Would you please stop crying about Casemiro already and let our manager - manage ? He's got enough credit from me to do so.

With all due respect to Casemiro, right now he looks rusty and out of shape just like Ronaldo is and ETH probably wants to introduce him into the team slowly so why rush it ? Especially when Scott playing better than usual right now.

I think McT also plays because he offers aerial protection to our defence where all are short except Varane.
Case is actually really good in the air too. But yeah, can’t really drop a local lad who’s actually playing well, no matter who the other guy is.

I don’t like it. Some of you will say it’s a good sign the manager is making everyone fight for their place etc. but when we’ve done this in the past we’ve been desperate for quality in the relevant position and just wondered why the hell we bought the player we are refusing to play? Then they end up being a big flop. Van De Beek, Mkhitaryan…

‘refusing’ to play?

It would send very wrong signals to bench McT after playing so well and after several wins. This is probably the main reason. But even if Casemiro is great in the air, McT has been acting like a third CB at times and also been very valuable at corners. The team is full of short guys and him being 193 cm is valuable at setpieces.

Personally I think McT has been great in his role, but don’t see how we could dominate the midfield with him. Casemiro’s average level is higher than McT’s peak but it also comes down to what kind of football we want to play.

Nothing like the situations you describe

Right, we've no idea what the situation is like at the moment. I'm sure it could just be a fitness thing, easing him in then he will soon become instrumental. I'm just saying I've thought the same with signings in the past who can't get in the team, and they end up never being regulars and fade into nothing.

Please never compare casemiro to those two again

we needed to improve the midfield then scotty started playing out of his skin
So would you drop a player who is outperforming the star signing just to satisfy said star signing?
is that you Mr Glazier

I am fully prepared to trust ETH on this and other matters.
He seems to know what he's doing, eh?

Well we’ve been told what the situation is by Ten Hag himself?

Yes they would, then they will moan why the players don't fight for the shirt to be picked on merit, can't win with these type of people.

It’s madness isn’t it, no pleasing people. Don’t get me wrong I’d love it if casemiro came in and absolutely bossed every game but that isn’t really his game and he will need to get to grips with our tactics and the speed of the prem (like so many midfielders do)
Im delighted Mctom is performing at a level I didn’t think he had, gives us options and a bit of depth in the squad.

instead of VDB id counter and say it’s likely more Evra and Vidic to compare, quality players who just needed time to adjust out of the lime light

I think it is a factor that’s helping to keep him in the team. He’s played well compared to his usual self but I feel Casemiro looked a lot better despite the rustiness. There’s just no need to rush him in.

That sounds so daft.

My point is I have zero confidence in our transfers working out, because if I’d have said “shit signing” on here following every signing in the past 10 years, and been attacked by every fan saying “will take time etc.”, I’d probably have a 90% accuracy rate.

The fact is though, signings do take time and I’m not just writing a player off because we’ve been shit in the market for 10 years. I’m just saying I’m wary about these signings when they aren’t getting game time. Helps so much when players are at least given the chance to hit the ground running.

Andy Robertson didn’t play a game when he signed for Liverpool for a good 6 months. It’s a very dumb metric to use.

Not sure I agree, he looked sharp on his debut and competent if the odd mistake in his second appearance. I dont think it was a case of rustyness or out of shape, more one of the quickest passing high tempo sides in the premiership and he struggled coming on late with the tempo.

Personally, I was surprised he didnt start as thought he was very important in such a game....but the faith Ten Hag has put in McTominay so far at least has been justified, despite being a limited player, he has done well the last couple of games, so I agree with the sentiment maybe not the reasoning beind him being on the bench though

Yep I’m not using it as a metric to argue that he’s going to fail though. I’m using it to justify my insecurity. Hardly being reassured by you using Robertson as an example, a player playing for a club with a 90% success rate in the market.

I mean our transfer policy has been so shambolic in recent years, it’s a possibility that Ten Hag doesn’t even want him. I’m sure that’s not true and he’s being eased in, but all I was saying originally is it makes me nervous, given our recent record, that we’ve signed somehow so good and we’re not playing them.

I’d say you’re completely justified in your concerns, given our transfer track record over the past ten years.

Anyone dismissing you out of turn must have blinders on, but hey ho. As long as we’re winning games, I’m not complaining if we have the world’s most expensive bench warmers!

At the time they didn’t. That was the summer it really turned around for Liverpool, their transfer committee was famously ridiculed throughout the game at that point.

Wow people are writing this guy off or any player and saying he's finished not even after 1 start, but 3 sub appearances that is a total 51 mins of game time. It must be a record surely

A player who hasn't had a pre season with the squad to be integrated with the system and hasn't played under ten hag before unlike Martinez and Antony, and I hear people complaining he doesn't start and then cry after he comes off the bench in the last 15-20 minutes and isn't bossing the game, making 5 assists and scoring hattricks, after we are trying to preserve a lead

I even hear some conspiracies on fan channel that say he was forced on to ten hag, and is not even in his plans, even though the manager explained the reasons for him not starting straight away before the game.
Goldbridge?

To me, Cashmere isn’t looking sharp yet when he played, and that why he didn’t start yet. He will probably start soon.

McTominay is doing well, so Casemiro will have to do better to play him out of the team.

I hate to say it but am I ever wrong about a new signing. This guy is finished, Madrid sold us a dud. No wonder Ten Hag doesn't start him. He doesn't suit the type of football Ten Hag wants to play. He's a destroyer type DM and what we need is a possession based DM like Carrick/Busquets. It's another 60m down the drain and he'll probably just be a last 10 minutes off the bench player which is what he should be at most. Early days I know but I don't think he's going to be a good player for us, he's another player that lacks mobility like Maguire and they struggle in the premier league. Clearly he's not as immobile as Maguire, but he's not the quickest and not the youngest which is going to cause him problems.

What are your thoughts about our other signings?

It's early days I know, but I'll be proven right unfortunately. I've never been wrong in my judgement.

Why have I only just seen all these?  Bloody hell.

This thread is unbelievable. He’s played a few minutes minutes for us FFS. We’ve watched him anchor the Madrid midfield for years. He’s proven world class, relax lads.

 The guy has played a whole 2 minutes for us. Relax. He barely played for Madrid before finalising his move, missing match fitness and Scott is playing very well in the minute. There is no need to rush him at all.

For all the talk of him not being ready to start, I think we'll find he will only get to the right level by playing from the start a couple of times at least. Sociedad and Sheriff, with another sub appearance at the weekend in between. By the Leeds game we'll get a better picture of where he's at.

But he's never wrong about a new signing. NEVER.

Correct.

I really want to ask you and everybody else who quoted and ridiculed my post, to come back here at the end of the season to admit how poor Casemiro has been, but I'm genuinely caught it two minds as I don't want to be here hoping to be proven right as that means he will have been a poor signing. I want him to succeed as a player us. I don't want us carrying another expensive flop in the first team like we have done Maguire purely keeping their places due to what we paid for them.

Anyway, let's hope I'm wrong, but it would be a first.

I'm also confused as to how I'm still stuck on two likes with such high quality posts.

Confirmation bias

Maybe the Dunning-Kruger effect

He's going to start on Thursday I'm sure of it, an hour or so of football under his belt will do him the world of good. Come October I fully expect him to be a regular starter
