Gaming Building a gaming PC

I'd go FTW3 but I might be a bit biased!

Suprim Positives:

The Suprim is supposed to run a bit quieter
Slighly higher clock out of the box

FTW3 positives:

The FTW3 is slimmer if space is an issue
Higher max wattage (450 watts compared to I think 420)

The out of the box clock speed is irrelevant if you are going to adjust them anyway. The FTW3 was supposed to be around 1800mhz, but I'm running mine on an undervolt at 2010 mhz. I've heard of people getting coil whine on the Strix by the way, but not on the Suprim or FTW3.
OK excellent info. Much obliged!

Anyone with a 3080/90 fancy logging into my geforce account and activating my geforce now.
I forgot I needed my card installed to activate it and I've already left for the week :(

Barely even make use of what I have but I've had it a few years now and I've got the serious bug to build a new PC.

My PC has decided that today is the perfect day to break and I'm at my wit's end trying to fix it. It starts up and gets stuck on the splash screen, with no way out - BIOS can't be accessed. I've tried restarting, hard rebooting, checking the RAM, resetting the CMOS battery, removing all the USB cables from the back, checking the various cables inside are connected properly... no joy. I hope the motherboard isn't gone - was working perfectly fine yesterday.

I ordered components for a new PC! I've been saying I've been thinking about it on here for months and seeing people enjoy Cyberpunk on PC has pushed me over the edge. Managed to bag a RTX 3070 and a Ryzen 5 5600X. Unfortunately only the GPU, power supply and monitor have arrived because Scan are too busy (god knows how they managed to find time to send 1 item and not my other order) which is kind of like torture, seeing half of the built sit there uselessly. I'm so excited to put it together.

Have PCI express connections ever changed? I might stick the rtx 3070 into my ancient build while I'm waiting, but I'm not sure if all PCIe connections are compatible. It would be comically bottle-necked but at least it's more use than sitting in its box taunting me.

Isn't splash screen typically after the BIOS? What mobo do you have? Could it be worth making a bootable USB stick (can definitely do this with Ubuntu pretty easy), uplug your HDD and try to boot to the USB stick and see if that work. If it boots then Windows is your problem, if it doesn't then like you say could well be hardware.

Just got shipment confirmation of the MSI RTX3080 Gaming X Trio that I ordered on release day. :D
Congrats! How is it that badly delayed? Its about the only bit of my build that arrived on time ironically.

PCIe3 should be fine.. just make sure you have a decent enough power supply in the old PC.. or use your new one

That is a good point, not sure the old 520w will be enough and I can't be bothered to change all the wiring, guess I'll just have to try and be patient.

5600x + 6800 makes the most sense to me.

A cheaper alternative would be 3060 and a more expensive alternative would be 6800xt

Been messing around the last two days preparing my PC ready for the big day.
I've turned the pc case around and built on the back

I'm pretty much ready, apart from Cablemod sent me a faulty cable and my cable management needs sorting.
Other than that, this is a rough idea of what it will look like before I watercool it

No idea why the picture is so bad

Nice.

Like the current trend office attire too.

What’s the deal with the 3070? They’re like rocking horse shit. Has there been any indication of stock being released any time soon?

Doesn't look like things will improve anytime soon.

You basically need to join a discord channel which gives you stock alerts, even then you have to be on the button. That's how I got mine.

I've been playing on PC a fair amount recently after getting Cyberpunk, trying Gamepass atm seeing as it's a quid and Gears 5 has been great fun! It's a good challenge getting used to keyboard and mouse though my left hand doesn't know what it's doing sometimes.

Now I guess I'll join the long arse queue trying to get hold of a 3070.

I really hope you have no problems with it my friend.

As if they do come, you are in for a world of hurt!

Ah I've just caught up with the conversation in the xbox thread and see what you're getting at mate. I'm just looking to use Gamepass to try out things I've never played before [like gears 5], if I feel like adding something permanently to the library I'll probably do so on Steam as that's my primary collection :)

That's an entirely different discussion mate. The problems on the PC gamepass run waaaaaaaaaaay deeper

Just keep an eye on your SSD/HDD usage when installing games, and if (when) you ever get the dreaded duplicate-install (or even worse, the continued repeated failure) then hit me up as trust me, I've been through it all!

ahhhh shit :nervous: I did notice Alien: Isolation kept crashing the whole PC anytime I tried running the game so just deleted from the library and didn't bother with it. Haven't tried installing anything outside of that and gears 5 so far, thanks for the heads up!

Not to scare you, but I've had to reinstall windows on a fresh wipe on two separate systems just to get rid failed downloads!

The store/Xbox App/Windows 10 are notorious for being insanely bad at communicating yet needing each other and then locking you out of your own files. The best advice I can give is to just leave your PC alone entirely when trying to download a game through the store. It's not always going to be an issue, for example I've been running SoT and Minecraft Dungeons for weeks with no issues, but when they do happen...oh boy!

I had a lovely one where it removed 60 hours of play in FM2020 on a Windows reinstall (caused by Game Pass eating my disk space in the first place with no option to get it back). It started the game, synced with the cloud saves and obviously thought synching from the blank local save folder back into the cloud and therefore deleting everything was a good thing to do....

This has concerned me somewhat as I was going to do the same and take out a couple years of GamePass in the next few days - would buying a new HDD solely for GamePass games be a good idea? That way if anything does go wrong it's just one drive affected? I don't know if I'm just over simplifying with that?

I've had a few issues with gamespass but not a huge deal.

I deleted forza but the 100gb file still remained without me knowing for months
I just used treesize to remove it.
The only other issues I've had is cross playing with friends, sometimes the mic can be an absolute nightmare to get going

I inform you about validating your order to the UK.

Due to new restrictions we have been forced to cancel your order. Of course, no payment was taken. This is because the new regulations require a shipment that is now considered to be outside the European Union. In addition, the method of payment by PayPal is no longer available to your destination on our website.

Adjustments are being made to allow you to recommend your destination as quickly as possible. For the moment, shipments are no longer possible to this destination. We sincerely regret this unintentional situation.

I thank you for your understanding and wish you a good day.

Best regards,

Brexit fecking me out of a Suprim 3080.

Also basically means buying from Europe is not at their discretion. So annoying given the order was placed almost 6 weeks ago.

Think the thermal paste on my 2080 is on its last legs, any game now ramps it to ~85C which causes the fans to hit 100% for about 5 seconds, before cycling back down for about 10 seconds, then back up again, rinse and repeat. Extremely annoying. I've seen some videos online of how to fix it but it means buying new thermal pads and removing about 40 screws as the founders edition is a pain in the ass. It's still under warranty so shot a message to Nvidia, hope they just replace it.

When would we assume the GPU market will stabalize again?getting tired of being quoted scalper prices.

It'll be quite a while I think. The production just isn't there in enough numbers.

Have you thought about getting an FE when they are available as that's the most obvious way of paying MSRP at the moment? You still have to be quick to buy, but they tend to last 10 minutes before selling out when they go up for sale.

Kind of related to this thread, but has anyone setup a mesh network? The missus is giving me all kinds of grief about my extremely aged setup and am tempted.

Bit like gfx cards, seems like there's been a run on em. Big ones sold out on Amazon.

Started my build last night. BIOS flashed, CPU, RAM and cooler in the mobo and in the case, just the cables and GPU to go before Windows time, but I'm stuck at work and can't think of anything but getting home to finish my build.

I managed to snag one on Christmas eve. Join some tracker discords, but I got mine through constantly refreshing Scan and CCL. I managed to get one through CCL just for my bank to block the transaction on checkout, but managed to get another on Scan the next day. Ironically it arrived way before the rest of my build did.

I have the TP LINK M4s and they work great for just extending WiFi around the house and really easy to setup . I didn't know there is a shortage of them though I bought mine at the end of last summer, so still in lockdown.

Thanks, found the Linksys ones were availableand have pretty solid reviews, so going to give it a try. Will be fascinating to see if it improves my incredible frankenstein curretn setup, with about 12 years worth of old routers setup as APs around the house :)

Finally finished my build yesterday! months of waiting for cards, good deals on other OOS components and then the full on stress of my first build for a looooong time and only my third overall - Gotta say I feel chuffed! I did have a minor panic when I pressed the power for the first time and nothing happened, then I realised I hadn't flipped the switch on the PSU, only on the Power socket

Anyway, this is the build -

BeQuiet Pure Base 500DX case white
MSI B550 Gaming Edge Wifi Motherboard
AMD Ryzen 7 3700x Processor w/Wraith Prysm (Couldn't get a 5600x in the end and I am gonna do productivity too).
32GB Hyper X Fury 3600 RAM
Gigabyte 3060Ti Gaming OC GPU
Crucial P1 1Tb NVME
Crucial MX500 500gb SSD and Adata 500gb
BeQuiet Shadow Wings 2 140mm in white - exhaust, top intake and 2x front intake
Corsair RM750x PSU White
Corsair Premium cable upgrade in blue

think I got a good mix of power and price

Here she is - Still got to sort some more cable combs and the colours for the Wraith, the Gigabyte logo and on top/front of the case - gonna go for a combo of blue and white to match the aesthetic.

I am super pumped right now.

It'll be a little bottlenecked by my i5-8400 but who cares not me nope! Now, to change my first ever GPU...

Nice build, didn't know there where 3060Ti gpus. My 2060 super is already good enough for me so your setup should definitely be a a good value in terms of the performance you're getting.
