Champions League gameweek 3

City are so careless with the ball. They have good chances to create, but lose the ball so stupidly.

Sterling did well there. Looks a handball, Digne's hand outstretched.

Well city can count themselves unlucky.

Unlucky to be down, Kola was unlucky in the tackle and Fernandinho borrowed his boots from Stevie G. Stones poor defensively tonight. At least we're putting up a game. MSN do look a cut above what we're offering and I think Barca will get a second before we get an equaliser. The fact we're having a go and not getting torn asunder is a change from our last few meetings so I'm happy enough. Considering we're away at Camp Nou only way it could have went better was if we hadn't conceded.

This hasn't looked like a game between champions tbh, lots of sloppy passing from both sides. Every chance created has been mistakes from either side. Could argue both press well I guess, but not impressed.

1-1 would've been more fair though, City has been unlucky.

Crystal ball? Game hasn't kicked off yet. Pep often played strikerless and wasn't defensive. If he runs our formation into 631 we'll talk.
Silva has played as no 10 at times... So yeah

I really wish we got Pep Guardiola as manager.

City already look miles better vs Barcelona compared to their past outings against them and it's only been 2 months.

Barca are the slightly superior team, but City hold on well. The goal was just bad luck.

Both teams press very well.

It's embarrassing how Neymar and Suárez throw themselves around after fouls.

Both keepers have a very good game, both against and with the ball.

I was never over the moon given the way he played last season compared to a couple years ago, but he is simply getting worse. He wasn't at fault for the goal, but with him on the field we've always looked rather suspect so far. What I really regret is Badstuber's inability to stay healthy and the insistence to play the slowest player in the world in front of defense with Alonso.

Huh? He had a good season with us.

I think this is currently not really about form. On paper the Boateng-Hummels pairing should be one of the strongest in world football (and in the national team it also works well most of the time), but on club level Hummels was used to be the defensive leader for over six seasons, the organizer of the backline with the athletic partner at his side.

This role is clearly occupied by Boateng at Bayern and having two bosses (with quite the egos on top of it) in the defense can lead to a certain loss of stability (Alonso in front of it also does not help). A lot will depend if Hummels can step back and play second fiddle, because he certainly won´t overtake Boateng in the team hierarchy.

Both are sloppy at times. Playing with no number 9 has allowed City to press better in midfield and higher up but until Pique went off they were so blunt in and around the box.
Problem for City is that the most ordinary forward passes are causing trouble for them and I don't think Pep trusts his fullbacks enough to take more responsibilty going forward never mind leaving them a littlw more exposed to Barca's drifting attackers.
It'll be an enjoyable second half to watch.

Finally Thiago springs into action after being anonymous for much of the first half.

And we almost concede another goal. We're surely one of the worst teams in europe in terms of "balls into the box / high calibre chances for the opponent" at the moment.

It's really frustrating to watch City play well against Barca - we don't even know when we'll be in CL next.
It's fecking depressing. The fact that most of us(myself included) were happy with a scrappy draw with Liverpool is an indictment of were we are. We've been shite for 3 years and i'm getting frustrated.

And another one... this defense is a walking catastrophe. Can't clear a ball to save their life.

Neuer saves us from some embarassment... I don't get our defensive performance.

Barca have 2 defenders already gone, i think its affecting them alot. Pique is a huge huge miss.

What's depressing is watching the pace and tempo of these two teams, and comparing it with ours.
