Can anyone recall a tie with 5 truly absurd goals against?

Literally every single one has required some form of utter freak comical shitness from us or a huge slice of luck (or with the Malacia OG... both).

It's unbelievable really... I don't think I've ever seen anything like it.

I mean we've been total shit and deserve nothing... But Sevilla have some absolute crazy voodoo shit in their corner.

That’s what happens when you have a goalkeeper who has been in a constant in a complete failure of a team for over ten years.

We have only ourselves to blame for self sabotaging. All thanks to the 2 clowns De Gea and Maguire.
I hope we don't see them for the rest of season and future.
Gonna be a bad week. Getting thrown out of europa league and fa cup consecutively. I just can't see how we can beat an impressive Brighton team with De Gea and Maguire on our side.

It is quite incredible.

But then again, I don't think you can talk about voodoo or luck when we have a hand in the vast majority of them, if not all of them with ridiculous individual errors. At some point 1 might be bad luck, 2 is strange, 3, 4 and 5 might just be an indication that there is something seriously wrong with the decision making and abilities of some of our players in the defensive third.

Pretty much. At fault, to some extent, for every goal.

Some folk won’t want to hear it, mind you.

Didn't DDG have a similar nightmare for Spain a few years ago?

I would argue none of this happens if Malacia just whacks the ball into the stand.

Proper sliding doors shit

His time has come to an end I hope but he’s been our best player for a lot of those 10 years.

When expertise could the coaching staff possible give them...absolute dog shit defending for all 5 goals.

Come on, man. The actual goals themselves were a bit shite but look how abysmal we’ve been all game. Sometimes we just have to accept facts

I’d be pretty confident in saying if we had a more all round keeper during that time we’d have been better off. We’ve never had a solid defensive unit and he’s the reason.

Same as what De Gea should have done instead of trying some weird shitty way of controlling the ball and lose it. Sometime you just need to do the basics right and stay focused. Something that is missing in some of our players.

Absurd goals but well deserved. This was another 7-0 against a team that aren’t 13th in their respected league

Literally says in the OP we deserve nothing... But the point still stands that I don't think you'll ever see 5 weirder /luckier/more self destructive goals in one tie.

When we’re bad we are truly diabolically bad. De Gea and Maguire potentially finished as United players tonight

This kind of thing is possible when you push a squad past its limit like we've had to, you hit breaking point and bad things happen.

That said the utterly shambolic manner of how we've thrown it away is one of the ages.

You can make that argument for the first leg. That was a scabby, undeserved result. Tonight we were pure shambles and didn't get close to the levels - we were deservedly knocked out.

Well that is a form of luck isn't it? There were 3 absolutely freak mistakes that you'd only get once per season... And all 3 happened in one tie

Sadly, I wouldn't say any of the mistakes either Maguire or DDG made throughout were surprises. Sevilla just forced bad footballers into making decisions they expected to profit from, and they did.

It’s a mental fragility issue - no coincidence we conceded 7 goals to Liverpool in a similar way.

DDG has literally never made a mistake like the third goal before.

And for all Maguire's faults I don't think he's done something like the first before either.

Yeah just chucked it away from the minute Malacia gift-wrapped that goal for City reject

With a shaky Maguire De Gea Lindelof these goals have a much increased odds of happening.

The dirty tricks Sevilla did at OT helped them back in the game big time. 2-0 down, they start getting our players injured like Varane, Case, we concede with Varane off. Down to ten men, perhaps Martinez was fouled earlier, anyway he goes off and Maguire heads one in. The return., Harry and De Gea combine to score for them after 8 mins in.

In the second game Sabizter is launched into a seating area in the first few minutes, no card.

Wasn't there a really ridiculously comical goal we conceded in the CL couple years ago against a Turkish team that eventually doomed us?

Repeat that 5 times and that was basically the entire tie... we properly shot ourselves in the foot... after being 2-0 up.

People are saying it’s unbelievable but it’s happened before with this lot. We have players who struggle under pressure - both of the opponents tactics and the stage. So it’s a common theme of them crumbling when faced with that and people have to realise that when Maguire, Lindelof and De Gea do that, then it permeates to the rest of the team bringing them down and elevates the opponents who smell blood.

I don’t see it changing unless we have both change personnel and also spend more time on the training ground / having some major performances se that make our team mentally
