Centre Back... Who do we go for?

What CB sells shirts? And why would we care if a player sells shirt?
We don't. The marketability thing is massively overblown. We like to buy superstar attackers every now and then but it's now made to seem like we try it on every signing

Woody cares, I think that's pretty evident, look at our backline, we usually stick around the £30M mark for defenders, it was an issue with the Sandro deal, we don't want to drop the kind of money City did on their FB's as they aren't marketable players. Maybe he'll prove me wrong, that's why I phrased my post as a question, saying to your media pals that you'd pay £100M for Varane is preetty meaningless though.

Not what I was saying, there are no marketable CB's, what I was saying is we don't want to drop the crazy fees on non marketable players, period.

Alex Sandro might not have been available for any price and Sandro might not have been willing to force a move. Us not signing Sandro might not be because we were cheap. And 30m for a defender was a lot for a defender not that long ago.

I think what we ask from huge fee targets is if the player isn't marketable, they should represent a good long term investment (Lukaku, Martial). Not many clubs will sanction 60 plus mil for some of the players Jose asks for.

I hope both of you are right and that availability and the player needing to offer the potential of long term service are key factors and we are willing to pay stupid money for CB's, as it's the only way I can see us settling this current defensive problem we face.

Yeah this guy looking like a real top prospect, but I wish they are more of the attacking, flair young players saying this tho.
If our football improves and resembles what other top clubs play like, we will soon hear from some young attacking players.

1. Matthjis De Ligt
2. Kalidou Koulibaly

Sign up these 2. We already have Tuanzebe and Williams, I rate them highly. We really should have been in for Van Dijk. I'm certain he would've preferred us to L'pool.

Anyone watching this new Serbian CB, Nikola Milenkovic. He and Skriniar could be the best pairing in the premiership if we could get them.
Jose went to watch Serbia last night.

A top class talent who is assured, dominates his area and won't run away from responsabilties when the preasure is on.

What about world cup winner Lucas Hernandez ? Left-footed Atleti centre back with a 70m clause I think...

Milenkovic would mean another young defender in the team after Eric and Victor. Not sure if this is what this team needs atm, but at least he looks talented and probably won't break easily as Jonesy.

Ageist

I don’t think anyone would mind

Dalot-DeLigt-Pavard-Shaw

Nah, it's similar to what Aloysious's Back 3 was referring in his post a week ago with the idea that Frenkie can play multirole, which could support defensive line.

False centreback basically.
I’m not in favor of all this ‘false’ position talk. What next, false goalkeeper?

After McTominay and Herrera in defense, I am not surprised at all. Recently Romero looking false to me. Almost like not Romero at all. Neurer as a midfielder was bad, but Schmikes as much as he getting flamed in the recent thread could at least score a goal.

Oh ok - kind of what Blind was then

Sorta, kinda. The thing about Blind was that he was our most experienced defender and signing experienced one made some sense. You know the rest of the story...

That being said, Pavard is class. Most of teams would want that kind of defender.

Blind was our only intelligent defender it's a shame Jose didn't keep him for an extra year - I've heard about this pavard chap he's supposed to be quiet good ❤

We need someone dominant in the air. I'm tired of us looking clueless in our corners and opponents.

Someone else who's dominant in the air you mean. Smalling is great in the air at both ends of the pitch.

Slightly agree. Smalling is the best we've got in the air. I'd however love someone with a power header like a Koulibaly or Kompany.

Jack hendry...... 25m and hes yours :D
Not sure I'd give you £25 for him!
The guy Scott McKenna at Aberdeen looks a much better bet.
Probably not ready for utd yet but 18 months - 2 years playing for a bottom half
premier club and then he will be.
