Caf List Of Great Albums

Well the same can be said for hip hop and it's attitude towards crime, drugs (Many punk bands lead straight edge lifestyles) the police...

It's easy to isolate parts of every genre but looking at the genre of punk in general you see many left wing band with anti-war messages and also many straight edge acts who promote not using drugs or drinking

That's perfectly correct, but most of those punks i know, and i have many as friends, they aren't punks because they are left wing or against war or capitalism, they are punks, because they dont care about anything, drink, and let themselves down, and those sorts of punks i dont give ANY respect.

There are nutjobs in all sorts of genres.

Incidentally have you heard of straight-edge punk? Its a relatively small but important punk ideology originating from Ian Mackaye of Minor Threat which advocates abstaining from drugs, tobacco, alcohol and promiscious sex.

It went all gay though around 90s with elitist and militant bands wrecking havoc if people did not adhere to their ideologies. Fortunately Straight Edge is becoming a more positive subculture free from hedonism in sex, drugs and rock&roll.

There's no outstanding musical band in the genre; barring maybe Fugazi.

The first Del Amitri album (Del Amitri, 1985) is my one desert island record.
I wonder if anyone knows them.

in no particular order:

Radiohead - OK Computer
Jeff Buckley - Grace
U2 - Achtung Baby
The Arcade Fire - Funeral
Aimee Mann - The Forgotten Arm
Dave Matthews - Live at Luthor College
Ani Difranco - Evolve

I do like these music threads, here goes in no particular order except Radiohead at the top:-

Radiohead - Every single one of em, but would be hard not to put OK Computer at the top.

The Doors - The Doors, LA Women, Absolutely Live (not technically an album but....)

Chemical Brothers - Exit Planet Dust, Dig Your Own Hole.

Orbital - Any of them particularly Middle of Knowhere.

Metallica - Black Album and Justice for me.

Beatles - Pepper, Revolver and White Album.

Pink Floyd - Wish you Were Here, Dark Side.

Blur - Parklife and Think Tank.

Leftfield - Leftism (possibly the greatest dance album ever created)

Nirvana - Nevermind.

Oasis - Definitily Maybe.

Stone Roses - Stone Roses

A lot of obvious ones in there, but some other classics too that a lot of people will not have heard, I highly recommend Leftism by Leftfield, this is an album that is genre crossing in regards to the fact people from all music tastes enjoy it if given the chance. It is an album that is over thirteen years old and still sounds relevant now. Great spliff album.

Metallica - Master Of Puppets (Thrash/Heavy Metal)
Queen - A Night At The Opera (Classic Rock)
Led Zeppelin - LZIV (Hard Rock)
Pink Floyd - Dark Side Of The Moon (Psychedelic Rock )
Pearl Jam - Ten (Grunge)
Black Sabbath - Paranoid (Metal)
Iron Maiden - Iron Maiden (Heavy Metal)

Punk died in the late 70's

There are still some good underground bands around, but the spirit it used to have is'nt quite there anymore. I missed all that though, i got into Punk music at the start of the 21st century.

How could I forget Underworld, one of my favorite bands, I'm actually going to see them in November at the Manc Apollo. If you haven't heard it, Everything Everything (live collection of tunes) is fecking great, one of the best live albums I have heard, there's a DVD version too.

On Leftism, it is one of those albums that you can go months/years without hearing it, and it will still get pulled out and still sound as great as it always has. Definitily in my top 5 all time great albums.

Yeah, have both the CD and DVD, in fact I have most of the stuff they've done post Dub.
Their new album is ready if you didn't know.. should be out this year, check out Crocodile single if you haven't heard it yet

Thanks for the heads up I didn't know that anything was out yet. I shall go hunting.

That is by far and away their worst album.

Its there most consistent rather.

Whereas many of their albums has spasmodic quality hits amongst other dire tracks, the larger percentage of Stadium Arcadium are hits.

Interesting to see OK Computer in peoples list...

A very good album id say, and I like Radiohead, but I always thought OK Computer was a bit over-rated. Some top songs on it (Karma Police, No Suprises, Electioneering, Lucky, Let Down) but has a lot of what sound to me like slightly dreary fillers.
