Yeah, but you can have your cake and eat it too. You need good footballers who want to play for United, which usually means their intentions for joining are for football reasons. I am not saying about De Jong because who knows, but plenty of good footballers have been and gone over the last 10 years, leaving as failures because they were with United for the wrong reasons. Just being a good footballer is not enough in many cases.

Above all else United needs quality players. Players rarely move if they don’t want to, De Jong is a shining example of this. If he ends up here it’s because he wanted to be here.

Good players have come and left as failures because United has been a badly run club. Signing players with no idea of how to use them, comical managerial appointments with no easily verifiable nor consistent way of setting up a team, poor training and recovering infrastructure etc and a bunch of stuff that supersedes “being here for the wrong reasons”. Casemiro is class and his motivation for improving us whilst being brilliant is the optimum combination to return us to the top.

He is world class though. He’s one of the best central midfielders in the world.

The beautiful thing about this story is how perfect a move it’s currently turning out for the player. It’s crystal clear now that despite gaining high praise in his career, he’s been simultaneously underrated by the majority. If this spell continues, he’s gonna cement his individual legacy far more than he would have done by staying at Madrid.

Souness is full of shit. He says that Casemiro isn't world class because that kind of player would get into every team in the world. Well if memory serves, Casemiro was a starter on a 5-time-CL-winning Real Madrid team. So unless Souness is claiming that Casemiro isn't the player he once was (which would pretty much contradict the rest of his article in which he basically says Casemiro has been better than he expected), he's clearly just engaging in some kind of bizarre, face-saving exercise.
I have no idea what Real's reasons were for selling Casemiro - maybe it was much the same as Liverpool's reasons for selling Mane (who I'm sure Souness would label world class,) but I thank god every day that they chose to do so.
Curious player. Casmeiro’s not an specialist ballwinner like makele or Kante. Nor is he a deep lying play-maker like Pirlo or Jorginho. And he is definitely not an advanced, creative midfielder like Modric, Kdb.
He really seems to be a throwback to the olden days of a complete midfielder who is expected to do everything- defending, tackling, ball carrying, sliding through balls, playing long passes, etc. Seems like Keane or Paddy Vieira

For us he's having to do the work of two midfielders because our other midfielders are poor defensively and positionally, but at Real he was pretty much a specialist ball winner which enabled Modric and Kroos to create all over the pitch.
Real had a quite old midfield three and Casemiro apparently liked a new challenge. It made sense to use that opportunity to rejuvenate their midfield.
Slight improvement on steady eddie,however just come out with this criticism in days before league game at Anfield.Believe me Souness you do not want to put the fire into this guy.

he averages 3.1 tackles per game and 1.8 interceptions per game in his career, totalling 4.9
the defending specialist Kante averages 3.0 tackles per game and 2.3 interceptions per game in his career, totalling 5.3, just slightly higher than Casemiro
to the contrary the so called "good at defending" McTominay averages 1.5 tackles aand 1.0 interceptions per game, totally 2.5, almost half of Casemiro's stats

They wanted to keep him, could’ve easily use him alongside Tchouameini/Camavinga as Kroos/Modric wind down. He was adamant to leave to experience the PL while still in his peak.

Normally, Souness can speak from a position of authority by being better than the player he’s digging out, but he may well have bitten off more than he can chew here because Casemiro has claim to being better than Souness himself, and if not so, comfortably in the bracket for that discussion to be had.
This one could be his undoing if fans decide to point that out to him or get under his skin with it. For once, he’s talking about a more decorated player, too, so he really should be avoiding this one.
