Champions League Group Stage Draw | United draw PSV Eindhoven, CSKA Moscow & Wolfsburg

United have no chance of going anywhere in this competition - expect them to go through but as soon as we face PSG, Bayern etc we'll get beat comfortably.

But we'll spend another 100 million or so and try to address the situation.

Then went on to praise City, and they have a hard group but a better chance - whilst completely ignoring their spending habits.
I find this very common. City and Chelsea are just flexing their financial muscle when they spend while United are hopelessly trying to buy our way back into relevance. No idea how much Pellegrini or Mourinho have spent since taking over but every second article on United mentions LVG's spending.

CSKA are a decent team and the last time around they caused us some trouble (nearly won at OT too). I'd have them as second favourites if De Bruyne leaves Wolfsburg.

Don't think they're as strong these days even though they managed to embarrass City last time round. Since they last played us they've lost Honda and Vagner Love. Doumbia's back on loan but doesn't seem as good as he used to be a couple of seasons ago. The Dzagoev hype from Euro 2012 seems to have died down too and they don't play on the plastic pitch in the Luzhniki anymore. Hopefully we'll be travelling there early when there's less chance of bad weather.

All in all it will be a disaster if we don't go through but then again we had a much easier group in 2011 when Basel knocked us out.

That really was an absolute shocker of a campaign. Failing to get out of a group containing Basel, Benfica and some complete nobodies in Otelul Galati. :wenger: Then getting schooled by Bilbao after scraping past Ajax in the Europa League.

Yep, I think it was the same game when Obertan came on and ripped 'em apart. It was back when Wolfsburg had Dzeko too.

We were winning back then, but Christ, what dross we had in the squad.

Should be an exciting group. CSKA away is a very tough away game. I don't know much about PSV this season but I'd predict they'll be a little weaker after losing Wijnaldum and Memphis. Wolfsburg are likely to be weaker if they lose KDB too.

But we should be topping it comfortably regardless. Win the home games, avoid defeat in the away games. 12 points.

It was only the beginning of what was to come when SAF retired.

It's great that we got a winnable group as we need to be aware of our coefficient. There's a very real chance of us going down into pot 3, so getting into the knockouts will be a big help. Get to the quarters and we'll basically be guaranteed to stay in pot 2.

Or we could just win the league and get into pot 1 :)

Just been reading the pages of this thread during the draw.

I love how we've only been out of the CL for a year, and yet people have forgot completely how the draw works in relation to splitting the 4 PL teams into the two halves of the draw

It happens every year - do people not notice that?!

It would help if the git explaining the rules wasn't so boring every year

This whole draw is ridiculous . Put all teams in 1 bowl and draw . At the end the best team will survive .

Cheeky bid for kdb then?

Fecking fergie and his lineups  And we won it 3-1, the year after Wolfsburg won the title. That was before Nani was any good as well. Basically had Evra and then everyone else playing out of position, or old, or reserve players.

That picture doesn't tell full story either. Park played higher up rather than at right back so it was Evra, Carrick and Fletcher in a 3. Shows how great Fergie was to get us through games with either good players out of position or just dross.

It was only the beginning of what was to come when SAF retired.

We should have got past Madrid under Fergie. Obviously the red card played a part but unfortunately it was just as RvP went on that barren run and I remember on golden chance he had in the away leg to make it 2-1 which he snatched at and was cleared off the line. It would have made all the difference I think for the game at home.

Somewhat hilariously unless we get to the last 8 it's actually Moyes who's got us the furthest over the past five years now we lose our runners up finish in 2011. With this new system of league winners in pot 1 we're at risk of dropping down into pot 3. :nervous:

Same with the bald guy and all the time wasting at the beginning. People seem genuinely surprised that the draw doesn't start the moment coverage begins.

This game came around when all of our defenders were injured.. Even had David Gill's son Oliver up from the academy on the bench. Against Djeko and Grafite we pulled a great win and won the group
We had a similar back 4 against Fulham that year didn't we? I remember it was De Laet at right back instead, we lost 3-0

Good thing we're playing Moscow in October.. Would be "gloves and snoods on" if that were on December.. Hopefully we'll travel to Germany with nothing to play for.

Ferguson was capable of putting out some extremely weird teams and still getting results. We are now mulling over the fact we don't have a Ronaldo to pull us up front when Fergie could have played Bellion, Richardson and Fortune and get 3-0.

CSKA was the official team of the Soviet Army during the communist era. Since the dissolution of the Soviet Union it has become privately owned, with the Ministry of Defence as a shareholder. Russian businessman Roman Abramovich's Sibneft corporation was a leading sponsor of the club from 2004 to 2006.

Finished 2nd in Russia last season.
