Can we catch arsenal?

definately i think we will our next 8 games straight or at least seven as long as we are within 3 points by the time we play em we can definately do it

I reckon we're going to have to beat them at Highbury if we are to win the league.

All that needs to happen is for them to draw a game more than us, and us to do them at Highbury.
Oh sweet revenge

Arsenal won't win every game for the rest of the season, and they'll still get injuries, remember we're only just over half way through the season. Its up to us to keep the pressure on and win our own games.

We were saying the very same thing last season, although that was with about 10 or so games to play (they didn't drop a point)... They still have champions luck (we're getting it now too). Hopefully the scousers and Newcastle will get some points of them.

You've answered yourself there.

I did. Hopefully is the keyword. Just being realistic here, but Arsenal look less prone to dropping points to small teams and we have to face Newcastle and Liverpool too. Still favorites, but I don't rule us out.

Personally I think it's doubtful you will overhaul us .

At the moment with your recent performances v Sunderland and yesterday you 're hanging on to our tails by the skin of your teeth, you won't keep getting that last minute winner .

The next month will decide imo - we both have some awkward fixtures . I'd say if you can come to the first of March level then it's all on but if this gap stays the same then I fancy we will disappear over the hill, especially if you make one slip up, a la Blackb or Middlsbro.

It's a reversal of past recent years where we seem to be dealing with the 'lesser' teams better than you .

Until the last couple of years you've always been good at wacking everybody under 5/6th place but losing to us and others. Although we enjoyed the victories over you your overall consistancy kept you ahead and winning the title .

I'd say we've now acquired that habit .

Would be surprising if anyone else now came into the frame .

I think yesterday put an end to Chelsea (although they hardly deserve it after outplaying both you and us in the last three weeks !!)

Well done yesterday though, great team spirit I thought although tactically I think Fergy outdid Ranieri who should have left things as they were imo , rather than hand the impetus to you through Veron and Forlan who I have to say took the goal brilliantly , great pass from Seb .

It's getting interesting I'd say that

;) ;)

Good post, Jopub. You can put across that you think you'll beat us to the title without coming across like a nob. Gillespie should take note.

Arsenal's next 6 games are - @Liverpool, Fulham, @Newcastle, @Man City, Charlton, @Blackburn

Ours - @Southampton, @Birmingham, Man City, @Bolton, Leeds, @Villa

Fair to say we are both bound to drop points somewhere among those, though I think we may close the gap by 2 or 3 points.

Mmmm out of that lot I'd say away to Pool and Newcastle we will drop points and you will do well to beat Saints ( although yesterday they were more like the 'old Southampton !) and I think City will not be easy to beat as it will be their 'cup final' this year .

Saying that you'll probably get done by Bolton and Villa and us by Charlton and Fulham !!!

Spose that's the beauty of it really , that anyone having a good day can turn the best over

At the moment we'll be lucky to get anything at St James's (nobody has for ages) but I thought that last year untill Dennis had other ideas.!

jopub

good post but i wouldnt say chelsea outplayed us, i thought they were better in the first half but we were much better in the second half and could have scored 4 times.

I watched it and I'd say you hardly had a kick in the first half . And apart from the first ten and last five minutes of the second half they were very comfortable with you.

I had this discussion with a friend of mine today , a Chelsea fan and we agreed that they lack nothing in quality all over the pitch especially in Gallas , a defender I wish we had alongside Sol, but they do lack that inner total belief that they WILL get through it .

We and you both have it but they just do not . It's why they lose a game like yesterday when they should have got at the least a point .

Still that's their problem

;)

We can catch Arsenal but they will need to go through another dodgy spell and we will need to put in very consistent winning performances until the end of the season. No more really bad results like Blackburn and Middlesbrough which nearly killed off our chances altogether. Ruud will need to recapture his goalscoring form which seems to have mysteriously deserted him at the moment and Giggs will have to get his form back quickly. Those two getting back into top gear are vital if we are to overhaul Arsenal.

of course not! I am just here to annoy all of u! maybe u think u r going 2 catch us but that's out of the question. (i just registered here several minutes ago to make all of u disgraced.) u have a long time to suffer. as Thierry Henry made his second Hat trick of the season hes up with 17 goals. how about van nisterlooy then(mistpelt) sorry.

Finally! A Gooner who is not so caught up in the " we are better than you, we will be champions again."
I have to agree Jopub. One slip up could mean trouble, whether it be United or Arsenal. The rematch in Highbury will be a great one.
:D

Probably not , agree there . And yes you are more than capable of squeezing a 5 points gap down .

However when the quality of both teams is as it is right now would you want to give a 5 point start to us or vice versa .

I'll be honest if you said

14 games to go and we start off 5 points in front (&12 goals + difference) and a trip to OT , I'd not fancy it .

5 pts plus the g/diff is two full wins .

Definitely Utd can do it but the odds are beginning to move against you as the games run out.

I don't think you'll catch us doing a 'Keegan' and handing it on a plate.

Should you fall one more loss behind I cannot see you getting back, which is why I feel if we fial it will have to be soon to give you the impetus to take over .

Us away to Pool and Newcastle could reveal a lot . I've got my fingers crossed for 2pts from those games

:D ;)

I have a feeling we'll overhaul Arsenal soon. :D

Arsenal despite what 3 million "lifelong" gooners think, are a bit lacking in the drive department. Nothing I have seen from them this season suggests that, for all their skill and panache (which they have in spades), they have the toughness to mix it up with the best.

I still believe that a team with equal skill and a tough approach will beat Arsenal anyday. There aren't many teams that can do this in England (just us so far this season), so I wouldn't rule them out from winning the league, but I doubt they can win the CL. And that is the prize to fight for.

been busy bringing a new little pub into the world, well more accurately my lovely wife's done that very difficult bit ! and I've been busy getting by on three different time zones since !!!

His name funnily enough IS Joseph - Jojopub ! I'm getting him to sleep as I write this left handed and he has just gurgled that he thinks we might retain the title if we're lucky !.

Even at ten weeks old they are beginning to make sense
:D !

Got his first Gunners kit at Xmas !

God I did not know typing with the wrong hand could be so cumbersome!

Won't make a habit of it

Of course we can catch them. Five points is not much of a gap. No one would have expected West Ham to get anything today but with a bit of luck and a different interpretation of some incidents by the ref they could have nicked a point. There's a lot of confidence in both sides so it could go either way. We just have to keep the pressure up. If they slip, we'll be waiting. If they don't, they'll deserve to win it.

Congratultions on bringing another Gooner into the world. My task is educated my three on the glories of Arsenal, in the face of the overwhelming preference around here for gridiron football--especially the 49ers and Raiders. One of these days I'll have to spring the big bucks to take the "little ones" to England to gather in the atmosphere and, especially, to make fun of Uncle Mick the West Brom fan.

Anymore talk of bringing extra Gooners into the world and they'll ban us Fres !

_____________

Today was a joke - referee destroyed the game sending Lomas off .

It's a bad rule and should be changed , yellow card fine but to leave a team one down for giving away a penalty is ridiculous - the penalty is punishment enough.

To be honest I thought West Ham were going to trouble us today but after that it was just a matter of time .

if Henry gets injured you are pretty fecked

sure you do have other quality strikers, but without him, Arsenal is not the same

p.s. I am not hoping a player of yours gets injured so don't go all kenny on me.

if we were 5 points ahead of the pack in mid-january, would we think that we could be caught? - of course we would .
there's 45 points to play for until the end of the season, so 5 points isn't meaningful.
but the longer this gap continues, the more difficult it will get.
what's important is that we keep winning our games. the pressure's on arse much more than us - when you're ahead and know that all you've got to do is keep winning the pressure mounts up. even if a team's 10 points clear, the moment it gets into their head that it doesn't really matter if they lose the next game, then they're done for.
if we chase and don't catch, then its important for us to finish 2nd, not 3rd or worse. 2nd qualifies for CL proper, and will be an improvement on last year.
the match at highbury is only important if we keep on winning our games upto then
come on you reds !!!!!!!!!!!

TBH, i think their super sub Dennis Bergkamp (who's the only one gooner i dont dislike) is the one i am concerned. Not that i want him to be injured, but he's always posed a threat IMO.

i agree that if Herny is injured/tired, Arse is not the same! But Bergkamp's presence is always dangerous and worrying!!
