Bundesliga 2017/18

Could use a fully fit and in-form Marco Reus...

Could have used our best defender in terms of passing and build up play who had to be subbed off early, could have used not having our captain being assisinated on the pitch forcing our second sub after 30 minutes. Could have used a ref understanding the advantage rule when we actually did score or that a elbow hit to the face that sends a player bleeding to the ground is a foul and in consquence a penalty.

On a good day we win even against these odds. Freiburg defended well and offered us nothing, we were unable to force enough chances.

That must have been 2 balls on the pitch? But respect to Kramaric for thinking faster than our defense.

Ancelotti seems to succeed at making the Bundesliga great again.

I really wonder how often we have to endure Ancelotti's awful version of a 433 with Thiago as the advanced midfielder before he realises that it really doesn't work.

Müller is fine. It's Ancelotti who has no clue what to do with him. Benching him when he's in full flow and then puts him back in on the wing of his fecking poverty 4-3-3. I love the guy but he's playing with my patience.

Ancelotti loves the word balance, he's generally played with 3 midfielders.

Well we're balanced all right in that we're both completely toothless up front and ridiculously vulnerable at the back

Let's wait for the first CL matches... how about we win the CL with him and then sack him anyways for fecking up the league? Real style.

I do not see a working concept for that. The players are capable of it - that is not the problem. But I do not see the team having the qualities for the system he seems to want or it does not emphasize the strengths of the team. And things of the old system like the positioning and even the passing quality seem to be washed away. They do not even seem to be trained. You do not just win on individual qualities today - they are the extra. It does not even seem to work against smaller teams if they have good teamwork and good tactics. There is not even a good plan b - 2 years ago Real was playing poorly but they had their power at set-pieces. This team is not great letting another team have the ball and going on counter attacks. But too really have a great possession system you need to have the positioning and that helps with pressing resistance and passing, makes it faster and with this the build up is fast enough to get the offensives in a better positioning. Right now the players have too hold the ball too much or move too much with the ball to get somebody to pass to. That makes midfield too vulnerable.

I think atleast the ones that are interested in quality and tactics and not just results miss Pep or a similar coach. It is not just the system alone. But even if it works for 15 minutes the other coach makes a tactical change and after it it does not work anymore... but then it atleast takes until minute 70 before a change is made and usually just position for position. Oh, the teams of the 80s,90s or even 2000 weren't playing the great football. But then we were used to it and it was only important to win. But after the last years we know how it could be...

Don't say that too much, there are a lot of people overhere who thinks they play exactly the same way, no difference at all, total failure to reach 3 semifinals the bald cnut.

So Ancelotti is doing much worse than Pep then? Can't say I'm surprised given Pep is a better manager.

We appear to have regressed another step from last season's average, which was already a step down from the previous seasons' average (average because our peak performance against Real in the CL quarters last season was still great, while many of the remaining matches were unconvincing).
The ironically funny thing is that especially our defensive work seems to have suffered the most under going from Pep to Carlo, when people were always spouting shit about Pep's perceived inability to play defensively. We have lost the suffocating grip on opposition sides, which was the art of defending with the whole squad all over the pitch.

Hoffenheim's first goal shouldn't have stood isn't it? There were 2 balls on the field, or is it fine as the other ball was one on the other end was not interfering with play?

If the second ball isn't interfering with the play, it's a regular goal.

Haven't heard an official comment on that yet. Seems to be in a grey zone. You can argue that the ball, being on the other side of the pitch, sid not interfere with play, but you could also argue that our players were under the impression that the ball was still in play, and thus it did interfere. However, I do like a sneaky goal based on quick thinking, even if it was scored against us, so I'm not complaining that it stood.

If sleeping Hummels thought the ball was still in play, after he kicked it 2 meters outside of the pitch, he should be shot.

Fair point. ;)
The thing is, Hummels obviously tried to delay the play by playing the ball back onto the pitch even though he knew it was far out already. It's actually great for the game that such an attempt to delay the play and gain an advantage isn't rewarded. He should have just left the ball and focused on the throw-in. Instead he tried to be clever but looked like a fool. Sadly nowadays he's doing that in a Bayern shirt, much prefered him doing it in a Dortmund shirt :(.

Good God. . I thought I'd seen it all re Bundesliga refs. . .Seriously just put the VAR in charge.

I am of course referring to Eintracht's 1-0 victory at BM yesterday. . . Although should have been at least 2-0 considering two EF goals (both from Boateng) were disallowed. . . the second one a complete mystery. Frankfurt should also have been awarded a penalty for a handball which wasn't given yet moments earlier a similar incident saw BM receive a free kick just outside the EF box.

Best came with injury time. . SIX minutes pulled out of the refs arse from nowhere. Hilarious.

As if that wasn't enough the ref went on to play NINE minutes injury time. Was never going to matter because Borussia were never going to equalise . . . One of those days for them.

Poor Niko Kovac . . . Seeking an explanation at the end. Don't bother Niko.

Bring on the ladies (Bibi in Berlin shortly). . because the men are biased.
