Very disappointing performance from him , looked very lethargic and unfit.

He has high standards and will know himself that performance is not good enough.

The drop off in his performance levels as compared to Madrid are so big I think it's clear he's just not fully comfortable in the team yet. He spent the guts of the last 10 years at one club playing. He needs time here.

I get the idea not many people have watched Casemiro before. This is not a good performance from him, but its not an odd one or particularly bad.
Absolutely spot on. I was wondering why people are acting so surprised and shocked ?

Having said that, I still feel he would be fine but not the crazy hyped up version people thought he would be.

He seems extremely slow and erratic, his passing has been dross. Worried this might has been a huge mistake.

When I watched him in the CL final he was a completely completely different player. Covering huge amounts of ground and spraying quick forwars passes. Surely this is an anomaly?

It’s his first full match in this team. He’s not settled and he’s a shade below full match fitness. He will be just as you saw in the CL final. Some of the time, at least. The rest of the time he will be better than McT.

He was very bad, and I hope it's because he's not fit. He was skinned multiple times and gave away some very simple passes. ETH continuing to start McT makes a lot of sense after watching this performance.

Playing with two goats in Modric and Kroos is a very different proposition to who he’ll be playing with in our midfield.

Can we just have one fecking month where people don’t lose their collective shit and start panicking at the first sign of difficultly? He’s a new player coming into a new team playing in a new system under a new manager in a new league. Off the ball I can already see that he’s world class. Sniffs danger out like no player we have had since Carrick. On the ball I agree he was pretty erratic and poor but maybe the fact he’s settling in might be a bigger contributing factor rather than declaring him shite, finished and the worst transfer ever. Can’t stand the reactionary nature of modern football at times.

He played with the same two midfielders in front of him for years, he probably knew instinctually where they'd be whenever he made the pass. He just has to get on the same page as the midfielders here

With some of his passes, he showed great awareness. The other passes were bad. Clearly the quality is there and it is just a matter of bedding him into a new team.

Casemiro tonight

Think it’s a bit daft spending mega-money on any thirty year-old. Nunes would have been a better signing for midfield. But, I think Casemiro will be okay in time.

I wouldn’t worry too much about his pace across the ground. I am very worried about how slow he was on the turn. He was getting absolutely rinsed by any Real player who who used even a basic trick or skill to get away from him. Which is kind of a disaster for the position he plays. That back heel nutmeg was an absolute humiliation.

His passing was really bad too I thought. Even his completed passes were often behind the receiver or horribly weighted.

What's got me is that I didn't think a player like him could play like that. A fighter like he supposedly is. I was seeing shades of Anderson tonight with his laid back approach. I thought after a poor first half he'd be wound up and come out swinging in the second half, but he somehow got worse. You expect these sorts of players to put a shift in or to spoil what the opponent tries to do if the rest of their game is failing them. But they had a bit of a field day with him really.

I don't think we'll see much of him starting in the league until he comes good in these games. If he's playing like that he's not even much use to close down games we're leading from the bench.

Really poor tonight.

Looked incredibly cumbersome in terms of doing his main job as a midfield anchor. Slow to react and cover ground. Made a Horlicks of passes he should be making as well.

Hopefully he's just lacking sharpness and adaptation...

Genuinely think him and McTominay should be playing together, with Eriksen.
We have an obvious weak link in that “team that picks itself” and that is Jadon Sancho.
Move Bruno to the left, Antony on the right, Rashford up top, Cas, McTominay and Eriksen in the middle, sorted.

Yeah, when I said I wasn't too excited about singing a 30 year old player for so much money I got the usual abuse, we have just signed the best DM on the planet shut up etc.
Madrid bought a 22 year old DM to replace Casemiro for 80m.
To be fair I think you were far from the only one that wasn't thrilled at this profile of signing, from Real Madrid of all clubs. I wasn't enthused by it but you have to think he will play better than this and become more useful. We just paid too much for his age and the type of player he is in my opinion, at Madrid he had all the guile in the world around him and he could just play a niche role very well. Theres a lot that will be asked of him here so it will be interesting to see.

Was not up to it tonight. He’ll need a few matches before finding his top rhythm.

He has not looked convincing. Right now it looks like Real Madrid, and Casemiro's bank account, got the better of the deal by far.

Remember when everyone was bitching and moaning about how Martinez was going to get bullied by every ST in the league after Brentford? Wasn't that after a game and a half, seems to have turned it round, almost like such a small sample size isn't enough to judge a player.

What do you mean by this? That he's never been that player or that you don't think the motivation is there for him to be like that for us?
Motivation is no issue for him. He is a true professional and will always give his all. What I mean is that Casemiro has always been slow and always been giving away the possession. Not at the levels of today but not that far either. He’s never been that good with pressing especially if the game is fast. He had been playing with the kroos and Modric and his role was just that, limited. Here, though I do like the player but feel he will be exposed more just like today, partly because of the pace week in week out and partly because lack of quality midfield partners.

Also, I do feel his role will be different as he will be asked to do much more with and without the ball under ten hag and I’m afraid he would come up short if not paired with better midfielders who can control the game.

I'll let you all off as you've only seen him play one full game for us at this point, but come back to me in a couple of months and you'll have realised my prediction was completely accurate. He's finished at this level and we are in big trouble if we plan on making him our first choice DM.

Do we get to ban you if you are wrong then?

He always starts slow but would be a machine in the second half of the season.

This.

The current generation of posters seems to have 'super-hero' expectations of their players or managers. They either have to be superheroes immediately or they are shite. The same goes for academy players.

Everything seems binary or linear.

This ain't the movies. Like anything in life, everything takes time and will be full of speed bumps along the way.

I was there tonight about 10 rows back in N1411 and Quesadilla made a little run and put a cross in right infront of me and he looked so slow and awkward, there seems to be nothing in him even over 10 yards. His arse might rival Shaw's for biggest in the squad. If Shaw looked that big and he often did he'd be getting stick for it.

Mctominay, for now at least, has nothing to worry about.
60 million well spent

I wasn't a fan of this signing. Signing old farts on huge money leaves everyone with little room to maneuver. Anyway hope he comes good.
