Champions League | Matchday 6

Liverpool have absolutely cruised through the so called group of death

Haven't watched any of their games have they been really good or the oppo not living up to their reputation?

He just did that thing of not coming over for the rollicking and card giving ceremony. The ref gestured and he ignored him, giving him a thumbs up and then pulling up his sock. It was mildly defiant. Nothing, but Madrid had started serial tactical fouls so I'd say the ref wanted to stamp down and then just had a wee inner tantrum.

Thanks mate. Bit weird that, presumably they'll appeal not that it's going to help them much.

Both, injury ravaged Milan been meh and Atletico not been consistent enough. Porto is just bottom.

Yeah, that's the BBC live feed's interpretation. The ref was going to show a yellow, but couldn't because the player clearly ignored him. That was cause for a second yellow - but since the ref had not been able to give the first yellow (I guess you can't until the player looks at you?), it just became a straight red.

I suppose a more proper approach (and more understandable for viewers) would have been to show the yellow twice, and then the red.

Fair red card, shown a complete disregard for the referee, lack of respect. Clear dissent.

The foul should be a red card imo anyway, blatant tactical foul but thats another story.

That’s what it looks like

the referee is a jumped up little fart
How’s that a red for Felipe? Unreal the decisions Liverpool get across all competitions. Staggering really.
Behave lad, was never a sending off see that 4-5 times a game.
Maybe, but that was never a red card
Wasn’t a red but game over in Liverpool
Well it wasn't a red card for one.

Blatant yellow but no red.
Saw the replay just a dickhead referee on a power trip..
So now it’s a violent conduct red?
yellow for the tackle and then upgraded to red for dissent.

Shouldve been two yellows but what’s VAR gonna do call it back so he can give a yellow and still send him off?

Looking at the replay Felipe does more than just a professional clip. That's a hard chop.

Think Owen is right. It's a borderline red and Felipes behaviour convinced the ref to go with red.

This Ajax team will soon go stale under ten Hag. Not because they'll all of a sudden become a bad team or he'll become a bad coach but they have this certain arrogance this season that they can just show up and win at will. Happened against Heracles over the weekend. He'll need to leave Ajax soon, hopefully to United.

I'm fine with the red card against Felipe. No intent to play the ball and he plants his studs in Manés achilles. It's just reckless and frankly also a bit stupid.

Replay showing it starting from the 20 sec mark.

E: Maybe it wasn't even his intention, but I think this is more than just a professional foul.

The referee lacks respect for the game. Refs are ruining football.

It definitely hasn't ruined this match. I was hoping that impertinent Atletico player was sent off, and he was! I was laughing my head off.

No point having a ref if players are allowed to reject their authority.

Is it me or do City play in more fixed positions this season? I don’t see the movement across the pitch that used to terrorise sides

Why don’t BT bother putting the lines up? They did the same last night

First of all, it was a group of death on paper only, all these teams are exactly what Liverpool thrive against, secondly they've had sections of each tie where they looked really really shaky but the opposition didn't take advantage, albeit the Porto game where Porto was hopeless. It's not as impressive as it will be made out to be. They'll have to play at a way higher level to go further.

He trips him up. A professional foul. Not a red card in a million years. Upgrading to a red was petty as hell. He acknowledged him and gave a thumbs up. You get far more insolent responses to bookings multiple times every weekend.

That's a pretty harsh appraisal!

Mbappe wasteful (one sitter in 1st half and now big chance), it could cost them later.
