Can we get anything out of the Liverpool game?

Even if we park the bus I don't think this group of players have the passion or intelligence on how to approach the game to get a result. At old Trafford we were playing 5 yard passes from a goal kick against arguably the best high pressing team in the league. I fear we won't learn from this and a similar result is incoming.

i think our best bet is to wake up the next day and claim it wasn’t consensual.

.............................. DDG
Lindelöf... Varane... Maguire... Baily... Dalot
............... Matic.... Jones..
...................... Bruno
........... Elanga..... Ronaldo
Since Scott and Fred are injured, put Phil Jones as DM together with Matic. We have nothing to lose. This might work in a once off game raising match.
Honestly this is the best idea but instead of Bruno I would play pogba for this game but tell him to imagine he’s still the only dm. A break leaking to getting the ball to elanga who can find Ronaldo is the best option.

It'll be 4-1 to Liverpool

Anything below a 2 goal difference spank would be a good result IMO.

Our defense is shit and Liverpool's attack is on fire. Hopefully we don't get another humilliation, two in the same season would be too much to take.

3-5-2 with 7 defenders on the pitch, bruno, and 2 speed merchants. Then pull an atletico like performance with tons of playacting and violence, and hopefully we'll just lose by 2 goals.
Our players don’t have the mentality for violence.
unless it was a monetary bonus in their contracts

I’m hoping for a shock result. The thing is, the worst part of our team is the defence and that’s going to come under immense pressure. And that will probably crumble like a dried out sand castle.

The worst part is that I can't even think where the shock results could come from? We got absolutely nothing to hurt them in the attack and our defence is in shambles.

The best results we could hope for is a freak draw where Liverpool miss chances after chances while DDG produce world class save after world class save.

Points? No.

lessons? Sure.

I'd say it's a 90% chance we lose, 10% chance of draw or win.

If players like Rashford give 100%, and everyone else gives 100%, then yes we can. But I doubt that he would and the rest of the players like Pogba would give 100%.

No chance.

They play with such a high tempo and the game could easily be over in 10-15 mins.

Our play is too slow and pedestrian, and we will be taught a lesson.

A few years ago you could make a case for us having a decent chance. Over the last couple of years ans the whipping we've taken this season, the thought of us getting a point sounds laughable which tells just how poor a side we are. And the fact that we even have a sniff of top 4 shows that this is a really poor league right now.

Ralf has to surprise everyone. What has he got to lose? Play Bailly and Jones too. Play Maguire as CF and get him to sort out Van Dijk.

Two banks sitting deep; play only on the counter, relying on the infamous moment of individual brilliance?

Lots of talk about the cricket score they'll rack up, can it go any other way?

How would you approach the game?

I'd go full Mourinho for this one, personally. We're not going to do anything in a game of football. Does Rangnick have it in him to be a shithouse?

It's amazing, how far we have fallen. I remember Steve Bruce saying how Liverpool fans judged their successes by our failures. Now, the shoe is on the other foot. I agree with those who say that it is 11v 11 and as such anything is possible. The fact is that to beat Liverpool we will have to produce a quality of performance the likes of which we have simply not been able to produce for years. Every one of our players would need to play out of their skin or we would need to have one of those games where they batter us for 90+ minutes and we break free and score. If we go toe to toe with Liverpool we will be destroyed. Simple as that.

The first half v City yesterday showed that Liverpool have gears to shift into that we simply do not have. Realistically, I would be content with a respectable defeat something like 2-0. Personally I cannot see anything like the 0-5 beating that we received at OT. That said, let's face it, Liverpool and City are levels above us and Liverpool will be absolutely buzzing off beating City at Wembley. This is not a time to be playing Liverpool.

In this scenario, I'd like to believe we can be the 'game raising #%^£' we've gone on about with other teams for so many years.

Ultimately, it may just be a bridge too far for us, but if there's any pride in this collective, they give it their all to try and thwart the scousers.

It mightn't be enough, but it would be satisfying if we've given them a game.

I agree. If we had the the likes of Keane, Neville, Schmeichel, Ferdinand, Rooney and Scholes I might be inclined to believe that the team would play for the pride of the shirt and give a worthy account of themselves. Having said that, if we had the the likes of Keane, Neville, Schmeichel, Ferdinand, Rooney and Scholes, we would not be in this mess to begin with. I think our current squad need to rediscover what it means to be Manchester United players. They fact that we are even musing over whether or not they will 'turn up' on Tuesday only serves to highlight the state of affairs we are in.

I would put individual marking on Salah. Pick someone to focus only on him all game.

That way, we might be able to avoid a bigger loss than 2-0.

Backs to the wall rally?

I'll be even more disappointed with these players if they roll over tonight.

We have absolutely zero chance of anything other than a straightforward defeat. Liverpool have bigger fish to fry and they humiliated us once already this season so I imagine it'll be an uneventful 2-0.

Weird how people talk in absolutes in football, phrases like "zero chance" and "no chance."

Yet every single season will throw up surprise results nobody saw coming. Maybe it just seems clever to act like the oracle while giving obvious results. It's a lot more accurate to talk in probabilities, it is very unlikely we'll get a result.

But we have a few things we can harness. Not wanting to get smashed again should focus minds. The fact nobody is expecting anything means we can play a strategy of trying to frustrate them and use their expectation and necessity of a win to our advantage. We have to defend compactly, have pace up front and take the few chances we get.

It's funny, as you'll get some uber sh!thouse team like Burnley or Norwich skank a result to a top team every so often.

Yet I don't for even one moment think we have that in us.

We just conceded as many chances to Norwich...Norwich (!) at home, as they'll have had in 6 games.

Without McFred you wonder who is going to stem the tide in the middle. Our only chance will be a real shut out job, Wan Bissaka in, told not to go beyond the half way line, Matic patrolling a few yards in front of the centre backs, and hope punting it to Rashford somehow gets us somewhere.

I think i'll have it on a second screen tonight as it could be carnage.

Our only hope is if everyone plays all out for Ronaldo. If we play like we also do, and nothing special, then 3-0 is inevitable really.

I think the 5-0 might just work in our favour here. We know they have had a few tough games in the last 10 days and regardless of how respectful Klopp may be in the media you know there is no way that they can not be thinking we are a soft touch and so hopefully that will translate into a tired and sloppy performance from a team that thinks they will only have to turn up to win.

If the above does come true we still need a slice of luck and a return to the heights of Oleball. Our fullbacks are gash so we need to reduce their defensive workload and that means bringing Bailly or Jones in alongside Slab and Vicky to play a back 3 and then I would go for AWB over Dalot as he is faster and better in the tackle. in front of that we need to play a 3 of Pogba, Matic and Bruno and they need to be disciplined. We don't need them getting dragged all over the park, Liverpool will play a high line with tons of space in behind so we need the midfielders to look for opportunities to play the ball over the top for our attackers to run onto. I would use Elanga and Rashford up top as regardless of form they are the paciest attackers we have and speed is the key to making this strategy work.

If we can manage to execute the above a smash and grab 1-0 is possible even if unlikely but it is out best bet as anything more adventurous or attacking is likely to see us get well and truly smashed.

DDG

AWB Vicky Bailly Slab Telles

Matic Pogba

Bruno

Elanga Rashford

Weird thing is , if we had Ole,Mourinho we might have the fire to do something but with Ralf it's vacation time

I think our injury crisis is being underplayed here. Our best 2 defenders, our most solid midfielders and our most potent goalscorer (plus Greenwood and Cavani) are out of the game.

If Liverpool had Van Dijk, TAA, Henderson, Fabinho, Jota and Salah out then we may even have a slight chance. Yes they're all better players but they're the direct equivalents to the team.

No chance.

A lesson would imply we will learn something from it, we won't. We will get totally fecked though.

Yeah, we're currently like Arsenal in the late Wenger era. No organisation, mixed bag of 'not good enough/weak/lazy' players and very easy to play against. You just know that we're going to get humped by anybody half-decent.

The poor sides are organised, sit-deep and work hard at least, hence why occasionally they grab a freak result

I just hope we can at least hold out the first 10mins.
An early goal will lead to an absolutely miserable watch

The reverse fixture was probably the most tactically inept I've ever seen United. So it can't be any worse than that.

I often think this. A side like Palace or Burnley might go to anfield or Abu Dhabi fc in the run in and get a point. Hard to see our current bunch do anything but underwhelm like at the etihad a few weeks ago. We're so predictably limp

The thing with these crap limited teams, is that they'll have a number of super fit, brave, hard working players who will put maximum effort in.

I can see it now, a decent first minute or so, Rashy having a chance, but we quickly revert to type, and Pogba trying to hold 3 players off 30 yards out, losing it, and ...actually, I'm trying not to think about this for a couple of hours :D

The only small x-factor here is the derby thing. Can it motivate our players just that little bit more? Can we make the game more intense and messy, to disrupt Liverpool?

No, probably not. Everything points to us losing by 3 or more.
