Shame we’re aren’t more like Brighton
So we are not signing him, just loaning him for the Liverpool game?! Smart!
Let’s hope so. As plan Bs go, he’s a pretty fecking good one. I’d just be a lot more excited if he was 27.Surely that’s Eriksen. A wonderful playmaker. I would imagine the midfield will be Cas at 6, Eriksen at 8, and Bruno at 10.
Can you name the player with four wheel drive, smells like a steak and seats thirty-five?
Sure but it's all a work in progress. We can't get to a point where the likes of Tchouameni and Camavinga would be interested in us if we don't do something asap. United isn't a club that can build long term while struggling massively. We can only build long term from a position of strength. Big clubs can't operate like small clubs. You have to stabilize yourself as a club, and show the others why they should join your club. Because as of now, we are a big club who is a graveyard for big talents who join, and a team who makes it impossible for players to leave if they want a step up. So they'd rather join mid table teams knowing they'll be able to move on stress free and develop better. All we do is stop gap signings. They haven’t worked so far. Other teams sign these up and coming DMS because they are on the ball. They make these moves happen early and have a clear recruitment strategy. They want them more, offer them better terms (not just money) We don’t. A club this size. We sleep on it, then act late and act shocked when we don’t get them.
I’m not saying Casemiro isn’t great and if he comes here and sorts out this midfield then I’m all for it.. it just shows we don’t recruit properly, we don’t have a system or a strategy.
for 70million it’s a lot of money and I hope it isn’t the only business we make before the window ends because it’s not enough. You can’t keep throwing money at players and hoping it sticks.
Real Madrid just bought two very good young DMs. Brand new shiny players with 10 years in them. They have Casemiro in their team. It tells you something.
looking at Thiago silva at Chelsea does give me a little hope though, at 37. If he can have that impact on this team and that longetivy, then I guess he will be worth it. Time will tell and he’s a great player as I’ve said previously.. I just Thought maybe, with this new management all around the club, we would move differently. It’s actually been worse.
Surely that’s Eriksen. A wonderful playmaker. I would imagine the midfield will be Cas at 6, Eriksen at 8, and Bruno at 10.
Nothing works for us, doesn't matter what type of player we sign. I am just saying that there is simply no way players like Casemiro would consider moving to United if we let's say offer him 20% bigger salary. At this moment we are only attractive money wise, we cannot offer pretty much anything else. When you say 'best' what do you mean? We've tried that, who have been our best performing signings over the last 10 years? How many of those came for huge fees and/or huge wages? It seems to me that the opposite is true. When will we learn? The amount we've thrown at non-performers we could have repaired OT and brought our training ground up to standard. Would that have been a better investment?
To be honest when you think about it, Real Madrid have always sold top performers. They’re a ruthless institution that hold no sentimentality for anyone.
Sold all those guys in this tweet.
Sold Ozil before his prime, sold Di Maria in his prime.
So maybe Casemiro sale isn’t so surprising after all

Less pass accuracy than McSauce. Do not want.I wonder if he will improve us?
So we skip a transfer like this entirely, OK, and do what instead? Him not settling is indeed a valid point, particularly so if he's locked to a longer contract, but what are the alternatives, and do they come with anything like the upside of Casemiro coming here and taking to everything like a duck to water? Two sides to every what if, afterall. It's never as simple as picking up a player and placing him in a different environment. There are a lot of factors involved such as:
- adapting to a new league / team mates
- how the player reacts to a much lower level
- whether he is genuinely motivated to prove himself or doesn't feel he has to having done everything at a higher level
- how he performs without the comfort of Modric and Kroos
- if he has any injuries / settling in period and whether he can recover from that at age 31 (give a year to adjusting or injuries)
If it were that simple we'd have a much better success rate with transfers. Truth is Casemiero has not been at a club like ours in transition or turmoil call it what you will, for ages.
Eriksen is already here and should have a massive role to play; alternatively, it's two 6's as ten Hag desires, but if FDJ isn't coming, that's not happening (imo), so we will adapt and work with what we then have instead. ten Hag isn't as inflexible as is being made out and he is schooled in the 4-3-3 from childhood; it isn't one way or no way. Also you say get a proper user amongst them - who is that and why would get be cheap? And how do we get away with spending big on an aging DM AND a playmaker?
FDJ is a very unique player; you aren't going to get like for like with him; he may be ten Hag's first pick, but we need workarounds should that not materialise. Casemiro does not reduce that one bit - if FDJ is coming, you put them together and theoretically have the best 6 base in the world; if FDJ is not coming, you modify elements of the system, perhaps even put Martinez in midfield, or have crossover duties where he comes into midfield and use the ball from deep - there are many, many ways to workaround the issue, but the whole time, Casemiro gives you a platform from which these things are feasible. In terms of flexibility, he trumps practically any midfield signing we could make because of the ways he can be utilised whilst maintaining a solid shape and offering protection to the backline through the centre of the pitch at all times. That's why FDJ was ETHs first pick as he knew a player who can pick the ball up in deep areas amidst the modern press and build attacks is more valuable than a destroyer.
Of course those are valid concerns, but again, what are the alternatives? As I said previously to someone else: we need to get through this window with the means to be competitive, lick our wounds and moan about whatever after the fact and hopefully learn to never put ourselves in said predicament again. But as of today - right now - we are in really, really bad place with one of the worst midfields in the league and players of any worth turning their noses up at us left, right and centre. Until we are a desirable destination, this is our reality and we need quality and competency in equal measure to get out of said hole, which Casemiro brings with him in abundance.I worry about us spending huge money on a destroyer when we have a midfield that can't pass to one another. Let alone one that's possibly going past his peak soon.
feckers
Still would be a great use of the FDJ funds so we aren't left empty handed this window after setting aside money for an elite midfielder
Pretty much, they're scummy but very professional and that's respectable.Yea they don't really mess around typically with long drawn out sagas, bar Mbappe's who was unprecedented. They're very efficient and don't waste other clubs time often in the market
The antithesis of Barcelona.

I left that in to specifically see which dick head would make that joke.Less pass accuracy than McSauce. Do not want.

Because we need to solve the problem in short terms, and a "still" world class player is available now, then why not?
next Casemiro !? Who can guarantee that player can turn to the level of Casemiro in that position within a few months or within a few years?
Also, next Casemiro may not keen to join a sinking team with no CL and bottom in the league currently.
We need to find the best one in our weakness to fix in short term to carry the team in 1-2 years then to find another prospect.
You cannot hold a hand of prospect and wish them breakthrough within months, please remember that we are fighting in relegation group and we have no players suited in that position.
Happy to oblige.I left that in to specifically see which dick head would make that joke.
Nonsense. We need upgrades immediately. Even if we only get 3 years out of him, that is 3 years we now have to find his successor. And for those 3 years, it is a huge upgrade at a position that we have been desperate for for season upon season. Can't get excited about this at all. Isn't this exactly against what Rangnick said we should be doing? Brazilians aren't necessarily known for their longevity either. Awful planning and management as usual by United.
Maybe a tad?
Holy shit that is some grim reading!

Excellent post. I share the same sentiments tbh. He’s a top player but this signing shows we haven’t learnt anything and we don’t have a strategy. We’re going to pay 60million for a 30 year old on big wages. It will be fine for now but why aren’t we finding the next Casemiro. Why aren’t we thinking long term. We constantly make these signings. Don’t get me wrong we could do with this guy and let’s hope he’s a modric who can play at the top level for the next 5/6 years but what if he isn’t? Then what?
anyone can pick Casemiro out of a crowd.. what the hell are our recruitment teams doing out there. Anyone of us could say sign this guy. we just keep buying superstars. Obvious transfers.
dont Get me wrong; he’s a top player, this post is more on the side of questioning our recruitment team. So many young and up and coming DMS have been sold this summer.. why didn’t we get one or two of them for the same price ? What are these guys doing?
From a respectable man like yourself?
So we should try for more of the FdJ ones?Excellent post. I share the same sentiments tbh.
Feels very much like a videogame type of signing. Too easy and obvious
McTominay winning out with those 1 yard passes.

Right now, United needs a jolt to the system. Casemiro in and Ronaldo out would do just that. A world class DM fixing our biggest issue over the past 5 years. If he plays like he does for Madrid and Brazil and brings the same attitude, then we'll be able to actually start planning instead of panicking and fixing massive issues every summer. Ten Hag needs time. He won't get time if he doesn't have a top DM in. We are changing our whole recruitment setup, so they also need time. Hell, Murtaugh has failed massively but he needs time too.
You literally replied "how boring" to my points about his wage packet and our transfer strategy what have you brought to the discussion?
McTominay winning out with those 1 yard passes.
the dreaded readying a bid stage.....wtaf does that even mean anymore for United and players of interest
I don’t mind paying a lot for someone like Casemiro, he’s class, also we have to get fleeced for a little bit now (thanks Ed, and Judge), until we are more competitive, then we would have more pull power, and are not as desperate in general.
