Champions League | Matchday 6

I don't think he said "the black guy" though, at least not according to the reactions in the video. I think the "" are implying he used a different word.
Yeah it wouldn't have upset both sets of players. Props to PSG and Istabul for standing up for Ba

Sounds like he said ‘negro’ from that clip. Seems like he ‘the black guy’ but not in English from what people are saying on Twitter.

Jeez Leipzig don't half have some lapses in their own penalty area.. misplaced passes, fallen over their own feet. They'll definitely concede.

Dont think he called him black. But the n word. I think he put black guy in ” just as a placeholder

The Istanbul's assistant coach repeatedly asked him "why you say negro". See video above. Presumably the 4th ref said "negru" in Romanian.

He's romanian, I think. So he probably said "negru" which means "black" in romanian.

Yeah just read that. Then it's very grey. Reason I say a grey area is cos I don't know why he would need to say 'black guy'. Could just point?

I'll attribute it to ignorance instead of malice because I know nothing else about the incident, so I'll say: He's probably an idiot.

Yeah that's the explanation given atm. It doesn't make it a whole lot better.

Looks like the game will resume, probably without the 4th ref.

The ref does claim he said "negru", but that doesn't solve the issue. You don't say "this black guy" when you're a ref and want to send someone off.

4th ref defense is that "negru" means black in Romanian. Still not OK.

Seems like the match will restart without this ref after a delay and another warm-up.

BT with their amateur coverage again.. last season it was the PSG V Atalanta game with the delay, then the Liverpool v Ajax with the sound issue. Now studio shots of Rio & Linkekar sipping tea.

You forgot the ‘you’re a racist’ bit.

You have really really strange reactions on here to incidents revolving around racism. And sometimes even stranger reactions to people trying to explain such incidents to you (not even talking in particular about this one).

You will rightly not care what a random stranger on the Internet thinks but I'm pretty much done giving you the benefit of the doubt.

This ref is an absolute nobber. Everything about his manner is off today.

In fairness that's been the best bit so far.

With all the drama missed the fact Juve are 2 up and probably gonna win the group.

Man has a name, it's not hard to call him by his fecking name

There's absolutely nothing wrong with saying the black guy.
But it doesn't sound like that's what this is about from a couple of other posts.

Separate thread for it, he allegedly said the negro/negru

In Portugal we're taught to say 'negro' (portuguese word) to refer to a black person while calling them 'preto' which means black is actually a racist insult. So it's pretty much the complete opposite of what happens in english for example, given the similarity between portuguese and romanian languages that could have been what happened.

UEFA scheduled the PSG game to restart at 10pm local at 13th min in 1st half replacing the ref with one from VAR. No info if Istanbul agreed.

There is quite a bit wrong with saying the black guy. There's just no need for it.

Good times when Barca were chastising Ernesto Valverde for leading the league table 3 years in a row and losing 3-4 on aggregate to the most in-form Liverpool side in 3 decades.

This new Barca 3 points above relegation, getting rekt at home by any half decent side, under a coach who plays 4-2-4 against a 5 men midfield Juve, is sure as hell the biggest improvement I've ever seen in football.
