Carlos Soler is the midfielder we are scouting most now.

Is he really that good? Any regular Valencia watchers?

Not an avid Valencia watcher, but so far all I've seen from him doesn't strike me as special or Manchester United level.

He'll be 21 in January, and I think he lacks in first touch (to Spanish standards I mean, he doesn't hold a candle to guys like Mata or Silva that I've seen brought up here) and if being 21 he's still green at first touch coming from the Spanish youth system, he probably won't improve much.

He also seems to let the ball run a little further than optimal in conduction, it would be fine if he was quicker or stronger, but that means the moment you put some weight from muscle on him he becomes a clunkier player and probably loses some of that "shining" he does have in his game. I don't want to sound harsh but with his level at his age I don't think he'll break into the European elite /top 8 UCL teams, and that's what United should be striving for.

At his age, you could see some quirks and polished traits in all the other typical Spanish midfielder maestros like Xavi, Iniesta, Silva, Thiago, Mata or even Fabregas and Arteta. He feels halfway there compared to those guys at similar age, kind of a Andre Gomes situation (well, probably not that bad). If United really desire one of Valencia's best pieces this season, Guedes seems a way better player and has that special aura while being only two months older.

I'm not a big fan of his. He reminds me of Suso but not as good. Very direct players who don't just cut inside - they can beat a man down the flanks and put in a good cross. Suso's just more consistent (to be fair, he is a bit older) and further along in his development. I'd prefer him for our right side.

He is compared to David Silva. His strengths are:- Dribbling, Holding onto the ball, Quick thinking, Through ball, and a free kick specialist.

My mate says that In Spain they rate him very highly and think he is a future star in the making.

I watched the game last night and I didn't notice him playing until he came off. Guedes on the other hand was running the show, fast and aggressive on the ball.

He's on loan there from psg...

Let's face it... he's not going to be first choice at PSG. He would do much better playing here and playing under fellow Portuguese. He would light up the RW which Mata and Lingard have simply failed to do.

I've watched Valencia a few times this season and he's just... there, doing his job to a decent standard. I don't see much to suggest we should be breaking the bank to sign him, Saul is the Spanish midfielder you want to be spending big on.

I don't see him as a D.Silva type. For one, he's not good at holding onto the ball when pressed as he's never in full control of the ball. He's like Rashford or Mkhi in that the ball isn't glued to his feet - it's always a bit away so it's easy to dispossess him. I also think he's a lot more direct than Silva.

I don't see him as anything special really.

Independent reckon he is on the wanted list for mourinho but will wait till summer as funds will be limited in winter and we will want fullbacks first. Nonetheless more and more reports of him being wanted by us.

If there's any player that I would like us to get from the current Valencia team, it would be Guedes. PS: I know he's on loan from PSG. We don't need Soler, we need Goretzka and Savic. Savic a more than enough back up for Matic and Goretzka could play in 3 man midfield without the need for a No. 10.

------- Pogba -------------- Goretzka --------
------------------ Savic/ Matic -----------------

Isn't Savic more of a CAM/CM style player? I didn’t think he was much of a defensive midfielder.

Yeah I agree but I see Savic progressing like Matic.... and being a faster and robust version of Matic.

Certainly need someone brought in as without Pogba we would find it hard to get into top 4. IMO.

Recall Pereira and sign Soler? - For a January transfer window I think that would be amazing business.

I'm so surprised that this guy's thread is so quiet. He is an absolute gem ... a proper box to box midfielder who can pass, score (especially last 2 seasons) and tackle at a high level. He is a fighter, runs all day long and is perceived as a leader of the team. He can play in a 2/3 man midfield.

He plays for an unstable team with owners and players considered even worse than United. His contract expires next year and I'd honestly have him over Tchouemani at Madrid.

Isn't there reports today he's Barca bound?

Maybe I'm wrong here but hasn't he been playing much more advanced this season? We've got a lot to fix this season and not sure we can afford to go for him when we have Van de Beek and Fernandes who could be really good under better coaching.

I heard barca is after him.
If they're in the mix, we have no chance.

I agree. He's so good with the ball too. A bit surprised he hasn't been linked with City to be honest, but they're not exactly lacking in that area either. My personal dream midfield would be a 4-3-3 with De Jong as the deep lying playmaker and Tchouameni and Carlos Soler/Fabian Ruiz as the other two midfielders.

Barca are linked to everyone (including Erling and Di Maria!!!) after the season they've had.
Don't think they can offer him the wages United can. Not to mention playing time - he'd have to share time with Pedri/Gavi/De Jong for 2 positions.

Valencia have played 4-4-2, 3-4-3 and 3-5-2 this season. He plays in the middle as a box-to-box midfielder with Guillamon (another good player) sitting behind him.

We'll see, he's just not the type we go for and frankly I haven't watched enough of him to know whether he's worth the hype or not.
