the second leg 9-0 but I don't see it happening. Jose is still a top manager but since Madrid I don't think he's nearly as confident in his players or methods and it's showing. I still wouldn't be surprised to see him win it though (well I would but only marginally).
@Dumbstar - Even I don't think United were that bad but it kind of reminded me of a reverse of the Liverpool vs Sevilla game where Liverpool had like 1 billion attempts to Sevilla's 3 and it finished a draw. 25 shots to 6 or something. I think though Jose did what he needed to do even though United didn't lay a glove on Sevilla.
I didn't know you were a City fan. It's still an even tie and can go either way. If it was Liverpool people would say it depends what Liverpool turn up. It's Jose's United though and he plays a cagey , no risk game and it seems he has run out of ideas. That's why I say if Sevilla score first United could be fecked.
Ah yes, Sturaro, very similar to Henning Berg's impact in our Treble winning season, I'm sure you remember his goal line clearances against Inter.De Gea and Alisson enacted a who can make the most ludicrous save contest, and in the end the winner was bruno fecking peres, with the "Sturaro"
For those unfamiliar with it, the sturaro is the bonkers desperate goal line foot save by an outfield player who's more suited to the pub league than the CL, so named after juventus stefano sturaro pulled it off against real madrid in the CL SF first leg in '15. That's right, Sturaro stared down the whole fecking world praying for a clasico CL final and said "not on my watch". And he's the guy every single juventus fan in the world looks on with incredulity and hopelessness every time allegri puts him on the pitch
I think though Jose did what he needed to do even though United didn't lay a glove on Sevilla.
@padr81 is a city fanI don't see how you can say that when de gea, yet again, is your man of the match. If Mourinho had done his job properly, the payoff for zero attacking intent should have been to keep the goal safe and have a midfielder or defender take home that motm award.
I've only seen Shakhtar against City (both times) and was impressed. Even though they lost in Manchester, it was one of the better performances I've seen a team give City this seasonShakhtar the Ukrazilian club wins. Everton should really go for Fonseca. I think he will become a top manager.
We changed managers in the meantime. After that, we beat PSG 3-1. proper enough team?Disagree completely on Bayern and City. Good teams but they've had the easiest draws in this round of CL by far. Give them a Chelsea/PSG/Juventus and they're sure as hell not winning 4-0 and 5-0. Bayern couldn't even win their group, and Man City won their group by a mere three points, and it was a very easy group they had as well.
Great teams, but let's hold off on the champagne until they play proper teams.
Not according to the Messi brigadeWe changed managers in the meantime. After that, we beat PSG 3-1. proper enough team?
I thought Chelsea were excellent. I started off not really caring what the result was going to be (though I should since my 87 yr old father has supported them all his life .... and whatever makes him happy) but in the end I wanted them to win, they deserved much more than to draw due to an awful defensive mix up. Willian may have been unlucky but he was also responsible for fecking up maybe their best chance, break on the right and a Chelsea player (Kante ?) totally free in the centre with no defender around him for miles .. he left it too late to attempt the pass, he could have made it much earlier with no chance of it being cut out.You were clearly watching a totally different game to me. We didn’t park the bus last night either. Barca did what they always do and dominated possession, but they did very little with it. We were actually much more positive than I’d expected us to be, and it paid off with some really good chances. Barca are still obviously favourites, but that was a really good performance from Chelsea last night, and I’m looking forward to seeing if we can repeat it in the second leg.
My main complaint was that the Pedro-Morata switch should have been made a lot earlier. I was tying out for it from around the 60th minute. Putting on Morata and immediately removing Fabregas also seemed pretty daft.
That's not true, they had 3 very good chances (all headers) - though Sevilla's finishing was abysmal, not least because Muriel is one of the most selfish strikers I've ever seen. Not the finishing they demonstrated when they drew 3-3 with usDespite the chances they created, Sevilla never really looked capable of scoring. De Gea had maybe one dangerous attempt to save.
I still think they're just too incompetent in attack to go through. That's not true, they had 3 very good chances (all headers) - though Sevilla's finishing was abysmal, not least because Muriel is one of the most selfish strikers I've ever seen. Jose did what he needed to ? United (and Mourinho) got very very lucky and that's got SFA to do with how Mourinho set up his team. De Gea was brilliant but a better header of the ball (on 3 occasions) wouldn't have given him the chance to make a save at all.25 shots to 6 or something. I think though Jose did what he needed to do even though United didn't lay a glove on Sevilla.
Exactly right.
I thought Sevilla suspect in defence and showed absolutely abysmal finishing and composure in the area (esp. that greedy fecker Muriel) but should still have won by a couple - didn't their mothers ever teach them 'head the ball down' ! However their midfield was quite superb, brilliant technical skills, lovely short fast interplay and constantly switching play and stretching United all over the pitch. It got worse for United when the 'best midfielder in the world' came on, they were totally overrun then.
I thought Bonega was superb against United last night; technically brilliant, tough, good tackler and totally set the pace for the midfield controlling the game, maybe he would look great alongside Keita (though we'd have the smallest midfield in the league) .... Sevilla definitely deserved far more than a draw. If they continue in that vein at OT there is every chance they'll eventually find the net. But United will score too as Sevilla's defence is just very very small and I can see Lukaku / Jones / Pogba winning a few headers in the box.
In midfield ? You were raped. And you were trash as the stats show Sevilla (25-8) United 6 (1). Sevilla were shite at both ends though whereas United created virtually nothing all game. As I've said above .. I can't see Sevilla not scoring if they continue in that vein which will make it an interesting game however I still expect United to go through now.Totally overrun? Don't think so. You are making Utd sound like trash.
We got a solid result away in Europe at a difficult place. We now have something in common, neither of us can seemingly beat Sevilla. Although we get another crack at it infront of 75000 fans.

it's a funny result 0-0 for the home team, far better than a scoring draw but with Sevilla not taking their 1 or 2 half decent chances then I think they'll struggle to go through, from memory they're not great away and defensively they can't be that good if Navas is playing full back, probably a result both teams are happy enough with but United shouldn't have too many problems though it'll be interesting if Sevilla score first

This is from four years ago but still.
I was surprised just how bad Seville were. Like truly awful, how Liverpool botched winning positions in both home and away games against them I'll never know. Just shows how bad we were on the night that we couldn't beat them
Awful seems a touch strong. I thought Montella set them up well. They've lost 1 in 35 at home. Thats not a coincidence.
Not saying we were great either. Jose being Jose wanted to get this leg out the way and settle it at OT, which I think we'll do.
Well, it's a good result, sure. I'd rather have a 3-0 though - now that's ideal!I've always thought a 1-0 home win in the 1st leg is *the* ideal result. It lets you sit and counter in the away game, knowing that 1 goal will probably kill the tie.
Is there a 10% chance that both teams are going to be kicked out? A bit harsh on Sevilla, they at least tried.~ Probability of qualifying if we look at bookies odds:
Barcelona - Chelsea: 80/20
Tottenham - Juventus: 70/30
PSG - Real: 30/70
Utd - Sevilla: 65/25
Roma - Shaktar: 50/50
Rest of matchups are obviously done barring a miracle
Shakhtar the Ukrazilian club wins. Everton should really go for Fonseca. I think he will become a top manager.
I didnt read the article but I dont have to. 0:0 is of course better for the home team than 1:1edit: after reading that Telegraph article I didn't realise that 1-1 is better for the home team than 0-0, so a better result for United than I initially thought.
Shakhtar deserved a more confortable win. They created so many good chances. Roma keeper was clearly the MOTM.
I'm very curious to see Paulo Fonseca move to England. I think he's an underrated manager. His teams play attractive, proper football and unlike Marco Silva he knows how to setup defenses (he's a former center back). Like i said, a team like Everton, would be a good challenge and a way to prove himself. He hasn't done enough to warrant a chance in top four club.
