Can we be CL winners again?

I am sure we can as we were unbeaten in last seasons CL apart from the away goal ruling that ended our run and unbeaten in the CL proper this season thats quite a lot of games against some top clubs imo we are a CL performing club :D

Too early to say.

Real Madrid look good as do Barca and AC Milan.
I don't want to look too far ahead. Get through this phase and then see what the draw brings.

I've said it before and I'll say it again - watch out for Valencia.

(Now you've all ignored me before and you'll ignore me again :D )

No team is unstopable. Look Athens even managed to get a draw.

Yes, United can go all the way in winning the CL!

Looks like a very open competition. Many sides looks very good in Europe so far.

Ofcource, who knows what happens between now and the crunch time in March, April and May.

Agree. We are just one of the teams that can challenge for the trophy, among Real, AC Millan, Inter, Arsenal, Valencia, or even Bayern. It depends on which team has the best form and the best luck from February to May next year.

I reckon this has to be the year for an all England tie. I hope we stuff Arsenal in the semi-final of the CL and then go on to win everything in sight. Revenge for 2002.......

to that i'd add barcelona, liverpool and bayern munich. any one of those 8 teams could win it.

i'll be watching for valencia's form against Real when they meet in la liga. this valencia side look awesome, not the wet-backs we beat a few years ago.
i think there has to be steady progress until christmas and then things will be clearer.

u think milan have more of a chance than United??

btw.. i think we'll make the semis again, european football suits us, we proved it last year..and the results from this season gives a fair indication that we;ll be quite successful this season.

He seems to have forgotten 1999, the year after they won the double. ;)

We did, didn't you? Surely you must have since you'd just won the double?

Yes,we had a pretty good team back then, though not as good (great?) as the one now.

Only making the point that 1999 was really the 'high water mark' for you lot....I don't think you have been as good since and probably you are poorer now than for quite some years. So,unlike 1999,when,being honest, you were an exceptional team, the current squad has little chance of equalling their exploits.Leaving Arsenal aside, even you must admit that the 1999 side was the best since 1967/68 (better even than 1995) and that the current team is just not as good?

I don't think Liverpool nor Bayern has a chance in hell of winning it

I think the team is as good, the squad isn't though, and we'll have to see if we can get the same morale/spirit that we had in '99, but just making the point not to count your chickens before they hatch, you've had a false dawn before.

Not counting chickens......I'm not saying we'll win the CL,just that I don't see you lot doing it this season.

Though, strangely maybe, coming from an Arsenal fan, your 1967/68 team were a fantastic side.I'm old enough to have seen Charlton,Law and Best at their best and they were great players.
In fact, over the years I have seen many great players and always believed that George Best was the most talented (though ,possibly , now to be overtaken by Thierry Henry)

;)

This is the best Arsenal side I've seen, but there's a fair few sides in the CL that could knock them out, and that includes us. For a start, you never know if you're going to lose key players to injuries (Pires or Beckham), or to suspension (Keano or Henry). Every team has a rocky patch each season, it would be naive of you to think that you won't - you just have to hope its not too serious, and that you don't draw many matches either. You might find that a run in the knockout stages affects adversely your premiership form too.

In terms of our prospects, unless we get another striker in January, we would struggle with an injury to Ruud - though we did excellently against Olympiakos without him. But our defence is much meaner than last season, and with a fully fit side, I think a game between us would result in a draw or maybe a win for ourselves - and the season may well come down to the games between us.

Fair points.....I agree with you on the problems posed by injuries/suspensions.Frankly,if we were to lose Henry/Vieira for any length of time you could probably kiss our chances in the CL (and possibly the PL) goodbye.

Games between us are often very close to call, though, oddly,we've seen some strange affairs recently (like our 6-1 pasting at OT and your bizarre performance at Highbury last season).Actually, our games with the Scousers have recently been very tight affairs (primarily because they are so defensive whereas you lot at least do play an attacking game )

As for strikers,I agree you have few options when Nistelrooy is injured.....was it premature to offload Cole and Yorke so quickly ?)

Yorke didn't have enough desire, while Cole had too much desire - not a lot we could do about it. Giggs and Scholes and Forlan are now our creative forwards, with Ole and Ruud the out and out strikers, so would should have enough until christmas, especially since our midfield scores so many. Would still think that we'd get a 4th striker during January, though not sure at the moment what type or who.

the 58 team is our greatest....

the busby babes. :)

i'd have to say we've got a good chance, come on the Greeks held Real to a 3-3 draw??? anything can happen in European Football.. anything

They have a very easy group though.

They have never beaten United before and I don't think they will start now. Plus, they lack a top quality striker, someone who puts the ball in the net regularly. Having said all that, Aimar is looking outstanding....
