Gaming Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (PC, PS4, Xbox One)

How the feck does that work? Mouse and Keyboard would absolutely destroy console controllers unless there is heavy assistance happening. Mouse is completely free axis whereas analog sticks have limited movement speeds.

Calm down Pexbo.

It’s the same as fortnite. It works based on your input chosen so if you party up with PC player and he’s controller then you’d face controller players. If your PC friend uses keyboard and mouse then yeah you’d be matched with other players that use those, so I suggest making new friends. You actually see icons of what accessories people use in the lobby. You can’t change your device mid game by trying to trick the system by going keyboard and mouse after choosing controller.

Also keyboard and mouse exists on Xbox and PS4.

Seems like a pretty easy thing to spoof with a bit of interface trickery, no?

Right, thank you. Also m, that was me when I’m calm, you don’t want to see me when I’m angry.

That would be easy to spoof, yes. Very difficult to spoof in such a way that it’s not obvious that it’s been spoofed.

I’ve had it a day and haven't been able to play it online yet. Yesterday it took 3 hours to do updates so I lost my window to play. This morning, another hour long update so unlikely I’ll play before the rugby. Urgh.

I had a few hours in MP last night. Map rotation seems a bit crap, there was one point where I played 6 or 7 consecutive rounds on Piccadilly.

Other than that I think it’s brill. Getting up to speed a bit more now.

Not played the campaign yet (I’m sure it will be great) but very disappointed in co-op. Being forced into a public lobby to do the spec ops missions is not what I wanted at all.

Game was delivered yesterday just before I went to work. Came home and started it up. Game wanted to install an update. Left it overnight as it said 3 hours to download. Came down this morning to play it but the PS4 turned off mid update due to the power settings. So now won't be able to play it today as rugby is on soon, then I have to go to work. Probably be Tuesday before I get to play it properly. Damn these updates.

Find this very different to the previous games in the franchise. Especially the last few. A lot slower, but maps that are a lot bigger. Time to kill is very fast, to the point where it feels like you're playing hardcore. Seems a little campy so far, too. Don't know if that's down to the fact that i haven't got used to the maps yet, or it's just what happens when you slow the game down.

The maps are...fine. Some i really don't like. There's one with a massive bridge in the middle and it is awful. Easily one of the worst maps I've played in the franchise. I like the Hackney one. There's one or two others, but i don't know their names.

Bit lukewarm on the whole thing at the moment.

It still doesn’t feel like a call of duty to me. I used to be really good at cod games in MP I won’t blame the game but maybe my reflexes can’t keep up with the young ones nowadays.

Every match is laggy too for me.

You're an old feck now. Just make peace with it and pay some Chinese dude to play your account instead.

I'm struggling to figure what the general opinion of this game is in it's current state. Most seem to hate it, but it does have some people who love it.

The big problem for me right now is how the games play out. 6v6? Around 4 on each side just sit and wait, aiming at the only entrance. It's a campers paradise and if you want to play aggressive, you just get mowed down.
If nothing changes, we'll soon have a game were the timer will run out at 0-0 kills on each side as everybody is just waiting at their own spawn positions.

Also, read this on reddit and it did make me chuckle.

That’s true. Executions are near impossible without dead silence. Walking up behind an enemy with my massive ass elephant feet, and my character shouting “CONTACT!” in his fecking ear.

I love it so far. So do my friends. I didn’t like COD after MW2 and this seems to have gone back to the speed and spirit of the first two MW’s which IMO is a very good thing.

It’s not perfect but plays really well. And I don’t think it’s a campers paradise any more than the first two.

Was shit hot on the beta but couldn’t hit a barn door on live!

First CoD in years and will take sometime to get the feel after playing lots of Destiny 2 and Overwatch but it’s a good game.

I like parts of it but I'd agree with the fact that it's a campers paradise. It caters to very slow gameplay. There are so many places to get shot from. Visibility isn't great apart from the massive name tag that pops up halfway across the map. The footsteps are loud as feck. The game just promotes setting up in a head glitch for the duration of play. People that like more realism to COD will prefer it over people who like arcade shooters.

I think it does matey, the old ones. The good ones.

I know what you mean about not being very good now though.

I sent years without playing online FPS’s and dove back in when they released COD MW remastered. Crikey. It made me feel very old and very slow and although I’d been telling my son how awesome I used to be at it he whipped my a$$.

I spent weeks practicing so I could regain paternal superiority

I haven’t played a fps in years but thought about buying this so started playing Black Ops a few weeks ago to see if I still thought the genre was fun. I do, but my God I suck all of a sudden. I used to be pretty good but that was years ago and now I just get killed again and again, and often even when I spot the enemy first and aim and shoot at him I miss and he then turns and kills me in an instant with what seems like super nerd reaction time. I can’t figure out if it’s just because they’re all a bunch of cheats, that I’m out of practise or if it’s because my reflexes have aged bigly.

I’m a rather sore loser so not sure if my temper can handle being slaughtered constantly in MW.

Now I’ve learnt the routes to take I’m doing better but to me the fun factor is still missing. I’m trying my hardest to persevere with it but It’s just too slow paced and campy.

It’s a young mans game. The reflexes just aren’t there anymore. I’m still pretty decent mind. Got up to level 38 so far, so doing pretty good as I only played 4-5 games yesterday at most.

Thought the single player was pretty amazing. IW certainly know how to throw together a set piece.

Loved all the night vision missions especially the house call one.

Barely played any multiplayer but got hammered when I did. Only just unlocked the m4

The M4 is probably the best overall gun I've used so far in MP. Little point using anything else.

Started playing that Cyber Attack game mode and really like it. Change of pace from the normal TDM and Dom, etc. Very enjoyable so far

Reflexes will come back mate, I found that too but i reckon the way people play is just faster than it used to be. I had to change my style up a bit.

This game also encourages camping, given that each map has about 90 windows, doors and paths in any given place. Running and gunning is not as feasible as it was in previous games.

It definitely feels like they’ve purposefully tried to slow it down. I don’t think this is necessarily a bad thing. I guess time will tell just how much it’s affected the game, we’ll see as people get more familiar with the maps, I know I’m starting to get better now.

Problem is, they've slowed it down to the point were camping is the meta.
Gunfire doesn't show up on the minimap, so you can't even tell were campers are.

Even ground war is broken. I've just watched Diego get a 123 kill game and the process was:

Get in tank, earn all kill streaks. Use said kill streaks to all earn kill streaks again.
Blow self up
Use kill streaks, get all kill streaks
Blow self up
etc
etc

I do think it’s bad to slow it down, it’s a rarity if one person in the whole lobby gets more than 18 kills. The thing that always made COD games great was the fact it was fast paced, gung ho, Arcade type action. Like Zarlak says this game is just a camping simulator and most of the maps are too large. You can literally run around for awhile and not see an enemy.

anyway I’m doing single player now and it’s great.

After playing this for most of the day I'm doing pretty well now and enjoying it. The one thing is that footsteps are too loud and it's really fecking annoying that both teams can hear when your character shouts. You try to sneak up on someone and your character bellows ENEMY SPOTTED when you're behind them.

There is 2xp on right now btw for like 5 hours.

Good shout. Managed to sneak in an hr and a half last night and got up to level 12 pretty quickly.

I share the criticisms of the maps being too large and footsteps/call outs being far too noisy but apart from that I'm still enjoying it.

That said, of the maps I played last night (alternating between standard TDM & 10 v 10) I enjoyed Grazna and St Petrograd the most, although that might be because they were the only ones I had a modicum of success on.

I don't agree it specifically promotes camping as such, I think it reverts back to the good old days of the original COD's (1, 2, MW and MW2) and promotes careful and more tactical play. I now know where most of the windows and danger spots are and I play accordingly. It feels a more adult game and better for it.

I'm not camping, I'm still moving around and if someone is camping and gets you then it's up to you to find a way of getting them. I like it a lot matey.

Does anyone think the loading screen that shows a large desert landscape hints at a possible battle royale mode? If so, this would become almost the perfect shooter IMO.

Graphics and sound are amazing by the way and I love the RPG-lite elements of customising your loadouts.

True. I remember the original game had some huge maps and people remember those with rose tinted glasses. I used to love Overgrown and have never really played as a sniper.

It looks like it does need a couple of smaller maps though tbf. The first couple had a perfect blend of large and small maps that forced you to change up your style/loadout. If you were on Vacant/Shipment for example it made more sense to run with an SMG/Shotgun than an Assault rifle/Sniper. It made for more varied gameplay imo.

Overgrown! One of my favourites. I’m almost never a sniper either, I get bored with anything other than assault rifles.

I agree with all of your post and they have confirmed more maps will follow so I’m sure there’ll be some to suit everyone.

I just really like what they’ve done with the new game. Less arcadey and more simulation. COD had lost its way a bit and I think this puts it very firmly on its own path.

What did everyone do
with 'The Butcher' btw? I shot him personally.

Assuming it makes no difference to the story.
