Celtic would be top 6 in the Premier League

They'd be fine after a few years. They have the fanbase, give them the money and bigger players will want to join.

So did Newcastle, and not only did they get relegated, but also were about to be relegated again before they won the Middle Eastern lottery.

If Celtic were to ever to come to the PL, they would most likely be a midtable club at best.

Nah, Newcastle are a loser club who haven't won a thing since the 50s. 52,000 mugs and no cups.

The incentive for the 2 Scottish giants is obvious but what on earth would make anyone in England want them in?

You'd lose 2 premier league places in no time even if you went through the pantomime of making them join in the championship or even league 2.

The Scottish league and all teams who rely on the Old Firm cash would be ruined.

Plus integrating other Scottish teams at lower levels would be a complete non starter due to travelling distances necessary which are a big cost for lower league clubs. Why should it be just those two?
I can’t see it ever happening.

There's another reason it'll never happen, FIFA and/or UEFA would have to sanction it and the price to be paid would be that the individual governing FA's be merged in to a single entity, and that means a single national team with a single vote as opposed to 4 with a vote each

You would think but Welsh teams are part of the English pyramid.

I personally wouldn’t want Scottish teams anywhere near the PL or come to that the EFL. How could you say to the likes of Aberdeen ,the Dundee Clubs, or the Edinburgh clubs they too couldn’t follow ? We had enough of a fall out with the Super League so there would have to be promotion from the Scottish pyramid surely

What would be the league if a Scottish team were relegated.

Yes but Wales still has it's own national league and only a handful of Welsh clubs play in the English League (Cardiff, Swansea, Newport, Wrexham). The reason why they're part of the English pyramid is because there was no league in Wales when they were formed and they didn't want to move back to the Welsh League when it was formed in 1992, for very understandable reasons.

That's completely different from Celtic and Rangers suddenly wanting to be in the EPL.

A team from Holland could only draw with Manchester United last week so they're not really that good.

On a serious note a championship team could absolutely do all those things. Sheriff and other european minnows have caused many upsets in the CL over the years.
Feyenoord beat Girona away tonight, who were third in La Liga last year etc. Point is they have some good players, Japanese contingent in particular, their forward was linked with City, O'Riley went to Brighton, Van Dijk came from there etc.

The line about teams from Holland was a joke mate.

When the League of Wales formed there was a concession made that even those clubs located in Wales and played in the English leagues could continue in English Leagues but Newport A.F.C. at that time didn’t play in England they played in the Hellenic League playing somewhere in Gloucester. Newport County had gone into liquidation and out of existence. Yet they were allowed to relocate post formation of the Welsh league from England to Wales

Similarly the club not mentioned is Merthyr Tydfil who were another club afforded the concession to carry on playing in the English Leagues albeit at Non League level they like Newport in their original form went under and were reformed when there was a Welsh league in place

Celtic would probably be attractive for investment from the states if they joined english leagues, especially because of the Irish-American angle.

If they joined the premier league back in 2005 I think Celtic would be a top 6 club right now

But it's a lot harder these days

I'm very happy with the current arrangement. Celtic amassing domestic silverware by being the best turd in the shit heap and then getting humiliated every time they get into the Champions League. Happens every year but it still makes me laugh every time.

They're already majority owned by Dermot Desmond, who is worth €2 billion. But he doesn't see it as worthwhile to blow a lot of money in the league when they're in SPL and not getting Premier League millions, which is probably fair enough.
